No home would be complete without a table. Behind him they feast on the owner's delicacies, solve crossword puzzles, drink tea in the morning and receive guests, even work. Choosing a kitchen table is a responsible and complex matter. Buying the first one that catches your eye is not a very good decision: what if, when he moves into the apartment, it turns out that it doesn’t suit the size, style of the interior or the color of the chairs? It is better to put a list of criteria in front of your eyes and, with a heavy heart, weed out the unnecessary ones. Take your time, choose carefully.
Small or large: choose the size
Calculate the size using the formula: family + several guests. If you like to host parties at home, choose a folding table or buy two tables so that you can add an additional one to the main one if necessary. For a small family, a kitchen table with seating for family members and 1 to 2 guests is suitable.
Each person needs 60-90 cm of space at the table in order to sit comfortably and relax while talking and eating. Using the calculation formula, it turns out that a family of 3 people (and 2 guests) needs a table with a long side of the table top - 120 cm and a short side - 60 cm. It can be moved to the wall, and if you put it in the center of the kitchen, then another free one will appear place.
Keep in mind that it is inconvenient to serve on a narrow one, and to put food on a large one. Sample size: width up to 90 cm for rectangular shapes, and if the kitchen table is round, then up to 130 cm in diameter.
Material used
Often a person has a question: what can a kitchen table be made from? It all depends on financial capabilities. The following options are available:
Fiberboard and chipboard are easy to process and will allow you to make a budget option.
Natural pine wood is an excellent choice for a small investment. This material will allow you to create a high-quality product that, with proper care, will last a considerable time.
Using hard wood in the form of oak or beech will allow you to make a unique product that has an excellent aesthetic appearance and increased strength. You will have to put a little effort into processing this wood, but the result is worth it.Read here - Instructions on how to make a stool (stool) with your own hands - see the step-by-step production of different types of stools in the photo and video!
As you can see, there are quite a lot of options. For any financial budget, you can find a suitable option for yourself. In any case, a product made on your own will cost much less financially than one bought in a store.
Where to put it so you don't trip?
A square, rectangular or oval table is convenient to install near a wall, but can also be placed in the center of the room. The round one has fewer placement options - only in the center, you can’t move it to the wall. When placing the table in the center, make sure that there is at least 1 meter of distance between it and the wall - otherwise it will be difficult to walk around it.
Manufacturing process
Let's look at the step-by-step process of making a table with your own hands using the example of a simple product. The workflow consists of the following steps:
- To make the legs, take 4 wooden blocks 45x45 mm, 75 cm long.
- For the tabletop you will need 4 edged boards 50 mm thick, 1 m long and 60 mm wide. They should be smooth, without knots and well dried.
- For the frame you will need 2 boards 80 cm long and 2 boards 40 cm long. The width of both boards is 40 mm, thickness 25 mm.
- Using a planer, all boards must be carefully sanded to a perfectly smooth surface.
- To make a tabletop, the boards are laid in an opposite pattern to each other.
- Every 15 cm in thickness, holes with a diameter of 8 mm are drilled to a depth of 3 cm in all boards for the tabletop.
- Special inserts 8 mm thick and 6 cm long are made from wood. They must fit closely into the above holes.
- Mix the glue with sawdust and lubricate the wooden inserts with which we connect the boards into a single shield.
- We fix it with clamps and wait until it dries completely. Use a jigsaw to smooth out the edges. Use a plane to create a perfectly flat surface of the shield.
- The work surface is ready. Similarly, we assemble table legs, balusters and long crossbars.
- On the inside, you can use metal corners, which will provide additional strength.
After assembly is completed, the structure is covered with paint and varnish material.
TOP 6 forms
Without a suitable table shape, the perception of the interior will be incomplete. There will also be trouble if the kitchen table cannot fit in the kitchen due to its shape.
Rectangular
A table of this shape is the most “classic”. Pros: It can be placed anywhere and can accommodate a large number of guests and family members. Of the minuses: it is too massive and large for a small family.
Square
The square shape combines the classic grandeur of the rectangular and small size. It can comfortably fit up to 4 people.
Triangular
Triangular shapes look interesting: an excellent option for an Art Nouveau interior. They are sold with rounded corners, so it will be difficult to injure yourself on it. This table is designed for 3 people; it cannot accommodate more.
Round
Smooth outlines, absence of sharp corners that are so unpleasant to encounter. A feeling of unity and equality of all those sitting. Up to four people can sit at a round table when it stands on three legs and more if there is only one leg. Disadvantage: it cannot be placed against the wall.
Oval
Like the round table, the oval table is convenient for families with children: it has no corners that can be bumped into. Unlike the round one, the oval one is more spacious and can accommodate more people.
Non-standard forms
You don’t have to choose a classic dining table for your kitchen; you can play with the shapes. Manufacturers offer interesting shapes in the form of semicircles and polygons.
Round form
Known to people since the Middle Ages. One has only to remember what a round table the king of that time, Arthur, had. But it is important to know only one thing. A round table is perfect for a kitchen with a large area. If this is permissible for you, then you can safely choose a round tabletop. This type of tabletop can have any support. For example, one stable one, or several legs that are quite conveniently located. A larger number of people than usual can sit at such a table, compared to a rectangular shape. Also, a round tabletop is safe for both adults and children, since it has no corners.
Black, white or orange?
The color is chosen based on the color palette of the kitchen unit. Three approaches are used: playing in contrast, monochrome or accent.
- Playing with contrast, choose a table in a darker or lighter color than the set. The contrast can be not only with the kitchen facade: take a white table to the kitchen and match it with dark brown or black chairs.
- Single color is suitable for light kitchens when you want the room to remain light and airy. The chairs are also light, but not necessarily the same shade as the set.
- An accent is a bold decision to highlight a table with bright colors, but bold does not mean chaotic. For harmony there should be another item of the same color.
- An original option is to decorate the tabletop with photo printing.
Design
Before starting production, you should read the instructions on how to properly make a kitchen table. For this you will need:
- decide how many people the table should be and where it will stand;
- calculate its dimensions, design features, functionality;
- According to your budget, select the material to be used;
- prepare the necessary tools.
At this stage, we can consider that the work on designing the structure is completed.

Practical material
The table must be moisture resistant and patiently withstand temperature changes. Furniture made from simple chipboard will quickly become unusable; you will have to find better material:
- Made entirely of wood or with steel legs, it is reliable and will last a long time.
- A tabletop made of natural stone will add a special sophistication to the room. The downside is mannerism and weight. A large kitchen table made of such materials will be difficult to move, and in a small kitchen it will look unnecessary.
- Glass is beautiful and elegant, but it gets dirty easily and is rarely placed in the kitchen;
- Plastic for . Plastic furniture is lightweight and inexpensive.
How to choose material for a kitchen table?
The most important criterion when choosing the material from which a table for a small kitchen will be made is diversity. This could be metal, wood, glass, plastic and many others. This is where you need to approach the choice correctly and naturally rely on your financial capabilities to choose a table and chairs for the kitchen and how they will fit into the interior.
Of course, many people prefer to have a wooden table for the kitchen, because its qualities are not inferior to other materials and it is durable due to the fact that it is made from hard wood. If you choose a glass table for the kitchen, there are many options presented, and especially since such tables will look very original in the kitchen. Glass tables are very reliable; the tabletop is made in such a way that there are no mechanical damages, scratches, chips and other unpleasant moments.
And they don’t require much personal care; all you need is a damp cloth. By purchasing such a table, of course, you will be satisfied. Photos of kitchen tables are presented in the catalog, in which you can choose and select any table in any design.
If the kitchen is small, then choosing a kitchen table for a small kitchen would be an ideal option.

Harmony in style
The material, shape, and color of the dining table should be in harmony with the interior.
- For a room made in a classic style , a massive wooden table is suitable.
- Provence style enchants with its “rustic” notes. In such a kitchen, a table will look good, as if it was put together in a hurry, looking deliberately rough.
- High-tech style is ultra-modern furniture made of glass, steel or plastic. This material is also suitable for a kitchen designed in a minimalist style.
Decor on the table
Many people are accustomed to creating unique decor on the holiday table, so that it looks in accordance with the decor. However, decor can be not only festive, but also everyday. It is worth noting that decorating the dining table is a real art. Thanks to this, you can create a unique, cozy atmosphere in the kitchen.
In fact, you don't have to be a designer to decorate furniture in a special way. It doesn’t matter at all where exactly the table is located, it must be decorated with a central composition.
Most often, the decor is placed in the center of the tabletop, right at the intersection of the axes, and the serving utensils are placed around the central decoration. In the case when the table is moved towards the wall, and does not stand in the center of the room, the decor may shift from the center.
Decoration with flowers
Of course, the most common decorative option is a vase with artificial or fresh flowers. Undoubtedly, this decoration looks great. Flowers add elegance and brightness to the dining area. They also add a touch of natural beauty to the overall interior.
The choice of the vessel in which the flowers will stand is also of great importance.
A universal solution would be to choose a transparent vase that will look appropriate against any background and in combination with any dishes. You can also choose a vase that will match the color of the kitchen utensils, or vice versa, will contrast with it.
Advice Unfortunately, it is not always possible to decorate the table with fresh flowers. Well, fir or willow branches are ideal for these purposes.
Decoration with decorative dishes
However, decorating the table with flowers is a rather banal decision, because absolutely everyone does this, no matter what celebration you come to. In this regard, the question arises, what other furniture decor options exist?
Well, let's look at them:
1Basket, vase or dish with fresh fruit
This solution looks no less elegant than the option with flowers. Fruits make the dining area more cozy and appetizing. Moreover, you can select fruits by color that will match the overall interior. For example, if orange shades predominate in the room, then you can decorate the dining area with oranges.
Instead of fruits, you can also use vegetables, this is especially true in the autumn season.
In white colors
2Candles
Candles look especially advantageous in stylish candlesticks. But you can also use thick candles without candlesticks for decoration. Candles add a romantic touch to the dining area and look simply cozy and gorgeous on a casual dining table.
By the way, it is not at all necessary to light the candle; it itself looks elegant and beautiful.
3Empty vase
It is not at all necessary to put flowers or plant branches in a vase. The original vase itself brings its own unique flair to the decor, complementing the dining area. It is best to choose a vase to match the kitchen furniture. But, at your discretion, you can experiment with the color palette
.
High-tech style
4Transparent container with some kind of filling
The main advantage of this solution is that the color of the decoration is easy to change.
All that is required is to change the filling. The filler for transparent containers can be multi-colored candies, dried eggs, beads, marmalades, colored water, flower petals, coffee beans, and so on. In general, use your imagination, maybe you can come up with a more original and creative decoration in this regard.
5Jug with glasses or decanter
This decor is classic; it will especially highlight the rustic or stained glass style.
6Ceramic coffee pot or teapot
Almost every person loves coffee and tea. These drinks create warm and relaxing associations. A coffee pot or teapot on the table evokes warm feelings, coziness and comfort. Even if you put a tea and coffee set on the table, the latter will immediately be transformed.
Wooden elements make the room more comfortable
7Fragrant pastries
Imagine that you have toasted pies or buns on your table in a beautiful basket, carefully covered with a paper towel. Such a spectacle will not leave almost anyone indifferent, and the kitchen will resemble a cozy village hut in which various delicacies are prepared. You can also purchase so-called “fake” baked goods.
8Tablecloth
You can do it as simply as possible by covering the kitchen countertop with a beautiful tablecloth. You can purchase a ready-made tablecloth at your local store, or embroider it yourself, making it unique and one of a kind. By the way, if you have difficulties with embroidery, then you can order a tablecloth from a professional seamstress.
Taking into account the above, all that remains is to decide which table model is right for you.
A large kitchen has great potential
The spacious room allows you to place a massive kitchen table of any shape. A large kitchen with a rectangular or oval table in the center of the room or near the wall looks majestic and beautiful. A small family with a large kitchen will be pleased to drink tea in the morning on the sofa, at the table placed in front of it. But with a small table, a large kitchen will seem not like a spacious dining room, but like an empty football field.
Two selection criteria remained untouched: its price and convenience. You will have to fork out for high-quality furniture, but check the convenience in practice: sit down at the table, evaluate its height and width. A feeling of vague discomfort is a good reason to look for a better option.
Other forms
For example, choose a triangular table shape. Of course, it looks very original, elegant and unusual. But you need to place a table of this shape in a corner or in the middle of the kitchen. When it will be necessary to place more than three people behind it, this will be problematic. It is for this reason that you need to weigh the pros and cons when choosing a table of an unusual shape. It is important to think everything through in detail and carefully. After all, the practicality and convenience of the table should come first!
Don’t rush and immediately take the first set of kitchen furniture you like. First of all, you need to visualize it in your kitchen. Does it correspond to your wishes, requirements and requests that you have in relation to the kitchen table?
