What is a burn

According to the definition, a burn is damage to skin tissue that is caused by exposure to high temperature.

There are 4 degrees of burn in total.

Skin redness

Symptoms: redness of the skin, pain, burning, slight swelling. The upper layer of the skin, the epithelium, is damaged. Recovery occurs in two to five days. The damaged epithelium peels off, leaving no traces of burns on the skin.

Blistering of the skin

Symptoms: redness of the skin, pain, burning, the appearance of small blisters with liquid on the skin. The epithelium is affected up to the germ layer. After two to three weeks, the wound heals due to the self-healing of the remaining germ layers of the skin.

Death of skin tissue

Damage to all layers of the epidermis and dermis. Symptoms: blackening of the skin, formation of huge blisters

Charring of fabrics

Death of all tissues and skin. The muscles and bones were extremely damaged by the fire, literally charred.

Of course, a sane person cannot get the third and fourth stages of a burn in a bathhouse, but the first two happen quite often.

So how can you get burned in a bathhouse? What causes burns? How to avoid them?

Flame burn

This case occurs quite often. Any stove in a bathhouse is heated with wood, therefore a fire burn can be obtained by throwing a new portion of firewood into the stove. It’s worth distracting yourself a little, looking at the flame, and that’s it – the red flower has done its job.

You can protect yourself by wearing ordinary gloves.

Make it a rule to wear work gloves when performing any work in the bathhouse.

Chimney safety

Security measures:

  • One sandwich pipe is not enough; metal shielding will be required;
  • boxes with filling;
  • floor cuttings, dissections;
  • coating, whitening to more effectively detect soot and cracks;
  • along the entire length, insulation with basalt slabs and the like
  • inspection hatches;
  • regular inspections and cleanings.

The basics of fire safety of chimneys are set out in R. 5 SP 7:

  • from the fuel floor level to the bottom of the ash pit - 14 cm, chimney - 21 cm; for non-flammable - at the floor level;
  • There is a separate channel for each furnace. It is allowed to connect two units from the same room on the same floor, but with cuts at a height of 1 m from the base of the pipe connection;
  • chimney: cross-section 14 x 14 cm – heat source up to 3.5 kW; 14 x 20 – from 3.5 to 5.2; 14 x 27 from 5.2 to 7;
  • for solid fuel - valves 15 x 15 mm, spark arresters;
  • height from the grate to the mouth – from 5 m;
  • above a flat roof, ridge/parapet - from 50 cm;
  • thickness of brick walls from 120 mm, concrete – from 60 mm;
  • minimum from concrete and brick pipes to rafters, sheathing, roofing elements - 130 mm. The gap should be covered (screened) with non-combustible materials (roofing, basalt, mineral)
  • cutting is mandatory between floors and ceilings vertically: height from 70 cm, thickness from 12 cm, for temperatures above 1000 - 25 cm.
  • Horizontal brickwork is desirable at the attic exit point
  • Basic measures (SNiP 31-05, clause 4, 5, 6):

    • it is advisable not to exceed a power of 15 kW;
    • distance to walls – from 20 cm;
    • heating temperature in the steam room is not higher than +110° C;
    • with automatic shutdown every 8 hours, the place for the control unit is dry in front of the steam room;
    • all wires with semiconductor insulation, in non-conducting cable channels;
    • potential equalization, grounding, individual line with RCD or automatic circuit breaker, wire with the correct cross-section (2.5 mm² to 3.5 kW, power higher - 4 mm²);
    • the ceiling is shielded with a shield, the gap from it to the ceiling sheathing is at least 5 cm;
    • auto-shutdown function when the safe mode in the steam room is exceeded, example: normal heating +110° C, auto-shutdown at +130° C.

    Systems (AUP) and fire extinguishing means for commercial and public baths are mandatory According to table. SP. For private individual properties not in buildings regulated by fire safety regulations (on individual land plots, summer cottages) - at the discretion of the owner.

    Steam burn

    You can get such a burn if you put water into the heater incorrectly. A sharp stream of hot steam can burn you anything. Hand, body, head, face. To protect yourself from painful sensations, it is better to wear a bath mitt when applying the parka.

    And also do not splash a full ladle of water. The movement should be sharp and fast.

    When is a protective shield required?

    The sauna stove regulates the temperature and steam level in the steam room. The stove also produces strong infrared radiation in the steam room. It affects fire safety in general and the conduct of bathing procedures. The area around the stove has elevated temperatures. If you do not take care of the protective screen, overheating and fire of the wooden lining of the steam room may occur.

    Attention! Black, charred marks on the walls near the stove indicate a violation of fire safety rules when installing heating equipment.

    In accordance with fire safety requirements, the heater must be installed at a certain distance from walls and other surfaces. Often, such requirements complicate the building design. To avoid such problems, use screens for sauna stoves. They perform two functions:

    • prevent the occurrence of a fire hazard;
    • speed up the heating process of the oven.

    The last point is worth explaining in more detail. The main element that heats the room is steam. Thanks to the oven screen, it is possible to get it sooner than without it.

    Burn from hot objects

    The bathhouse is a kingdom of heat! Consequently, everything in the bathhouse gets quite hot. When they build a bathhouse, everything metal is “hidden” deep into the wood. And you must go to the bathhouse without metal jewelry.

    Most bath accessories are wooden. Have you ever wondered why?
