Linden baths for a suburban area: advantages of the material / Useful

Let's assume that the owner of the bathhouse has already made a choice in favor of hardwood for the interior lining of the bathhouse.
And here he is faced with the need to place a bet on one of the two most frequently offered materials with similar properties. You have to choose: lining for a bathhouse - aspen or linden? Is it possible to say which type of wood is best for a bathhouse? Well, the difference between them is really not too big . Nevertheless, we will try to define it more clearly, compare the real characteristics of one and the other breed, and the final decision, of course, is for the reader.

Linden. Why is it called the “bath tree”?

Perhaps the most important property of linden for us in the construction of baths is the porosity and lightness of this tree. After all, it is quite obvious to anyone more or less familiar with the basics of thermal conductivity that linden conducts heat much weaker than trees with dense and heavy wood, such as oak or beech. Having made a shelf from linden, you will never be able to get burned on it, even in a very hot bath. This shelf is “soft”, “affectionate” in feel, pleasant to the touch and easy to process. As for the walls, a steam room decorated with a linden slab is essentially a “thermos” - linden walls do not absorb heat and do not release it outside, thereby reducing heat loss.
But that's not all. The most important advantage of the linden tree, which makes it a bath tree, is the ability of the linden croaker to exude the most delicate honey aroma. And this feature of linden wood is preserved throughout its service for the benefit of humans. Conduct an experiment... Warm up the linden steam room to working condition and ask someone to pour plain water on the hot walls. Now enter the steam room and take a deep breath through your nose. You will feel an incredible honey spirit, a subtle aroma of something native, recorded at the genetic level. This is what a bathhouse with linden slab trim smells like. No other tree gives such an effect.

Advantages

Aspen wood has low thermal conductivity and almost does not crack; it lends itself well to various processing techniques, even bending. It can be easily polished and painted. The material is relatively light, attractive white, with fine fibers. Ease of processing is also associated with a minimal number of knots. If processed correctly, objects become strong and resist rotting very well.

The condition of patients with rheumatism, bronchial and pulmonary inflammation, even dysentery improves

It is important to remember that this cannot in any case replace full-fledged treatment, and any measures of this kind must be agreed with doctors

Preparation of linden croaker

Harvesting lime croaker is not an easy task. It would seem that it would be easier, cut the linden trunk into boards and finish the steam room as you want, but don’t rush - it’s not that simple. Linden is a special tree; it shrinks greatly when dried and has another feature - a predisposition to infection with blue mold. This fungal disease covers the board completely, growing inside and making it completely unsuitable for bathhouse construction. Therefore, you even need to be able to store linden, not to mention working with this tree. By the way, you noticed that on the linden slab installed in the bathhouse, there are places that seem poorly treated from the bark. So this is bast. Bast has protective and aesthetic functions in the bathhouse. A linden tree without a bast looks rather dull and monotonous. Therefore it is important! be able to remove the bark so that the bast remains on the log. It is worth noting that this is done only manually, with special tools, which somewhat justifies the rather high price of linden croaker. In order for the bast to hold up well, it is necessary to harvest only winter wood , since nature itself ensures that the tree is preserved and the sap flow in it is suspended. The high cost of the linden croaker is also facilitated by the small habitat of the linden - this tree has become a biosphere rarity in some regions. Appreciate the linden tree! Take care of her!

Linden steam room - highly valued among bath masters

Experienced bathhouse attendants know for sure that only a linden bathhouse can work for a long time and is easy. Linden honey aroma - makes breathing easier in the steam room. This is due to the fact that linden is an excellent humidity regulator . As soon as you turn on the heater, the lime croaker will immediately absorb excess steam and within two minutes completely balance the ratio of humidity and temperature. Since ancient times, this tree was revered by the Slavs as the “tree of health and happiness.” And in the linden bathhouse you can feel especially clearly how the linden tree takes away negativity and relieves depression. But this is not all fake “miracles”. Only in a linden bathhouse can a person be easily freed from negativity, but also quickly and easily filled with vitality, calmness and tranquility. Linden is a very “durable” tree in the sense that it remains “alive” even after 10 years . To make it clear to you, let’s say for comparison that aspen “lives” after being cut down for only 3 years. Throughout this life, the linden tree continues to carry a unique honey smell and bestows positive energy.

Finishing the steam room with a lime slab is the right decision!

1. The question of the “correctness” of the bath is being resolved. Since the linden tree will take on part of the tasks of regulating the atmosphere of the steam room. 2. With the help of a linden croaker, an amazing aesthetics of the steam room is created . The bast on the slab, the hanging threads of tow, the very shape of the slab - create the image of a log bathhouse and the “wild” pristine nature of the building, as well as the beauty of nature in the color scheme. With each soar, the appearance of the linden tree only becomes more noble and smoother. Ultimately, the linden finish takes on an antique value in its external characteristics. 3. Linden croaker does not require any further processing to maintain its appearance. This is an investment for many years to come with a guaranteed good result.

Classification

Like any lumber, the price of linden lining depends on the length of the lumber (the longer, the more expensive), the grade of wood (extra - the highest; 1st grade, A and B - middle classes, C - the lowest) and the thickness of the lining (than the thicker, the more expensive).

Let's figure out the length. Typically, linden lining is sold in lengths of 3 meters and 6 meters. A six-meter cube costs more than a three-meter cube. At some sawmills you can also find small-sized lumber. It's cheaper. Linden lining is found in the following sizes: up to 100 cm, from 100 to 170 cm, 180-190 cm, 200-300 cm. Since bathhouses and the rooms in them are usually small, buy expensive three and six meter planks, and then cut them - not the wisest decision. This is the very case when you can save money without sacrificing quality.

Linden lining: price depends on characteristics

Varieties and their characteristics

Lining made from “extra” grade linden should not have any defects: knots, stains, cracks or inhomogeneous inclusions. This material must have ideal geometry and processing. Of course, it costs a lot, but it’s nice to work and then look at the result of your work.

Extra grade - excellent material

Class A linden lining may have no more than 1 knot of small diameter (up to 3 mm) on an area of 1.5 m2, or one small crack, a small non-contrasting spot on the same area. Quite a high-quality material, and the presence of some “not ideal” even gives it a special charm: you can immediately see that it is wood, and not its imitation. This class is often called “grade 1”.

Characteristics on the face...

In class B there may be a certain number of knots with a diameter of up to 10 mm; changes in color of both the knots and the wood itself are allowed here (without the appearance of blue spots on the front side). Also a good choice for a moderate (for a linden) price.

Class C lining may have fallen knots and stains on the front part. This is the most budget option. Moreover, the presence of external defects does not mean poor quality: all material is processed equally, and is sorted at the exit depending on how many defects “hit” the bar. Some craftsmen can play up these very shortcomings in such a way that you are simply amazed.

Prices and sizes

The cost of linden lining depends not only on the type, but also on the thickness and width of the plank. The larger these parameters, the higher the price per cubic meter of lumber.

The thickness of the boards is chosen depending on the place of its use:

  • for interior work (lining the inside of the bathhouse), 14 mm thick strips are used;
  • for external ones no less than 25 mm.

To decorate a steam room, which rarely comes in large sizes, it is better to take narrow lining - with planks 70-90 mm wide. Narrow planks take longer to install, but visually they give the room more volume. Although, both the width and relief are selected based on personal tastes and preferences.

In terms of color, linden definitely wins. Anyway, still new

But we need to remember some “little things” that affect our perception: a narrow horizontal bar makes the room wider, a wide one “eats” the feeling of the height of the ceiling. In this sense, the diagonal arrangement of the planks is much more advantageous - it “moves apart” the walls, but there is much more waste with such finishing.

Profiles

The lining, in addition to its dimensions, may also differ in profile. Eurolining is primarily distinguished by this feature. It has a deeper tongue/groove and several grooves on the underside that run along the entire strip. Due to the fact that the groove is deeper, clamps can be used when lining the steam room and other rooms.

Ordinary lining with a small tenon can be torn out of its fastening in high humidity. But in this type of finishing material, a deeper groove provides this opportunity: you can take fasteners with a longer tongue, which will hold the planks more reliably. And since linden does not change its size much when humidity changes, this type of finish lasts better.

Two longitudinal grooves running along the strip on the reverse side contribute to better ventilation. And if we talk about standards, then eurolining has a rigidly specified width/thickness and all the parameters of the groove/tenon and grooves. Although there are many different variations that differ from this standard. If you like them better in appearance, choose them. Just watch the depth of the groove and the geometry of the material: the edges are clear and even, the tenon easily fits into the groove without cracks or gaps.

Linden eurolining: parameters

There are several other types of lining that differ in profile:

  • the block house has a rounded front part,
  • American - figured facade, thinner on one side,
  • “Softline” differs from “standard” in its rounded edges.

There is also a lining with two, three or four “waves” on the front side. Here it must be said that the more complex the profile, the naturally higher the price per cube of lumber.

Components of a good bath

To obtain good steam, which in the old days was also called “soluble air,” several components are important to us. First on this list is a convenient and fast stove-heater . Whatever one may say, this is the heart of the bathhouse, and you will have to “dance” from the stove in any case. Of course, you will make a decision on your own, but why not rely on the vast experience of those who have been operating private baths and bath clubs for many years? We recommend paying attention to the ParAvoz stove , it is also called the Steam Locomotive sauna stove or Dobrovolsky stove. The second component of a good bath is linden . It is the linden croaker that makes the bathhouse unique. It's like fingerprints - no two steam rooms are the same, even if they are made according to the same project. You read about other advantages above. The main thing in the bathhouse rightfully remains - Man . And everything here is done for his benefit and pleasure. Go for it!

Some features

Dimensions of wooden lining.
The length can vary quite a bit depending on the manufacturer. Here the values start from 0.5 m and end at 3 m. A wide variety of parameters leads to the fact that you can select the material to suit the size of almost any room.

Thus, it is possible to design a bathhouse or sauna building without focusing on the material. In addition, the type of wood in question is very beneficial for health. Its aroma, released when heated, helps with colds. And it’s just nice to be in such a room.

There are other types of wood that are excellent for finishing a bath. But there are also prohibited for use. These are coniferous trees. They will secrete resin (which can drip onto the human body) and emit a suffocating odor.

Such wood is usually used for the construction of residential buildings and courtyard buildings, where high temperatures are not expected.
