Which materials to choose?
Effective drapery of bedroom windows depends on how well the tulle material is chosen. It can be organza, chiffon, satin, voile, mesh fabric or a combination of several types of lightweight drapery. In any of the options, tulle in the bedroom interior should look organic.
In addition, when choosing curtains, it is important to consider functionality. It is also important whether only one weightless curtain will be used for the entire window or paired with more impressive curtains. You should take into account both the height of the ceiling and the size of the room.
Why should you choose thick tulle for a small bedroom?
Thick tulle is an ideal solution for a room that is illuminated by sunlight most of the day. However, it also has a number of other useful properties that must be taken into account when choosing:
- Thick tulle can reduce the brightness of penetrating sunlight, which can irritate the wearer and create glare on reflective surfaces;
- Using thick tulle curtains in the bedroom interior will help protect its owner from prying eyes in the evening, when you have to turn on the interior lighting. Thin tulle, unfortunately, is incapable of this, since with its help you can only partially disguise the room.
- Dense tulle, in addition to everything else, is also an original element of the interior. If you use it together with thick curtains that hang from the ceiling to the floor, the result can be a very interesting ensemble that will help you focus on the interior decoration of the bedroom.
- Thick tulle in dark shades is the most optimal solution for owners who constantly experience irritation and discomfort from sunlight.
Organza curtain
This tulle can be hung in the bedroom without curtains. Organza holds its shape perfectly, drapes the window perfectly, protecting it from excess light and, in the dark, from prying eyes. These curtains are produced using modern technologies from natural materials such as silk, cotton, with the addition of polyester. It makes the fabric more pliable; due to this synthetic additive, the tulle does not wrinkle and washes well.
Style matters
Modern designers recommend choosing different curtain designs to personalize your bedroom.
Here, for example, is the “classic” version, or as it is also called traditional. Its basis is thick, heavy curtains hanging along the edges of the windows, and the entire center is filled with weightless tulle. During the daytime, the bedroom curtains elegantly outline the window, and at night they close off the outside world. This option is very popular among the average person.
The option of “Roman blinds” cannot be ignored. It's like a blind. A dense, smooth canvas covers the window up to the windowsill. Adjustment is carried out using a special cord attached to the slats on the inside of the curtain, by pulling or releasing.
The French curtain option is most often found in a theater or concert hall. Light, airy fabrics are ideal for it. They can be chosen to create an interior in the living room. However, if you decorate with a high-quality and original lambrequin or use tulle, the bedroom will take on the appearance of a palace chamber.
Voile curtain
It is very soft, smooth and transparent. Due to the properties of transparency, it is advisable to pair such tulle with curtains that reliably drape the windows. The veil perfectly transmits and optimally diffuses light, but if you need to sleep during the day, reliable curtains will protect you from the sun.
However, in rooms that are located on the shady side of the house and when there is a lack of daylight, it is better to use light voile curtains without adding curtains or heavy drapes.
Net
This is a relatively new idea for window decoration. It is often used in kitchen spaces. However, if you need curtains and tulle for the bedroom, mesh is an excellent solution as a curtain. The material is practical and very functional, durable. It can even be washed using strong bleaching agents. The mesh fabric is not deformed. In addition, the mesh creates an interesting design solution in window drapery. It looks unusual, which makes it unique.
Advantages and disadvantages
Cotton fabrics quickly fade, fade and lose color in the sun. Silk is also impractical. Like cotton fabric, it quickly loses its brightness, which is why additional protective equipment is required.
A curtain made of taffeta will do an excellent job of reflecting light, and curtains made from this fabric are superbly washable.
Lovers of natural materials should pay attention to linen. These days it is extremely difficult to find linen fabrics without any additives. In textiles, linen is produced with additives that only improve it, giving it airiness and shine.
A favorite option for window design by modern designers is considered to be a combination of colors and textures in fabrics when making curtains, as well as tulle that fills the space between the canvases. In their opinion, curtains and tulle should correspond to the season outside the window. So, for example, in the warm season the choice should be made on airy materials. During the cold season, curtains made of thick fabrics are more suitable. We will not insist on changing curtains seasonally. For yourself, you may well think of some universal option.

Rain tulle is made from denser fabric than previous options. Moreover, it is advisable to wash the curtain on a gentle cycle in a machine, or by hand.
Double tulle
It is permissible to combine 2 or 3 types of curtains at once. This needs to be done wisely, carefully selecting materials and colors. Designers recommend choosing double curtains, combining light and matte dark translucent tulle.
Short or long
The first option is more practical because it gives free access to the window and sill. This is important when there is a cat in the house. The windowsill is a favorite place for the furry family member.
To prevent the animal from damaging the curtain fabric, it is worth considering the option of short tulle. A long curtain looks more impressive and is more suitable for large bedrooms, even if the fabric of such a curtain is light and flowing.
Basic ways to attach curtains in the bedroom
An important point that contributes to the convenient use of curtains in the bedroom and increases their overall level of decorativeness is the fastening. Uneven folds, sagging parts, the need to pull and move the canvas, making additional efforts, contribute to a decrease in the level of comfort and aesthetics. There are several ways to attach curtains to curtain rods. Let's look at the most commonly used fixation methods.
To attach curtains with drawstrings, it is better to use curtain rods made of wood or plastic
Using ties. They are sewn to the top edge of the curtains and can be made not only from the main fabric, but also from ribbons, braid, etc. The ties are used both short, that is, providing the girth of the cornice and a knot, and long. The latter make it easy to adjust the length of the curtains, and bows add romance and sentimentality to the room. Ties are convenient for securing short curtains in the bedroom. This method of fastening visually increases the height of the window opening.
Using grommets. Eyelet rings are inserted into the upper part of the canvases, and a round cornice is threaded through the resulting holes. This type of fastening is more suitable for dense fabrics. Curtains with eyelets look very aesthetically pleasing, since the curtains have smooth and uniform folds.
Threading through the drawstring. This method of fastening is used for curtains made of soft and loose fabrics. Having made a small indentation (10-12 cm) from the top edge, a strip of fabric is sewn on the inside. A cornice is threaded into the resulting pocket. The resulting drawstring decorates the curtains. Warehouses with this method of hanging are light and pleasant.
The easiest way to attach curtains with rings and clothespins
On rings and clothespins. The simplest option. The curtains are secured with clothespins attached to the rings of the curtain rod. This mount is very suitable for curtains in a bedroom with a balcony. You can very easily pull back the curtain to easily open the balcony door.
Using curtain tape and cord. A ribbon is sewn to the upper edge of the curtain, into which the cord is threaded. Then the canvas is pulled together using a cord selected to fit the cornice. Many small air folds are formed. The curtain is fixed to the cornice by putting a cord on the hooks of the cornice.
When choosing a fastening, the density of the fabric is of great importance. As a universal option, you can only use rings and clothespins.
Color solutions
The most common option is the vibrant white tulle tone, which matches all curtains and window draperies without exception. However, designers in 2021 advise experimenting.

Take measurements
Before you sew yourself or order curtains from a specialist, carefully take measurements from the window with a measuring tape. Ideally, measurements are taken after installing the cornice.

In the case of installing a wall curtain rod, wider curtains, there will be a distance between the extreme fasteners. At the same time, make an allowance for the fold of tens of centimeters. The allowance depends on the chosen curtain model.
To sew tulle, you need to take two or even three window widths, it all depends on the fabric. Length is the distance from the eaves to the floor.
When mounting cornices on the ceiling, measurements are taken similarly to the option described above. The only difference will be that the length is measured from the ceiling.
