Electric stove for a sauna: how to choose electric stoves - 220V, 380 volts, Finnish, belt, for a mini-sauna; how to install, connection, rating

With the modern pace of life, there is not always time to rest your soul and body. But when it does appear, many prefer to spend it in front of the TV on their favorite sofa. But there is an activity that truly brings bliss and helps the body relax. We are talking about a real bathhouse. Some may say that it is impossible to arrange a steam room in an apartment, no matter how large it is, and they will be very mistaken. In fact, this is quite possible. You just need to choose the right electric heater for your sauna. This is what we will talk about today.

Installing an electric heater will allow you to make a sauna out of an ordinary bathroom

How is a sauna organized?

It can be given a place both in an apartment (even if it is modest in size - often a place is allocated for this on the balcony), or in a separate building . decorate a room for a sauna , or you can buy a ready-made version of the cabin (of different sizes), which is simply installed on the allotted area inside the house.

By the way, a Finnish sauna usually comes with a swimming pool or at least the opportunity to take a dip in the bath. The problem is resolved to the best of the owner's ability. However, it is worth noting that a pool has two important problems : its weight with water and the humidity it creates.

Weight will determine the load on the foundation, and humidity will determine measures to protect against it (waterproofing and ventilation of the room).

The regime that a real Finnish sauna involves is not without reason called “dry air”. This is a combination of fresh air quickly heated to high temperatures ( it is optimal to keep the heating around 90 degrees ) and low humidity generated by steam from an open heater.

IMPORTANT ! This definition presupposes the presence of good thermal insulation of the room, a metal stove (they provide rapid heating), again, good ventilation and well-thought-out convection flows , as well as the presence of means for controlling temperature and humidity (plus the ability to quickly manage them).

Studying the necessary conditions, you come to the conclusion that today an electric sauna stove with built-in control and mode control functions is the best option . Only a gas stove can compete with it, but gas stoves must obtain permission , while wood stoves are less controllable - they have their own laws. You can verify the validity of our opinion by reading the following article: Stoves for steam rooms: wood, gas, electricity.

However, it’s worth making a short excursion right here, in which we will describe the structure of stoves operating on different types of fuel.

How to use an electric heater?

Electric heater, how to use it:

  • The air in the steam room cannot be heated above 100 degrees Celsius. Such hot air will not only dry out the respiratory tract and skin, but will also contribute to the beginning of the process of wood pyrolysis (gases harmful to humans will begin to be released into the air).
  • You cannot add essential oils to the water that will be applied to hot stones. For these purposes, special formulations are used in which the oil does not burn out, but evaporates. To saturate the steam with healing aromas, simply place a bowl of hot water in the corner of the steam room and drop essential oils into it.
  • It is not allowed to dry fabric items over the heater (even if the device is turned off). This may cause a fire.
  • The stones must be sorted out once a year, washed, and rubble and damaged stones removed. However, remember - special stones are used for electric heaters, which were mined in special deposits and were tested at high temperatures. If other stones are used, the efficiency of the stove may decrease dramatically. In addition, it may not be harmless to health.

What types of ovens are there?

What do different types of devices have in common? The function of receiving heat and transferring it to the surrounding space. Heat is obtained from fuel, which can be:

  • firewood;
  • gas;
  • electricity.

Coal is not recommended for use in sauna stoves , but pellets can be used.

In the first two cases, we need a combustion chamber for fuel , where either firewood or a gas burner is placed. In the latter case, a chamber is not needed, because a nichrome thread placed either in a curved tube (heating element) or in another shell (tape heater) is heated.

Accordingly, in the design of an electric sauna stove there is no need to separate the heater and fuel compartment - they represent one bowl with heating elements, where the empty space is filled with stones.

Wood-burning and gas stoves may otherwise be identical - there are companies that produce the same model with variations for gas and wood.

In addition to the fuel compartment, each sauna stove has a compartment for stones - open or closed, separated from the fire or allowing the flame to wash over the stones. Open heaters are good for better convection - heat redistribution between the stove and the room. Closed ones are a feature of the Russian bathhouse, where the stones are heated to temperatures that overheat the steam and make it light and finely dispersed.

Another important point is the material from which the stove is made. It can be brick (including cast iron) or metal . The first one takes a long time to heat up, takes a long time to cool down, and is used either as a material for the furnace itself or for the casing.

IMPORTANT! The main advantage of the brick is that it shields the bathhouse from hard infrared radiation , which can burn human skin even without contact with a heated object.

A brick stove takes a long time to heat up, produces a lower temperature, but maintains it significantly longer than a metal stove.

A metal stove heats up quickly, gives off heat quickly, cools down quickly . To correct the heat transfer process, it is often surrounded by a brick or stone casing. Sauna stoves are made from metal using different types of fuel: electric, gas and wood. Manufacturers often create an additional convection casing made of metal - air circulates freely in the empty space, preventing the surface from overheating, but maintaining strong convection.

According to their intended purpose, metal stoves are best suited for Finnish saunas. We have an article that talks in detail about what is good and what is bad for a Russian bath: “The best stoves for a Russian bath.”

Now that you have an idea of the similarities and differences between sauna stoves, it is worth evaluating the advantages that electric sauna stoves provide.

Criteria for choosing an electric heater

The power of the device must strictly correspond to the volume of the steam room (1 m3 of room is perfectly heated by 1 kW of power consumption). If there is a window in the steam room, even a well-insulated one, then the heater should be a little more powerful (1.2 kW of power per 1 m3).

Those heaters with a power exceeding 3 kW can only be connected via a 380V network. First make sure that you have the ability to provide this power supply.

Be sure to follow the recommendations for loading stones. The heating elements must not protrude beyond the upper boundary of the stone layer.

Heaters are designed for a strictly defined volume of water. This should be clarified with the seller. Choose the best mode specifically for your steam room.

Pros and cons of electric stoves for baths and saunas

The fact that the electric furnace is made of metal is the first advantage of this type. Other advantages arise from the fact that electricity is converted directly into thermal energy. Just compare it with firewood, which is full of problems and debris, not to mention the fact that the wood-burning stove itself cannot be mobile - it is tied to the chimney.

Yes, electric stoves for steam saunas are mobile ; they only need a sheet of non-flammable material underneath floor-standing models, or they don’t need anything at all if the model is suspended.

IMPORTANT! No chimneys, no debris, and with proper grounding, fire safety is higher than that of gas furnaces.

The numerous advantages of electric stoves can be completely offset by the fact that electricity is an expensive resource . Therefore, those who prefer inexpensive solutions should pay attention to other options. But there are also trade-offs. After all, the power of a stove that can be installed in an apartment is quite comparable to the power of an electric kettle and less than the power of some steam irons. But the sauna, which such a stove will heat, will be designed for no more than two people.

The second disadvantage is the slight difficulty with wiring. It’s better to invite an electrician who will install three phases if you took a 380-volt oven, and will determine the suitability of the existing wiring and do the grounding. But there are stoves with 220 volts, and this is the usual voltage in a household network.

If we talk about whether an electric heater is good for a sauna in a Russian bath, then a lot depends on the traditional ideas of its owner. Take a look at our articles about the Russian bath (see links above) - they talk a lot about why a metal stove is physically unable to provide the required conditions , and an electric sauna stove is no exception to this rule.

At the same time, among people who are less scrupulous about tradition, there is a widespread opinion that electric stoves are quite suitable for a sauna and a bath at the same time, the main thing is that there is a built-in steam generator and fine-tuning of temperature and humidity , allowing you to switch from Finnish to Russian bath mode.

Video on the topic

This video talks about why most electric heaters are not suitable for a Russian bath, but adds information about the extremely few types of stoves that are quite suitable.

By the way, we still have not touched upon such an important issue as the country of production. But it is precisely by this criterion that sauna equipment is often purchased.

DIY electric fireplace

At the first stage, it is necessary to select the optimal location for the unit and consider the shape and size of the structure. It is important to follow all safety rules. When using a fireplace operating from a standard 220 Volt network, you can use a single-phase network; for structures operating from 380, you must use exclusively a three-phase network.

Making it yourself: Option 1

  1. At the floor level of the bathhouse or sauna, it is necessary to leave a small cavity;
  2. The hole must be well covered with boards;
  3. The required number of heating elements is established, which is calculated individually and depends on the size, location, type of room and the desired level of heating, as well as their independent power;
  4. Under each TEN it is necessary to make an individual hole that opens into the waiting room;
  5. Wiring, to ensure safe operation, is also routed to the dressing room;
  6. The hood is done above the floor level, approximately 30-40 centimeters;
  7. To ensure good thermal conductivity and heat distribution, the heating elements must be lined with bricks or stones on all sides. You can also install fireplace stoves with increased heat capacity.

This horizontal stove works on the following principle: The heaters heat the air that comes out through the hood. Thus, steam gradually accumulates and the air in the room heats up.

Option 2: vertical fireplace

  1. First you need to assemble the metal frame. It is very important that the selected material has a high degree of fire resistance, and all seams are well sealed and insulated;
  2. An individually selected number of heating elements must be connected to each other and evenly distributed on the inside of the metal frame;
  3. The interior of the structure must be lined with stones;
  4. The wall to which such a heater is adjacent must be well insulated;
  5. Each heating element must be connected to the network and their power adjusted;
  6. It is recommended to use bricks or sheet metal as insulating material;
  7. Also, stones and TENS can be placed not just in a metal frame, but also in any other metal object, such as a forged barrel or basket. This will give the fireplace originality and make it stand out against the general background.

An electric fireplace for a sauna has a fairly simple principle of operation, which allows you to make such a unit with your own hands and with minimal financial costs. If necessary, you can also buy a completely finished and assembled model, of a certain power and in the required design, in the catalog of our online store.

Whose stoves are better?

Despite the fact that the market is literally flooded with various models, there are not so many main players on it. In Russia you can buy stoves:

  • Finnish;
  • Swedish;
  • German;
  • Russian.

At the same time, Finnish companies predominate . But there is nothing surprising here - this is their national bathhouse. And the consumer feels more trust in a company that knows first-hand about the bathing traditions of its people.

Here is a list of the main Finnish companies that produce electric sauna heaters:

  • Helo;
  • Sawo;
  • Harvia;
  • Narvi.

We have a large article about one of these, with a description of most of the families of its extensive model range. However, do not rush to conclude that other companies are somehow worse . It’s just that more people in Russia know Harvey. And high-quality products are characteristic of all companies in this market.

The Swedes are represented by Tylo, and the Germans by EOS. Russian, "Polytech", "Teplodar", "Ermak", "TEK". Realizing that the place has already been occupied by Finns and other Europeans, the Russians are trying to give their products a certain zest that would distinguish them from competitors - tape heaters at an affordable price , for example. Therefore, those who are still searching can safely recommend viewing domestic offers .

By the way, we decided that the opinions of other readers like you could help in drawing up a real picture of the experience-based preferences of Russians. We invite you to get acquainted with the results of the survey and, if you wish, take part in it as much as possible.

Finally, let's find out the opinions of sauna owners about the stoves they purchased:

Electric heaters made in Russia

We have quite a few manufacturers, some of which are well-known brands, others are much less known by name, but people recognize the names of the stoves. And there are those whose company name is extremely difficult to find on the Internet.

By the way! In our case, we simply could not find the name of the company producing the Vesta electric heater. That is, there is a stove, but there are no certificates for it.

And now - in order, about the most popular Russian-made electric heaters .

"Termofor"

There is only one Termofor electric heater in the catalog, which is presented on their official website.

Electric heater "Thermofor" "Primavolta" - technical characteristics

This is a wall-mounted model, its own weight is 13 kg, and the open heater, with a volume of 37 liters, holds 50 kg of stone. The dimensions of the structure are not large: 41.5(L) x 39(W) x 60(H) cm. Maximum power is 9 kW, a model with this parameter is discussed in detail here. In this case, the minimum volume of the steam room is 5 cubic meters, and the maximum is 12. The temperature in the steam room varies from 30 to 120 degrees.

Duration of continuous operation – up to 6 hours. It is possible to choose between mains voltage 220V (one phase) and 380V (three phases). Aesthetically attractive, no worse than Finnish ones.

"Polytech"

I didn’t bother inventing new names for my stoves - they are all called by the same name, regardless of whether they are wood-burning or electric.

Electric heater "Christina"

As for the “Christina” electric heater, it is available in the following modifications: Classic, Classic with an evaporator, Classic with a coil lining and Compact - these are the most popular models, there are two more “Christinas” - heaters for commercial saunas and the “Exclusive” model range "from 3 stoves.

Electric heater Christina Polytech

Kristina Classic - this name hides a whole range of heaters, varying in power, size, weight, voltage and price. Here is part of the tablet, which lists all the variations:

Electric heater "Polytech" Kristina Classic^ options

"Christina" with evaporator

The electric heater “Christina” with an evaporator is equipped with a steam generator with a tank volume of 12-15 liters . It is capable of evaporating from 1.5 to 2 liters of water . This creates either dry or wet steam, depending on the temperature. The control is carried out from the remote control, and only setting the temperature in the steam room depends on you , the rest is done automatically. In addition to plain water, you can evaporate liquid with flavors and essential oils.

Variations in power

"Ural-Mikmah-Therm"

The plant with this name produces EKM electric heaters. Due to the fact that the number of stoves is large, we will only list the series and the models included in them, and will subject only the most popular ones to a separate consideration.

IMPORTANT! The numbers after the abbreviation are the power of the furnace in kilowatts!

"Teplodar"

Teplodar electric heaters are represented by three families:

  • SteamFit;
  • SteamGross;
  • SteamSib.

Electric heater "Teplodar" SteamFit

The creators of the two wall-mounted heaters in this series made sure that the built-in steam generator produces steam within a few minutes after the start of operation; more details about stoves with a steam generator in a separate article. This way you can achieve the desired level of humidity and maintain it automatically. The stoves in this series have a remote control that regulates not only humidity and temperature, but also operating time and switching time.

INTERESTING! These electric heaters promise the quality of a Russian bathhouse.

Representatives of the series differ in power: 5.34 and 8 kW, which allows heating volumes of 6-8 and 8-12 cubic meters . High-quality heating elements made in Italy.

SteamGross

This series includes three electric ovens, differing in power and heated volume of the steam room: from 8 to 26 cubic meters . Steam room stoves of various sizes are in high demand. All heaters are floor-standing, with a built-in steam generator, which has high power - up to 6 liters per hour and evaporation duration up to 6 hours in a row. This is necessary if the owner decides to take a steam bath in a Russian sauna (!about stoves for a Russian sauna here). Few manufacturers count on its performance.

The heating elements are made in Italy from an alloy alloyed with chromium, nickel, aluminum and titanium. This increases their strength and service life.

SteamSib

These are miniature stoves designed to heat steam rooms with a minimum volume: from 2 to 9 cubic meters. There are three modifications, differing in power. There is no steam generator. The heating elements are also Italian.

"Delsot"

Delsot electric heaters are marked with the same abbreviation as. This creates difficulties in distinguishing them. But in the numbers there is always a one, after which the figures for the thermal power of the furnace are given. Delsot divided its products into several series, here they are (photo from the manufacturer’s website):

The most interesting is the “Firebird” series of electric heaters. Perhaps the reason for this is the unusual and beautiful design, in which the perforation of the case is made in the form of a fairy-tale bird spreading its wings. However, see for yourself:

There are two different power stoves with the same name - 6 and 9 kW (7.2-10 and 12-15 cubic meters of volume, respectively). Both operate on a 380 V network. The dimensions of both are 330 by 950 mm. Body material – galvanized steel with thermal coating.

"Electric oven"

This company has a well-known electric heater “Karina”. In addition, you can find electric heaters “Zhar”, “Christina”, “Svetlana” on sale.

Electric heater "Karina"

On a note! The main difference between the products of this enterprise and the majority on the market is that instead of tubular ones, its furnaces have tape heaters , which are not only stronger than the first ones, but also more economical, because per kilowatt of their power there is not 1, but 1.5 cubic meters of volume steam rooms

"Karina": reviews

On the Internet, reviews of the Karina electric heater are positive; users praise the ease of installation and operation , but most of all they are attracted by the comfortable stay in the steam room, which they associate with the differences between strip and tubular electric heaters. They also consider the reasonable price of the device to be important.

Ural Furnace Equipment Plant

The company produces a variety of stoves, but among the electric ones there are only Aurora electric heaters.

Electric heater "Aurora"

There are four varieties of this stove, two of which can be hung on the wall, and two of which can be floor-mounted. Digital designations indicate the number of kilowatts of thermal power : 4, 6, 9, 12. Power supply is possible from both single-phase and three-phase networks. The body material is galvanized steel ; inside there are conventional tubular heaters. The appearance suggests that the prototype was one of the Finnish heaters, for example, “Harvia”. In general, nothing outstanding, but the price is low .

"Aurora": reviews

Unfortunately, there were no reviews on the Internet for the Aurora electric heater, but we would venture to assume that its main advantage is its reasonable price; it would be strange to praise everything else - a completely ordinary, standard configuration, made from budget materials.

"Energoresurs-T"

The company even dedicated a separate website to one of its stoves, namely the Anniki electric heater. However, there is nothing surprising here: this is truly a unique selling proposition. The fact is that you will not find another electric stove on the market that would be made entirely... from fireclay bricks and stone. Despite the fact that brick ovens are not inexpensive, they are popular. In addition, it may be interesting to design them using the portal.

Electric heater "Anniki"

The W-shaped electric heater is mounted in a single block with fireclay bricks, a tight fit to which ensures maximum heat transfer without overheating the heater (this is good because it increases its service life). The fireclay brick transfers heat further to the soapstone body.

The IR radiation from Annika is extremely soft, and the special design of the evaporators (there are three of them) allows for uniform heating of the steam room. You can get any steam - heavy or light - depending on the task.

Operates from a 220 volt network, there are modifications with different power. There are reviews on the Annika website, they are extremely positive.

Video

"Bonfire"

Kostra electric heaters are represented by one single series: GEOS. It includes the following modifications:

  • GEOS-SOFT – inertial;
  • GEOS-FAST – convection;
  • GEOS-CORNER – corner model.

Electric heaters “Koster” GEOS

SOFT is surrounded by stones on all sides, which increases the heating time and makes it softer. FAST has stones only on the front side, which increases convection from metal surfaces, which means it speeds up the heating of the steam room. CORNER is a space-saving modification because the heater can be placed in a corner.

The power of any variety is two types: 6 and 9 kW. All are powered from a three-phase network (380 V).

Russian electric heater "Ermak"

The well-known manufacturer of sauna stoves has released two lines of Ermak electric heaters - Elektra-Box and Elektra-Tower.

The “Box” has stainless steel 13 mm in diameter, the “Tower” has the same, plus ribs that expand to 33 mm.

Electric heater "Vesta"

We already mentioned above that we were unable to establish the manufacturer of this heater, but it is of interest to the consumer, so we will not ignore it.

The main advantage of this furnace is the band heaters . As already mentioned, they are more economical and durable than tubular ones, but they are rare. The price of the stove can also be considered acceptable . The rest is a standard electric oven. Below are the characteristics of different modifications:

Characteristics of the Vesta stove

Maslova heat generator and electric heater

Finally, we’ll tell you about the developments related to the “Maslov bath” patented by the inventor. He was attracted by the idea of creating a steam room in the image and likeness of the insides of a Russian stove. That is, heating comes not from one stove, but from several heaters or aqua panels. The heaters are hidden behind the inner lining of the steam room. There is no stove inside! At the same time, all surfaces are heated evenly, and Maslov’s ones are necessarily lined with either stone or ceramics . By the way, marble cladding made from stones is also quite acceptable.

In order to be able to steam in such a bathhouse with a broom, Maslov developed his own “ heat generator ” - a device for producing light, finely dispersed steam, which only works during steaming, so as not to overheat the bathhouse . Below is a diagram of Maslov’s heat generator itself and the electric heater:

Photo source www.bani-maslova.ru

As you can see, this is an electric oven in which heat from heating elements is transferred to cast iron plates and stones. The temperature limit can be adjusted using a thermostat.

Electric sauna stove: reviews

IMPORTANT! Most consumers in their reviews pay attention to the simplicity and ease of use, good steam generation, fast heating and small dimensions of the ovens, which free up space.

Users made a special mention of the ability to choose different designs. According to the owner of a sauna chain, who chose Narvi products, this is a big plus, as is the affordable price of its models.

Others like the fact that electric sauna stoves are made primarily of stainless alloys , which guarantees their durability .

Among the “ideal” models of electric sauna stoves are, for example, SAWO Cumulus CML-60 NB, Narvi NM, SAWO Tower TH3-60 NB.

Many admit that they have chosen Finnish stoves. But there are also those who appreciate the merits of domestic products.

In particular, about the Kristina Classic electric heater, manufactured, it is said that the tape heater in it is not afraid of water , so it can be poured without fear.

Other users see Russian electric heaters as a “memory of a tank” and prefer European design.

Another category of consumers pays attention to the possibility of using a sauna stove in the “Russian bath” mode. One of them says that he is very pleased with the capabilities of the Swedish Tylo Combi oven with controlled humidity and temperature.

As for the minuses , the most often mentioned are the high power consumption and the considerable cost of high-quality models.

Almost everyone considers a remote control

A few useful tips that are not included in our article will help you choose the right electric heater:

*** So, we hope that our readers came to the same conclusions as we did: electric sauna stoves are an excellent combination of technology and tradition, suitable for use specifically in a Finnish sauna. And there are quite enough models to cover all user segments - from simple mini-stoves and budget options to elegant, highly reliable models designed for daily use in commercial saunas.

Is it worth purchasing equipment with a steam generator?

People in Russia are accustomed to the fact that a bathhouse should have steam. However, it should be remembered that in this case, sweat does not evaporate from the skin, which means that heat exchange does not occur properly and the temperature seems to be much higher than the real one. For some, this is the most important factor. But it is worth remembering that such overheating creates a significant load on the heart.

A steam generator is a necessary attribute for lovers of the “Russian steam room”. Of course, such a surrogate cannot be called a full-fledged replacement for a bathhouse, but in the conditions of the “concrete jungle” of megacities, a person rejoices at such an opportunity to feel the heat from the stove.

To achieve the effect of a Russian bath, you will need an electrical appliance with a steam generator

If the owner has the same attitude towards steam and dry saunas, you can purchase a model that can operate in both modes, which will allow you to turn on one or another function depending on your mood. If you have already purchased an electric heater and do not have a steam generator, such a device can be purchased separately.
