Examples of Baroque apartment design

Characteristics and history

Baroque in the interior is similar to Rococo, an offshoot of the classical style of the early 18th century, which emphasizes ornamentation, mythological themes, and an abundance of decorative elements. The Baroque interior is characterized by contrasting colors, jewelry and graceful gold inserts and decoration.

Features of Baroque in the interior:

  • the presence of paintings, frescoes;
  • gold trim and fittings, complex patterns and sculpting;
  • solid wood furniture;
  • large space;
  • expensive and voluminous textiles;
  • symmetrical arrangement of furniture.

Availability of paintings

The style is distinguished by a large number of candelabra, curls, and gilding. If you choose among the replicas, then you should pay attention to the following.

  • Death of Mary.
  • Exaltation of the Cross.
  • Jewish bride, etc.

All of them are distinguished by muted tones, large forms, and uniform motifs. You can also find a decent option from contemporary artists.

Natural materials

Everything here is quite simple, you need to remember that the movement dates back to the Middle Ages, when people did not yet know about plastic. Only natural materials are used.

  • Stone.
  • Tree.
  • Cotton, linen, leather, velvet, skins, fur, etc.

Tables, chests of drawers, shelves should be made only from expensive and high-quality wood. If we consider ideas with decoration in the style of Italy of the 17th century, then we definitely need to provide candlesticks made of high-quality metal.

Large space in the room

Many may think that a Baroque apartment implies “clutter.” However, this is not the case. The style has a mirror character, which should only visually increase the space. Examples can be seen in the collected collection.

Symmetry of interior furniture

Experience has shown that only a single style can support ergonomics. For example, a chest of drawers and a closet should not be decorated in different styles or colors. Everything must be holistic and unified; this is the only way to maintain the fine line between “compressive” space and spaciousness.

Modern furniture, which is 90% custom-made, removes the feeling of “bulkyness”.

Baroque style: luxury in the classics

The word barocco translated from Italian sounds like “vicious, excessively luxurious” (literally: “pearl with vice”) and fully justifies the name of the style that arose in the mid-17th century. during the heyday of the Renaissance, when the Sun King Louis XIV reigned.

The distinctive features of Baroque are excessive luxury, ostentatious wealth, bombast, bizarre forms both in architecture and in the design of premises. In the interiors of modern housing, the Baroque style is no less popular than the classics - perhaps not on such a scale; There are interiors in which Baroque can be seen only in furniture or decoration. At the same time, proper design creates the illusion of luxury and prosperity.

The emergence of the Baroque style

At the beginning of the 17th century, religion in Rome played a huge role in the lives of ordinary citizens. In response to the Protestant Reformation, the Catholic Church sought to establish emotional contact with the Italians. And if during the Renaissance, architectural art positioned itself as elitist and “not for everyone,” then the Baroque was designed to make even the uneducated masses believe in the power and grandeur of the church.

The popes hired the best architects, artists, and interior designers to build countless churches and palaces, which changed the appearance of the city and made Rome visually richer and more luxurious. This style was quickly picked up throughout Europe. Following the exterior, the interior decoration of wealthy citizens also changed.

The great artists of their time were developing a new style of furniture and decor, trying to outdo each other and themselves. Let's see what they came up with.

Basic principles of modern Baroque

It is characterized by gilded surfaces with inlays, valuable finishing materials, stucco moldings, wall paintings, exquisite furniture and the use of art objects (paintings, statues) in decoration. Accordingly, it requires spacious rooms with high ceilings - where the designer can realize all the ideas without overloading the space.

The color scheme is rich and rich. The combination of white and gold is considered a classic, but burgundy, bright blue, chocolate brown, light green and terracotta are actively used as additional colors.

Walls

Smooth plaster can be used to decorate them, but in this case it is decorated with artistic painting, inserts of marble and mirrors, stucco or moldings. Wallpaper made using silk-screen printing technique, trellises with embossing and monograms look very impressive.

Experts talk about three techniques for decorating walls. You can choose the one that is most interesting to you. First: a perfectly evenly plastered surface is painted white or light beige, and matte paint is used. A molded cornice is attached along the entire perimeter of the walls at the border with the ceiling, and moldings or mirror frames are selected to match it. The second option involves the use of two contrasting colors in combination with gilding. To emphasize the height of the ceiling, marble columns with carved capitals are installed, and large mirrors visually expand the space. The third is called “white on white”. For it, they buy embossed or silk-screened wallpaper, as well as gilded stucco square frames. Designers decorate the walls with squares or rectangles of wallpaper enclosed in an openwork shell, obtaining unique medallions. The rest of the wall is painted with white matte paint, and the moldings are painted with gold acrylic. The portals between the “medallions” are decorated with snow-white sculptures.

Ceiling

The design of the walls and ceiling is carried out in the same key, so both there can be ornate stucco curls, frescoes with a distant perspective, inscribed in ovals and circles, limited by gilding, and other decorative pictorial inserts. A crystal chandelier with pendants shimmering in the light will complement the majestic look. Usually a molded rosette or an order is placed around it, allowing it to attract additional attention.

Floor

It must correspond to the declared status. Therefore, they cover it with parquet, laminate that imitates the pattern of natural wood, marble or ceramic tiles that imitate this stone or granite. Fluffy carpets with long pile and dense texture are appropriate in the Baroque style. Most often, designers offer luxurious Persian handmade products that perfectly complement the overall atmosphere, but plain models made in the same color scheme as used in the decoration of the walls are also appropriate.

Furnishings

Furniture plays an important role, setting the tone for the room. There are no trifles here; every piece of furniture bears the imprint of the unique Baroque - decorated with carvings, inlays, and mosaics. Most often these are handmade items to order, but some companies produce high-quality exclusive furniture of this style, so you can choose suitable tables, cabinets and sofas.

Character traits:

  • curved backs of chairs, armchairs and sofas;
  • silk or velvet upholstery of upholstered furniture;
  • wood carving;
  • gilding;
  • inlay;
  • artistic painting (classical);
  • decorative pillows;
  • hand embroidery.

For the dining room you need to choose a set of a large table and massive chairs. The massive tabletop is decorated with carvings or mosaics and inlaid with valuable wood. The legs of such furniture are usually twisted and gilded.

The bed in the bedroom can be installed on the podium, making it a detail that forms the overall appearance of the room. Also, the Baroque style assumes the presence of a luxurious canopy.

Accessories

The decor is lush and luxurious: paintings by famous artists of the past, marble sculptures, candelabra, vases, soft pillows on armchairs and sofas, tapestries and, of course, mirrors in rich gilded frames, decorated with monograms and curlicues.

Textiles with each fold emphasize the luxury of the chosen style, so designers recommend using only expensive and very high-quality silk, brocade, satin, taffeta, velvet and tapestry. It will look and look very attractive. But linen, cotton and even genuine leather should be abandoned as furniture upholstery.

The pattern on the fabric is important. These can be French lilies, monograms, floral compositions or individual large flower petals, as well as narrow stripes.

The curtains are reminiscent of a theater curtain: from ceiling to floor - heavy, made of velvet or other expensive materials, decorated with lambrequins and tiebacks that allow you to fasten them to the sides of the window during the day. Thin organza, letting the sun's rays through, framed by luxurious curtains will look very gentle.

Lighting Features

Ceiling chandeliers, without which the interior design will look unfinished, are made from exclusive materials. The base is usually made of forged metal, which allows you to give the curls a fancy shape, pendants made of crystal or very high-quality cut glass. Plastic is completely inappropriate.

In addition, you will need other lamps. Soft lighting in the evening will be created by lamps with textile lampshades, providing the diffused light that candles provided in past centuries. Wall sconces will add a touch of mystery, designating secluded corners in the room. For the kitchen and hallway, you can choose either lamps with crystal pendants, or lampshades decorated with historical drawings or elegant copies of famous paintings.

What should you give up?

From modern types of surface finishing: no decorative plaster, paneling or tiling. Composite materials are prohibited, as are shiny metal surfaces, glossy facades, and floral and striped wallpaper.

When choosing furniture, do not buy products that have strict geometric proportions, wheels, simplified shapes, built-in niches and small elements. Remember that all furnishings must be combined with each other.

Avoid cheap accessories and overly simple textiles. Even the most attractive things and jewelry made in high-tech, country or pop art styles will be inappropriate.

All modern devices (TV, stereo system, etc.) should be as inconspicuous as possible; it is best if they are hidden behind furniture doors, which, if necessary, can always be opened and then closed again.

How to create a design correctly

The Baroque style, like a mosaic, consists of many details. All surfaces in the room are used, otherwise the design will be incomplete. There are rules to help recreate luxurious interior design.

Walls

The main goal of baroque is to surprise those entering the room. The decoration of the vertical space is chic and luxurious. The walls should not be monochromatic or covered with the same type of material. The design combines voluminous and smooth surfaces, contrasting gloss and matte.

Palace luxury is recreated with the help of modern decoration. Decorative plaster is used on the walls, which visually repeats the pattern of the stone. Solid color inserts will add relief to the surface:

  • curbs;
  • moldings;
  • pilasters;
  • stucco.

Often the walls are divided into rectangles and filled symmetrically with 2-3 types of materials. Tapestries on a textile or paper basis will add dynamics to the Baroque style in the interior. Instead of plaster, you can use “liquid” or vinyl wallpaper, creating the desired volume and texture.

Wooden or plaster panels painted to match the main background will help outline the boundaries.

The luxury design of technical premises is no different from residential ones. Ceramic tiles are appropriate on kitchen walls. In the apron area, a mosaic or fresco is used, hidden under thermal glass. When decorating a bathroom, they emphasize the beauty of the natural texture of the stone, combining the play of gloss and matte.

Floor

Baroque flooring is distinguished by palace luxury. Even if the walls are done in muted colors, the floor will be bright and noticeable. Designers use natural materials:

  • noble wood;
  • granite;
  • marble.

Artistic parquet is appropriate as a covering in the living room. The combination of different types of wood allows you to get an unusual texture or color; they combine varnish and matte muting. Using the material, they create huge paintings on the floor, emphasizing the size of the space.

In modular (“panelboard”) parquet, the dies are assembled in the shape of a rectangle. The covering visually resembles a carpet. The rosette variety looks luxurious, the pattern of which is concentrated in the form of a circle in the center of the room. When dividing a room into zones, decorative border trim is applied. If you need an aged effect, craquelure technology is used on the floor.

When decorating a Baroque style in a bedroom interior, designers use varnished boards. The glossy shimmer of the finish enhances the beauty of the wood. The space looks luxurious, expensive and elegant. The covering is often complemented by a carpet with a geometric pattern.

In a Baroque interior, a self-leveling floor looks impressive. The decoration will harmoniously fit into the living room and bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The wear-resistant material can visually resemble parquet with a complex pattern or precious stone. The pleasant, warm surface can be glossy or matte.

Ceiling

When designing the overhead space, the luxury of the design is emphasized. Both classic flat structures and complex types (spheres, vaults) are appropriate in the interior. The high ceilings are decorated with paintings and ornate stucco moldings. Decorative elements flow onto the wall, creating a single composition.

Overhead you can combine different technologies. Designers combine multi-level plasterboard structures with tensioned fabrics.

The huge ceiling reproductions, repeating the scenes of famous masters, look impressive. A voluminous border is placed around the perimeter, and cherub figures are placed in the corners.

A fresco will harmoniously fit into the design of a baroque room. Based on the type of image application, there are 3 types:

  1. Wet plaster. Traditional technology makes it possible to obtain original drawings.
  2. Canvas. The painting is fixed on the ceiling, the edges around the perimeter are hidden under the frame.
  3. Non-woven fabric. The fresco is printed on wallpaper and then glued to the surface. The textured material visually resembles raw plaster.

An image that completely covers the space above your head looks luxurious. The huge pattern emphasizes the height of the ceiling and the size of the room. Designers often create the effect of a remote retrospective. In the bedroom, frescoes “inscribed” in ovals or rectangles are appropriate.

Windows and doors

The monumentality and pomp of the baroque interior is emphasized by the huge openings. Large glass blocks are often made in the form of arches. Stucco molding is placed around the perimeter of the wooden frame, which echoes the design of the ceiling.

The glass surface is supplemented with sprats. The decorative frame on the windows visually resembles a lattice.

In a Baroque interior, elegant doors with a straight or arched opening are appropriate. Hinged double-leaf structures with carved or stucco facades look impressive and are suitable for country houses. Interior options in the apartment consist of one element, complemented by stained glass windows.

Floor decoration

Marble, granite, varnished boards, and artistic parquet were used for flooring in historical interiors. The floor complemented the overall picture of splendor and luxury, but did not draw attention to itself. The floors in living rooms and bedrooms were often covered with thick Persian carpets with designs and patterns.

Today, laminate, parquet boards, and marble tiles are used for floor finishing. An important condition remains the combination with the wall decoration and the overall concept of the room. The floor should complement the overall look of the room. Today, patterned carpets are replaced with plain ones or suitable analogues with bright patterns are selected.

Accessories

Decorative items for the Baroque style in the interior are selected especially carefully. With such an abundance of stylish accessories, each item needs to be included so that the house does not look like an antiques store, but looks luxurious and harmonious.

Mirrors in gilded inlaid frames, figurines and boxes, candlesticks and paintings on the walls will add sophistication and aristocracy to the interior.

Fresh flowers and arrangements in designer vases will be appropriate in any home. A luxurious carpet made of silk or wool will harmoniously fit into the created interior.

This elegant and pretentious style with graceful lines and rich pompous decoration, as a reminder of palace interiors, is still interesting today. Of course, it is difficult to create a full-fledged Baroque interior for a number of reasons, but some elements of this elegant and romantic style will appeal to lovers of richly decorated interiors.

Lighting

Modern Baroque tribute to the past century is soft multi-level lighting using lamps imitating candles. Chic crystal and bronze chandeliers will also perfectly decorate the interior. In addition to them, sconces and floor lamps are located in different places. Candlesticks and candelabra are used both as decorative items and as additional romantic lighting.

Choosing color shades when decorating and renovating an apartment in the Baroque style

There is a certain stereotype that baroque is only burgundy and purple shades. It is important to remember here that each country has its own characteristics and folk trends. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the options described below.

White

Speaking of white tone, here we can highlight shades that are more like ivory. Maintaining whiteness in the 17th century was very problematic. In combination with gilding, one can highlight the aristocracy of the owner. Examples can be seen in the photo.

Important! Baroque in the interior of an apartment in white looks very modern.

Gold

Sand walls, terracotta details - all this can increase the cost of housing several times. Despite the fact that many consider the predominance of such a palette to be something vulgar, if the designer works correctly, everything will look harmonious and fresh.

Blue

The use of dark shades is expected. In this case, it is advisable that the apartment is located on the sunny side, otherwise the housing will be plunged into darkness. The situation can only be saved with the use of pre-thought-out lighting engineering.

Violet

A classic for connoisseurs of the origins of this movement. In 2021, Dolce and Gabbana were able to give this trend new life. You can familiarize yourself with the current palette and the correct play of light in ready-made examples of projects and ideas.

Pink

A real paradise for women who have dreamed all their lives of taking the place of a queen or princess. If you play with the palette correctly, you can recreate the classic Baroque. Well suited for highlighting a nursery in a two-room apartment.

And others

Brutal black baroque for real men and hunters. The interior should be dominated by real leather and expensive wood. It is recommended to make the room on the sunny side, otherwise even lighting will not help. Brown shades that were fashionable back in the early 19th century.

Look great with modern technology and art objects.

Is the Baroque style within a small apartment an absurdity or is it worth taking a risk?

In the first paragraph, we mentioned that the key to a beautiful and harmonious interior in the Baroque style is the presence of free space even after placing large-sized furniture. Based on this, many owners of modern, modest living spaces deny themselves such pleasure. It is not necessary to do this at all. You just need to follow a few tips in order to maintain the necessary feeling of spaciousness combined with a characteristic finish:

  • There is no need to strive to follow absolutely all the rules and use the maximum number of details. In other words, use only key recommendations when creating your interior. Let there be one sofa in a small living room, but with characteristic carved high legs and rich upholstery.
  • It is not necessary to cover the entire surface of the walls with stucco and gilding. Let the walls be decorated with modest baguettes or borders in combination with non-woven or vinyl wallpaper, and it is better to use stucco on the ceiling.
  • Give preference to light colors for walls and floors.

  • Allocate funds to purchase a small but beautiful carpet.
  • If the bedroom is small, choose a bed with a smaller sleeping area and a lower headboard. But let it be covered with beautiful fabric or embroidery. Decorate your sleeping area with small decorative pillows.
  • Compensate for lack of space with tall floor mirrors. They can be decorated with a gilded wooden frame.
  • Pay attention to lighting fixtures. Let there be a lot of them, and they will have textile or crystal lampshades.
  • Don't skimp on the quality of your flooring. Choose expensive, textured laminate or tiles.
  • Decorate window openings and door panels with fabric that matches the color of the upholstery of upholstered furniture.

Such simple but effective methods will definitely add nobility to your room and bring solemnity.

Baroque style in a modern apartment interior concept

As noted earlier, each country has made its own adjustments in this direction over several centuries. The features can be found below.

Sicilian Baroque

  • To understand the main idea, you should pay attention to the details.
  • The room is dominated by natural stone.
  • All buildings erected in Sicily in the 17th and 18th centuries are characterized by narrow passages, marble and elaborate staircases.
  • Dark tones and shades - from gray to black.
  • You need to pay attention to the works of Vincenzo Sinatra.

Portuguese Baroque

The style was influenced by several other countries that arrived as refugees during the 18th century. These are Arabs, Turks, Germanic peoples. Many people attribute this trend to pombalino. Secular pretentiousness, pragmatism. You can see the ideas in the photo.

Russian Baroque

Russian Baroque is more associated with the theater. The main emphasis is on drama, so not everyone can withstand such pressure. Only suitable for certain personality types.

And other

Many may not even realize it, but even small countries have their own distinct style. For example, Moldavian Baroque may seem the most interesting option. Since the territory was filled with the Romanesque movement in the 18th century, it could not pass without a trace.

Expensive and massive decorative items made of gold and art objects are typical here.

The right selection of Baroque style furniture for an apartment

The main motive is set by furniture and textiles. It's difficult to choose when you don't have a clear idea of the style. Therefore, citizens often turn to experienced designers who can select options that will remain relevant for several years.

Choosing a sofa

If the room is small, it is advisable to consider options with a sofa. It is important to pay attention to the presence of varnished carvings. The more carefully it is done, the more expensive it will cost the owner. Thanks to modern technologies, citizens can save on machine cutting, which is much cheaper than manual cutting.

To make furniture, choose a type of wood that can be polished and decorated with carvings, for example, walnut.

Choosing a bed

Bizarre shapes, curves - all this is characteristic of expensive and luxurious furniture in the Baroque style. The bed is purchased already when the overall design of the room is complex. As an additional material to wood, velvet cladding is often used. Furniture made of oak looks best. The decorative headboard should fit into the overall style of the interior.

For convenience, many companies offer several items at once, made by the hands of one master.

Choice of armchairs and chairs

These interior items should be luxurious and exclusive. One chair can cost more than the entire renovation. For men's designs, models made of pure leather are suitable. For a room or living room, the upholstery must be made of velvet or suede. It is also worth highlighting that it is quite difficult to maintain expensive furniture, so it is advisable to choose more modern models that can be cleaned and are easy to maintain.

For decoration, ivory, tortoise shell, gilding, and bronze are used.

Desktop selection

There are several models.

  1. French.
  2. Italian.

Speaking about the first option, graceful and thin lines stand out. The second one is more massive. It all depends on the size of the office. It is important to remember that the 17th and 18th centuries are famous for coups d'etat and secrets. Therefore, having a hiding place in the table will be a good opportunity to emphasize belonging to a secret community.

Baroque style furniture is unique, with long twisted legs and gold fittings.

And other

More attention needs to be paid to textiles and small details in the form of a headset. After all, they are the ones who set the character of the chosen direction. You can see the ideas in the photo.

Baroque in a modern interior

When creating a Baroque style in a modern interior, you need to remember that:

  • this is one of the most expensive interiors, which cannot be faked and requires elaboration;
  • it is difficult to fully implement it in small rooms and small-sized apartments; baroque needs space;
  • Modern finishing materials, such as wallpaper, linoleum or modern stretch ceilings, PVC film, are inappropriate here;
  • kitchen appliances, TV and other household appliances must be hidden after use or disguised with front doors;
  • you can create a compromise modern baroque style that fits well with modern elements of everyday life.

Baroque is one of the most demanding styles, but even in a small room you can recreate it using not all pieces of furniture, but only elements. Characteristic decor and textiles will highlight the interior and set the mood for guests at home.

Rules for creating an interior

The main principle will be to avoid monotony and create a feeling of luxury. On 80 square meters and with a small budget this is unlikely to work.

You can decorate a hall or office in this style, but not a small room. In this case, it is better to limit yourself to stylization using some characteristic details.

To create a Baroque style interior in your apartment, you need to purchase only luxury furniture. Sofas and armchairs can only be of the highest quality, upholstered in expensive fabrics and with carved details. The interior designer will need:

  • spacious room;
  • high-quality massive furniture;
  • paintings, frescoes;
  • elaborate gilded fittings;
  • various decorative pillows;
  • necessarily hand embroidery.

This direction is quite open for those who want to fully enjoy the freedom of creativity. With the help of a baroque interior, which is again in fashion, you can focus on the high status and wealth of the owner of the house. But at the same time it is important not to lose elegance and harmony.

How to decorate different rooms?

Each of the rooms in the home can be decorated in a baroque style.

Dining room

It is recommended to install the most beautiful sets in the kitchen and dining areas of an apartment or house. The use of painted furniture (with the inclusion of openwork details) is also recommended. For upholstery, use silk or velvet fabric, preferably with a pattern. To create the most sophisticated interior possible, it is advisable to decorate the space with stone.

Cushions on sofas must be embroidered by hand.

living room

The design of even a small guest room involves the use of large fireplaces with custom finishes and selected textiles. The use of valuable wood is encouraged. Tones are selected with the expectation of emphasizing the depth of space and creating contrast. Experts advise giving preference to burgundy, green, black and white colors.

When renovating, walls, door and window frames are often inlaid; you can also use plaster with stucco inclusions and imitate columns.

The ceiling in the baroque living room is decorated with arches and painted. A crystal chandelier will look gorgeous. It is worth laying parquet on the floor. The floor is also sometimes finished with natural stone or covered with a lush carpet. Decorative items are complemented with fringe, ruffles and bugles.

bedroom

Such a room can be created by:

  • decorative plaster;
  • plaster moldings;
  • paper wallpaper with golden print;
  • multilayer ceiling containing warm-spectrum LED lamps.

Wide moldings with pronounced relief are placed at the corners of the ceiling. The floor is decorated with marble tiles or complex inlaid parquet.

Important: the color of all finishing materials must match the overall tone of the room.

Milky, white, beige and light yellow colors are preferred, creating a warm and cozy space. The average bed has dimensions of 2x3 m or even more, complemented by a high soft headboard and an airy canopy.

hallway

The layout of the furniture is thought out so that even when it is completely saturated, there remains quite a lot of free space. Space for accessories is also taken into account. There must be curved lines everywhere. Even a straight decorative column is not as appropriate as its twisted counterpart. Stucco molding is also required, ideally complemented by gilding.

Welcome:

  • fresco painting;
  • multilayer curtains and draperies;
  • an abundance of mirrors;
  • bright hues.

A classic baroque office includes round and rectangular tables. The edges are inlaid and decorated with carvings. If you have enough money, you can purchase furniture made of ebony wood. Cabinets can be equipped with steel linings and mosaics.

A good office includes chests of drawers, desks and coffee tables, sofas, chairs and armchairs.

Children's room

Such a room, when decorated in the Baroque style, has pale pink or blue colors (in all possible shades). In addition to painting the walls, these colors are used in decorating other parts of the room. Color is also created using the already mentioned golden and white paints.

The essential features will be:

  • the presence of a canopy;
  • use of lace;
  • hanging paintings in the Rococo style;
  • light furniture with abundant carvings;
  • themed applications for furniture;
  • textiles in soft pastel colors.

Main characteristics and features

Baroque is often called a palace style, and this is justified by its characteristics and signs - it is large-scale, theatrical in every detail. The direction is complex in execution; when creating a design project, you need to take into account all its features:

  • a large space with high ceilings, voluminous windows, if not technically, then visually;
  • the basis of the color scheme is a white and gold palette, the accents are contrasting, but not irritating to the eyes;
  • luxurious, expensive furniture, reminiscent of a work of art, and not a functional item, made of natural wood or its exact imitation;
  • unusual decor - art objects, antiques, famous paintings or their reproductions in handmade frames, tapestries, sculptures.

Exaggeration of everything and in everything - this principle underlies this direction. Modern realities make their own adjustments to the style. It will no longer be possible to recreate the exact Baroque, but it is necessary to preserve its leading elements. The space is filled with carved furniture, the elements of which are emphasized by gilding and bronze. The walls and ceiling are decorated with stucco, columns, paintings, and graceful figures of children, ballerinas, and sculptural groups of musicians are used as accessories. If textiles, then only brocade, velvet, heavy natural silk, and not only in the form of blankets, capes, curtains, but as upholstery and finishing details.

To decorate a room like this, it is necessary to select and arrange the lighting correctly. In Baroque, these are multi-tiered chandeliers, ornate wall lamps, large arched windows, preferably “floor-length”, with numerous partitions on the frame, possibly colored stained glass.

Color range, combinations

The style palette is always based on gold and all shades and undertones of white. Modern baroque allows for the presence in the interior of such colors and shades as

  • brown;
  • beige;
  • peach;
  • all shades of gray;
  • chocolate;
  • blue and sea;
  • red gamma;
  • rich green;
  • black and others.

Gilding or bronze is always present, and combinations of white with muted blue, light blue, wine, malachite, a “duet” of green and “café au lait,” turquoise with cream, ash pink with brown are actively used as an addition or base.

Forms

The pomposity and excessive luxury of the style are smoothed out by the shapes of the objects’ bodies and the principle of textile draping. The basis is smoothness, the absence of sharp corners, and strict geometry. The symmetry of arches, ovals, and smooth decorative lines is welcome.

The furniture is slightly raised above the floor on curved legs. Mirrors, stucco on their frames and walls, the ceiling creates ovals, regular circles, curtains are collected in voluminous folds. If the space is zoned with moldings, then rectangles, squares with rounded corners and ornaments inside are created from them.

It is important to understand that Baroque is not just “expensive and rich”, but also stylish, in a modern design, restrained, conceptually thoughtful. If you choose this direction for the interior of your house or apartment, do not experiment yourself, contact Nikona Stroy.

Beautiful examples

The photo shows an attractive baroque style bedroom. The white color is diluted with golden inclusions. Furniture with carved figured legs, decorative pillows and other characteristic decorative elements are skillfully used.

But you can do it differently by using a combination of light and dark tones to decorate a baroque living room.

You can also look at such an example - a kitchen in the Baroque style, where the features of the format are also shown using a white and yellow color scheme and many figured elements.

What decorative elements are used today?

In modern interior decoration you are unlikely to find rooms or halls completely decorated in the Baroque style, but some parts are used:

  • massive columns with stucco;
  • staircases with bizarre shapes and railings;
  • carved ornament;
  • pilasters.

Materials used for finishing: marble and gilding, fresco, patterned raw plaster, plaster, expensive wood. Moreover, the presence of each element in the interior is necessary and does not seem bulky or pompous.

Important! Baroque is used to decorate large, spacious rooms. In small ones with low ceilings, everything will look like a warehouse for furniture and expensive things.
