DIY bath clock: photo for inspiration

A clock for a bath and sauna is one of the most significant attributes

Currently, the bathhouse is used not only for healing, but also for a pleasant time with family or friends.
The very atmosphere that reigns there is conducive to relaxation, which is why time often passes unnoticed there. And since it is strictly forbidden to stay in the steam room for a long time, such a bath attribute as a clock is simply necessary in this room. They help control time, thereby protecting a person from heat stroke, and also perform a decorative function, giving the interior a unique completeness.

The photo shows a variety of watch models that occupy almost the first place in their importance among bath attributes.

What should a bath clock be like?

A photo of a clock with a thermometer and hygrometer is a very convenient option for a steam room (the price of such products is an order of magnitude higher than other models).

Ordinary room clocks cannot be used in baths and saunas, since the high levels of both humidity and temperature that are constantly present there will quickly render them unusable. In addition, if they are powered by batteries, then in such an environment they will oxidize, which will also contribute to the breakdown of the watch.

For these reasons, these devices are produced framed in a special moisture-heat-resistant case, which protects the internal mechanisms from corrosion. According to the principle of operation, they can be either electronic or mechanical.

There are also hourglasses that deserve special attention because they have many advantages. The advantages include the fact that they do not require winding or changing batteries, are more durable, and are more convenient to use.

Note! It is advisable not to install electronic clocks, even if they are intended for baths and saunas, in a steam room, since their circuitry, no matter what guarantees the manufacturers give, will not withstand the influence of constant humidity for a long time. It would be more appropriate to place such models in a dressing room or rest room.

Now there are many models designed for baths, which, by the way, can be combined with measuring instruments such as a hygrometer and thermometer. There are also table and wall clocks for baths or those that are installed on bath shelves.

A wall clock for a bath with a thermometer located in the steam room is an indispensable attribute, especially if there are children in the steam room.

In short, the market for bath accessories now offers a huge selection of different options with all kinds of designs. Depending on the complexity of execution, their price can be either very low or quite high.

All modern models are manufactured using special technology, the body of which is made mainly of wood and heat-resistant glass. The wood is necessarily treated with special protective solutions, due to which such watches can withstand both humidity and high temperatures.

In addition, wood in its appearance goes well with the sauna interior, so when choosing a clock for a steam room, you should pay special attention to its case. The accompanying instructions for such products, as a rule, should contain what it is made of.

If for some reason it is not possible to purchase a finished product, then you can make a clock for a bathhouse with your own hands. And if you also have artistic skill, then they will turn out to be very beautiful and exclusive, that is, in terms of appearance, they are no worse than a factory watch.

How to make your own bath clock

Note! Bath clocks made by yourself may not work accurately. In addition, such a product usually does not function for a long time. However, if at a certain moment a watch is simply necessary, but it is not possible to purchase one at this time, then such a homemade product will really help out for a certain period. In addition, hand-made watches allow you to turn any designer’s fantasy into reality.

Required tools and material

Cheap mechanism from a Chinese watch with hands.

In order to make your own bath clock, you don’t need any special tools or expensive materials. For this, improvised means available in every home are quite suitable.

So, this list includes the following tools and items with which you can make such a bath device:

  • log of the required diameter;
  • mechanism with hands from an old or inexpensive watch;
  • pencil, paints and varnish;
  • stencil for numbers;
  • ruler;
  • compass;
  • brushes;
  • saw;
  • chisel;
  • drill;
  • metal suspension;
  • sandpaper;
  • wood burner (for decoration).

Step-by-step manufacturing process

Once all the necessary supplies are prepared, you can begin making the watch.

This process includes the following steps:

  1. First, using a saw, a round timber of the required thickness is sawed off from a log. These parameters will depend on the size of the watch mechanism, since if the wooden blank is, for example, thinner, then it will not be possible to secure this element tightly, and this is a very important point for the watch to work as accurately as possible. When cutting, you need to make sure that the round timber is smooth and neat.

  1. Then a recess for the mechanism is made on the workpiece using a chisel. To make it more accurate, measurements and markings are made in advance. The mechanism must be placed in the hole in such a way that it does not protrude beyond the plane of the round timber that will be located against the wall. Otherwise, when the clock is hung, it will interfere and prevent it from standing up straight.
  2. Next, on the front side of the workpiece, you will need to determine the center point and use a drill to make a hole for the rod at the marked place, where the arrows will be attached in the future. In this case, the rod should protrude several millimeters on the plane of the round timber. This will allow you to tighten the nut, thereby securing the mechanism and hands.
  3. You will also need to immediately prepare a recess on the back side where the suspension will be attached.
  4. After this, the workpiece must be carefully processed with sandpaper so that it turns out perfectly smooth and even. The bark can be left or removed. This will depend on what design is chosen for the watch. If the edges of the round timber are processed, then the product can be given, for example, an octagonal shape.

The photo shows the order in which to assemble the watch.

  1. At the last stage, the dial is marked with a compass, numbers are applied, as well as the decoration of the watch and its assembly. For design, you can use pre-prepared stencils of numbers - this will make them more even and neat. The drawing can also be applied using them. Or, you can paint the clock by hand. Here everything will depend on the skills and taste preferences of the master himself. The product looks very impressive when the outline of a pre-applied design along the edges is first burned out with a special tool, and then its internal parts are painted over with paints. At the very end, the watch can be varnished or painted. This will give them a more finished look and protect the tree from damage.

Conclusion

It doesn’t matter what kind of clock will be present in your steam room, in any case, experts do not recommend ignoring this useful and beautiful bath attribute. Despite the fact that this thing at first glance may seem like a small insignificance, nevertheless, it is the hours in the bathhouse that can preserve a person’s health and protect him from tragedies. Accurate to the second: why is there a clock in the bathhouse?

How to choose a watch for a bathhouse?

Do you need a clock in a bathhouse ? Necessary - how else can you keep track of the time you spend in the steam room? But you need to control it: in order for the steam to be a joy and benefit your health, the time spent in the steam room must be clearly dosed. Doing this in a closed room without the help of measuring instruments is very difficult. To avoid overheating, we advise you to purchase a sauna watch .

If you can install a mechanical or electronic clock in the locker room or relaxation room, then for the steam room you need to look for another option: the circuit of the electronic clock will not withstand the long-term influence of the difference in the microclimate of the steam room. Choosing a watch for a steam room is a serious matter; ordinary watches intended for home use will not be suitable; they will become unusable too quickly under the influence of humidity and high temperatures: the batteries will oxidize, and rust will appear on the mechanism. Therefore, the classic hourglass is most often used there - a mechanism whose reliability has been tested not even for centuries, but for millennia.

Hourglass

For a steam room, you need a device with a moisture-resistant case that can withstand high temperatures and high humidity for a long time. The ideal option for a steam room is an hourglass. Models produced by Sawo or Bath items, made of heat-treated wood with a sealed glass bulb, will be a reliable companion in the steam room due to their simple design.

When making an hourglass for a bath, the wood for the case is treated with special impregnations, thanks to which they can withstand both high humidity and high temperature. Another plus is that such a clock fits perfectly into the overall interior of the bathhouse.

When choosing an hourglass, it is advisable to consider several points:

  • The color of the sand should contrast with the color of the watch case to make it easier to track the time spent in the sauna;
  • It is advisable to choose a sealed flask so that humidity does not affect the accuracy of measurements;
  • A model with a scale is more convenient to use - it allows you to count elapsed time more accurately;
  • Wood is the most reliable and convenient material for an hourglass case.

Waiting room clock

If electronic units are undesirable in the steam room itself, then in the locker room or relaxation room they will be just right. It makes no difference which model you choose: wall-mounted or tabletop, with or without additional measuring instruments, the clock will become not only a necessary device, but also a stylish part of the bathhouse decor.

Atelier Saun offers you Sawo models, the body of which is made of natural wood, and the German clock mechanism ensures reliable operation and accurate time determination. The wooden case harmonizes perfectly with the classic design of the Russian bathhouse, and the large numbers on the dial are easy to read from a great distance. Just remember: such mechanisms are intended exclusively for dry rooms. They cannot be brought into the steam room.

How to choose a clock for a bath

Due to the design features of a modern bath room, it should be noted that one of the most important accessories is a bath clock. Often, such devices are manufactured using special technologies, which allows the mechanism to fully function. The modern market offers a wide range of such bath accessories, so before choosing a watch for a bath, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the following information.

What should be the hours in the bathhouse?

As a rule, in a steam room it is quite difficult for a person to independently control time. This happens because the human body experiences a kind of shock. Thus, bath clocks will become more relevant than ever. So, how to choose the right attribute for a bathhouse, and which model should you prefer?

Ordinary indoor devices are not intended for use in a bathhouse or sauna. High humidity and temperature will quickly render such a mechanism unusable. Moreover, they operate exclusively on batteries, and such an environment will lead to their oxidation. In this regard, such mechanisms are produced framed in a moisture-resistant case, which can protect the mechanism from corrosion. Directly based on the principle of their operation, they can be either electronic or mechanical.

Important! Electronic clocks for a bath room are not recommended to be installed in a steam room, since their circuitry will not withstand prolonged exposure to humidity and high temperature. Therefore, it is preferable to place such models in the dressing room or rest room.

Also, today there is a fairly wide range of bath clocks, which can additionally be equipped with measuring instruments - a hygrometer and a thermometer. In addition, there are table-top and wall-mounted mechanisms. They are located on bath shelves. In a word, the bath accessories market offers the most unexpected design options for bath clocks. Depending on the complexity of the implementation, their prices also fluctuate.

The body of all modern models is made of wood and heat-resistant glass. Wood is treated with special impregnations and solutions. Therefore, such bath clocks can withstand both high humidity and high temperature at the same time. Moreover, in terms of its external characteristics, wood goes well with the bath interior, which in turn also needs to be taken into account.

Hourglass

Today, an hourglass for a bath is considered the best option. They are quite simple to use, reliable and do not contain unnecessary batteries, and also fit perfectly into the overall interior of the bathhouse. The simplicity of their production, as well as the adapted design for the steam room, made this mechanism a bestseller. However, there are some nuances that you need to remember when purchasing this attribute:

  1. The contrast of the color of the sand in relation to the color of the body of the product. This will allow the mechanism not to merge with the interior of the room;
  2. It is recommended to choose hourglasses for baths in sealed glass flasks. This will prevent the plug from getting wet, thus increasing the accuracy of the readings;
  3. It is recommended to give preference to a model in the form of a scale;
  4. The body of such a mechanism must withstand high temperatures without deforming. In this case, wood is considered the best material.

How to make a bath clock with your own hands

When starting to independently manufacture such a bath accessory as a watch, you should remember that this mechanism may not show the exact time. Moreover, such a product will not serve you for a long time. Next, we invite you to familiarize yourself with the step-by-step process of making them yourself:

  1. It is necessary to saw off a round timber of the required thickness from the log. Please note that these parameters will largely be determined by the dimensions of the future watch mechanism;
  2. After this, directly on the workpiece, make a recess for the mechanism with a chisel. In order to make it more accurate, it is recommended to complete all markings and measurements in advance. The mechanism must be placed in such a way that it does not extend beyond the round timber;
  3. On the front side of the workpiece, it is necessary to determine the center point and directly at the marked place make a hole for the rod, where the arrows will be attached. Please note that in this case, the rod should protrude a couple of millimeters on the plane of the round timber. This way, you can tighten the nut and secure the mechanism and hands;
  4. In addition, on the reverse side you should prepare a recess in which the suspension will be attached;
  5. Treat the workpiece with sandpaper to obtain a perfectly smooth and even surface;
  6. The last stage is marking the dial, applying numbers, decorating and assembling the clock for the bath. For design, pre-prepared stencils of numbers can be used - this way you can make them as even and clear as possible. Drawing can also be done with their help. In addition, the product can be painted yourself. In this case, everything will depend on the individual preferences of the master.

A bath clock will look great when the outline of the design along the edges is initially burned out, and then its internal elements are painted over with bath paints. And at the end of the work, the finished product can be coated with varnish or paint. This way, you will give the mechanism a more complete look, and also protect the wood from damage and rotting.

It doesn’t matter at all which clock you choose for the bath - electronic, mechanical or sand clock. In any case, you should not ignore this bath attribute, since it can add the finishing touch to the interior design of your bath.

Bath clock: time under control

Unbiased statistics, which, as we know, know everything, claim that accidents in the bathhouse associated with overheating occupy a sad championship, bypassing even incidents caused by the intoxication of visitors in the leadership race. This is bad and wrong. Therefore, the topic of today’s conversation will be such an extremely important tool - a bath clock. Time, like nothing else, must be under control.

Types of time recording devices

Humanity, throughout its civilizational history, knows many watch designs, but in all this diversity, we should be interested only in those that are simple, reliable, functional and can work accurately in difficult bath conditions. Let's look at the obvious advantages and disadvantages of the different types:

  • Solar products are one of the oldest solutions in the matter of time tracking. They are simple to the point of primitivism and, for the most part, consist of a vertical rod fixed in the middle of a properly marked area, acting as a dial. The time can be displayed correctly only when used in an open area and in bright sunlight. Naturally, the dial must be marked accurately and correctly, relative to your geographical location. It is unrealistic to use them in a bathhouse. Using such structures, it is theoretically possible to control the time spent in the steam room if it is equipped with a window, but in practice, it is extremely inconvenient. It should be taken into account that cloudy weather and darkness completely deprive such watches of their functionality;

A word from Experienced! The sundial, due to the fact that it is very easy to reproduce on any site, will become its real decoration and a worthy cherry on top in the form of landscape design of the territory adjacent to the bathhouse.

  • Water ones are also a fairly old and proven design, little susceptible to the influence of adverse environmental factors. Works great in the interior spaces of buildings and structures. But, due to the complexity of manufacturing, and the even higher precision of calibration, which ensures accurate operation over a long period of time, the task for their practical use, in most cases, is difficult to implement;
  • Mechanical watches are classics of the watch genre. This is a whole sea of various designs for every taste and different wallet thicknesses, from the works of Swiss masters of precision mechanics to the insanely charismatic watches of the domestic watch industry. The disadvantage of such products should be considered the greater susceptibility of the watch mechanism to the adverse effects of elevated temperatures, and especially high humidity;

Important! It is worth noting that, of course, there are mechanical structures made in a protected case, but their cost is several orders of magnitude higher than similar ones, but in a conventional design.

  • Quartz watches are, by and large, analogous to mechanical watches, but the main drive mechanisms are powered by electrical current sources, usually batteries. They are distinguished by increased precision and ease of adjustment, but at the same time, the issue of protecting the thin internal filling is as acute as for their purely mechanical relatives;
  • Electronic - devoid of moving mechanical parts such as pendulums, gears, counterweights and springs. All processes associated with timing occur as a result of the conversion of an electrical impulse by an electronic element base. Inexpensive, reliable and fairly accurate. The problem lies in the vulnerability of electronics to moisture and temperature and is solved by placing only sensors and an electronic display in the steam room. The entire intellectual unit can be painlessly moved to a room with a more comfortable microclimate;
  • The sand clock is an easy-to-use and reliable bath clock that completely covers the need for tracking the time spent in the steam room. They practically do not require periodic maintenance and are little affected by the aggressive environment of a steam room. However, such watches also have, if not global shortcomings, then at least weak points.

What to look for when choosing an hourglass

Based on the above, a sand clock for a bathhouse is the most optimal choice, based on the criterion: cost - reliability - functionality. Structurally, they consist of: a graduated body, which allows you to measure the time spent in a steam room in minutes, a glass flask of a peculiar shape with a calibrated hole that divides two compartments into equal volumes, and a turning mechanism. The design is simple and non-trivial, but when choosing a product there are a few things you should pay close attention to:

  • The graduation of the time scale should be clearly divided into segments that allow you to determine the time spent in the steam room;
  • The glass flask must be sealed, which will ensure tightness and, as a result, will eliminate the possibility of sand getting wet, caking and loss of performance;

Attention! Inexpensive and popular hourglasses, which have a flask closed with plugs, are not functional in a bathhouse and the possibility of their use is limited to rooms with a dry air environment.

  • A high-quality filler consists of dry fractionated quartz sand, the fineness modulus of which is very strictly regulated to obtain the most stable flowability readings;
  • The turning mechanism must clearly and reliably fix the flask in a strictly vertical plane;
  • The watch case must be made of environmentally friendly material that allows its use in the humid and hot microclimate of the bathhouse. If this unit is made of solid wood, then it must be properly treated with hydrophobic impregnations and heat stabilized.

Electronic watches - as a real alternative to other types

Electronics, despite a number of prejudices and outright stereotypes, is a reliable and functional time tracking tool. When choosing accessories for use in a bathhouse, you should pay special attention to the possibility of working in an unfavorable environment or the possibility of remote placement of various structural elements. Don't be fooled by the low price or beautiful appearance. You should always remember the old English rule: “We are not rich enough to buy cheap things.” At the same time, the electronics are very repairable. The whole question rests mainly on its cost. Like any other devices powered from a household electrical network, the clock must have the proper level of electrical safety, including that provided in the humid conditions of your bathhouse.

Conclusion

When choosing a clock for a bathhouse, you can show your imagination and settle on some very original solution, which, in addition to its main function, will create a certain charm and comfort in the interior of the bathhouse. If you have the skills of a carpenter and mechanic, then you can try to build a clock of an original design with your own hands. Fortunately, today there is no shortage of information or technology.

What to do with a broken watch: don’t throw away unnecessary things

Sometimes even things and objects that are out of fashion or out of order can be put to good use. For example, to the question: what to make from a broken watch - now there is definitely an answer.

Wristwatches with a dial can turn into exquisite toy cars.

Original home decor - please.

However, if you have a lot of watches, you can create unique items with a dial from them.

Kitchen decor is easy to make using arrows from former products that show the time.

A handmade decoration may appear in the living room.

Some craftsmen even create lamps from broken wristwatches.

And if you add other unnecessary things to the creative process, for example, records, then the house promises to sparkle with new notes.

Of course, the imagination of every creator can reveal itself in completely different things.

A clock in a bathhouse is a necessary and useful attribute

Hello, dear readers!

We all have a great idea of what time is. At some moments in life it flies headlong, and at other times it drags on, as if standing still. The saying: “for everything there is a time” quite deeply reflects the meaning of the words spoken. Since childhood, we learn to keep track of time and “catch up” with it.

A person’s most basic assistant in this matter is a watch. It doesn’t matter which ones: sand or electronic, solar or mechanical. The main thing is that everything is on time, accurately and on time. The bath theme is no exception to this. Yes, a clock in a bathhouse is an important and necessary device, especially for beginners. Why? More on this below...

From this article you will learn:

What are the clocks for and what are they used in the bathhouse?

When going to the steam room, a person has little control over his time spent in it. This happens because our body experiences a kind of shock. A bathhouse cannot be called normal conditions for ordinary life. Some try to leave early, thinking that they have stayed too long. Others, on the contrary, think that they haven’t sweated enough and need more. Of course, everything here is individual for everyone: some people steam for 20 minutes, while for others five is enough.

Children, pregnant women, as well as elderly people especially need to control the time periods spent in the steam room. A watch in the bathhouse would be very appropriate here. They will help make your stay in the steam room not only enjoyable, but also healthy. Too long bath procedures can negatively affect the general condition of the body. And instead of health, you can only get harm.

Of course, experienced bathhouse attendants do not need as much control as newcomers. They already clearly know all the capabilities of their body and completely trust their feelings. It is very important to learn to understand the call signs of your body well and never go too far.

So, what is the best watch to use in a bathhouse, or more precisely, in a steam room? Practice shows that the best option is an hourglass. They are simple and reliable, they do not need to be started, do not require batteries, and fit perfectly into a wooden interior.

It will be a big plus if:

  • The sand in the watch has a great color contrast compared to the steam room (it is clearly visible).
  • The bath hourglass has a rotating wall mount and does not stand on the floor or window.
  • The watch case is made of wood, the color of which is similar to the interior.
  • Glass flasks are sealed on both sides and have no stoppers.
  • The watch has a minute scale.

The cost of such an “ancient invention of mankind” is quite acceptable. The cheapest options can be found for 200 – 300 rubles, but there are more expensive and more impressive ones, for example, here. Of course, if the bath clock is exclusively finished and exotic materials are used, then you won’t have to count on such a cost. As always, the choice is yours.

In addition to sand specimens, there are also electronic watches. The steam room contains only a temperature sensor and a display. All the filling is located outside it. High humidity and high temperature have a detrimental effect on such “mechanisms”. Therefore, sand is the ideal choice. Everything ingenious is simple.

How to make a bathhouse clock with your own hands

All folk craftsmen and craftsmen are accustomed to doing everything on their own. Bath clocks are also a good theme for creativity. More precisely, not for a bathhouse, but for a rest room. After all, the environment there is not as aggressive as in a steam room. This means you can use a regular clock mechanism.

The cheapest and most accessible way to make a clock for a bathhouse is the following: We buy an electronic clock mechanism (quartz), find a piece of plywood, decide on the design and select the decor. In general, everything is simple with decor: any household items or natural materials (spoons, sticks, leaves...) will do. The main thing is to have a creative approach.

Next, we drill through the plywood, attach the clock mechanism with arrows to it, and decorate the resulting dial. This is best done for the interior of a rest room or dressing room. Inscriptions on the theme of the bathhouse will not be superfluous at all. They can be made with a simple electric burner. In general, your imagination and hands must work, then everything will work out.

A handmade bathhouse clock always looks better and more elegant than one bought in a store. Moreover, you feel a sense of pride and satisfaction that you did it yourself. Although, modern technologies can also be used. The video below is about this.
