History of the origin of tulle
Openwork lace fabric tulle appeared in France in the 15th century. It got its name in honor of the city of Tulle, where it was first invented by local weavers.
For the sake of his chosen one, who expressed a desire to be unidentified at the wedding, the French king issued a decree on the invention of an unusual fabric. The king's requirement was to make such material that, covering himself with it, he would be unrecognizable, but still see everything. Weavers from the city of Tul coped with the task.
The new manufactory pleased the king and his wife. At that time, the fabric was made by hand and was more like lace. It was not easy to purchase it, and only in the houses of the rich they used tulle to decorate their homes.
Tables were covered with tulle fabric; chests were later used as window curtains. Fabric began to be widely used in the 19th century. Tulle was used as a veil for the bride at a wedding, to decorate dresses.
How to sew a curtain arch with your own hands
To sew an arch for the kitchen with your own hands, you will need a piece of suitable fabric about 100 cm wide (of course, here you need to take into account the dimensions of the window opening).
We give preference to loose, soft fabric with additives in the form of synthetic fibers.
After the fabric is selected, a pattern is made. We offer you excellent instructions and a drawing from the second issue of the Soviet magazine “Peasant Woman” back in 1983. This pattern and master class are still relevant today, because really everything new is just forgotten old.
- The cut is folded in half.
- The width of the window is measured and the resulting value is divided by three.
- A semicircle is drawn from the highest point on the fold so that its radius corresponds to a third of the width of the window.
- A semicircle is cut out.
- The cut line is aligned to a straight line.
- The edge is processed and curtain tape or Velcro is sewn on - this completes the design of the top edge of the curtain.
- You need to determine the length of the curtain. To do this, the height of the window is multiplied by 2, after which two radii (measured earlier) are added to it. The resulting value is the length of the product from the window sill to the cornice; your pattern must take it into account.
Attention! If the uniformity of the ends of the product is important, then the canvas is folded again. Where the edges meet, 250 mm upward is marked - and the detected point is connected to the lower edge of the fold. You will get a diagonal connecting the ends of the product folded in half - it is along this diagonal that the edge is cut off.
- The finished product is unrolled, after which fringe, braid or other suitable decor is sewn onto it with your own hands.

Composition of tulle fabric
With the improvement of technology, tulle from handmade lace fabric began to gradually transform into a light and airy fabric made from factories. At first, tulle fabric was made from simple threads of natural origin, then silk and synthetic fibers began to be added. A saline solution will help remove the yellowness of the tulle. Soak washed curtains in a warm saline solution for 2 hours, then rinse. It is not recommended to place heating devices near a window with tulle curtains due to their easy flammability.

- Wavy bottom;
- Wide patterned border;
- Raising the bottom with light folds (like an awning curtain);
