Varieties of Greek style curtains
Greek style is laconic and elegant. All types of Greek curtain designs can transform the interior, giving the room design style and chic.
Classic
In the classic version, the curtain should be decorated with Greek patterns, running horizontally or vertically. A good option is curtains with eyelets. They look impressive even without the addition of curtains.
Classic curtains can be additionally equipped with tiebacks with Greek ornaments and lambrequins. A cord or braid of a contrasting color with respect to the main color can be placed along the edge of the canvas.
Advice! It is acceptable to use a thin curtain in tandem with a curtain.
Roman
Such curtains are rectangular panels of material. When raised, they form horizontal folds that slightly overlap each other.
Greco-Roman
Such curtains are fixed to the cornice. Their adjustment is carried out using a cord located on the side.
Rolled
A roller blind is a flat canvas that, when folded, is wound onto a shaft fixed at the top of the window. When unfolded, such a curtain covers the window opening.
Blinds
Greek blinds are made from natural materials:
- wood;
- bamboo;
- matting.
For your information! They are sun resistant and durable.
Curtains
Thick curtains and drapes are made from heavy fabrics. They have complex draperies and are secured with tiebacks.
Application
Blinds and shutters are often used in Greece to protect against hot heat. For curtains, linen, thick jute or bleached cotton are used.
For each room you should choose your own style and color of curtains.
Designers often use two opposite shades in their solutions to effectively decorate window openings in residential premises, as well as in large halls where holidays and events are held to add solemnity and luxury.
The advantage of curtains in the Greek style
No wonder they are very popular among buyers. After all, such curtains have many advantages. Let's look at them:
Wide variety of colors and drapery. Only natural fabrics are used for sewing. Exquisite appearance. Additional decorations, such as laces.
Often these types of curtains are made from cotton. It breathes, is not very bulky in appearance, and a large number of shades allows you to choose curtains specifically for your room design.
As a rule, curtains in the Greek style are a seasonal option. It is better to use them in the warm season, and in winter or autumn it is better to change them.
Correctly bringing in curtains and complementing the overall look is not so easy; you just need to follow a few rules.
Bedroom
Any curtains must “breathe” and protect the room from the sun. Cotton and bleached linen are especially popular.
Many people use heavy curtains to enhance their protective functions. Double-sided curtains and curtains in the Greek style, where the sides have contrasting colors, look impressive.
Gold and black shades look very elegant in one curtain. The inside should be black, and when secured in the morning with beautiful pompoms, a golden window frame.
The black color will provide protection from the sun's rays, and the gold color will be for aesthetics. It is possible to deviate from the style and add light light curtains.

Greek curtains for different interiors
Depending on the purpose of the room, window design options in the Mediterranean style may vary.
Living room
To create curtains, cloth and wool are most often used, and in some cases, burlap. Traditionally, the large window openings of the hall are decorated with symmetrical canvases with neatly laid folds. Plastic elements or strips of fabric are used for fixation.
Large windows are decorated with symmetrical curtains with neat fixed folds.
The “cherry on the cake” is the lambrequin, which gives a finished look to the entire structure. The lambrequin itself is often created from re-folds of lightweight fabric. Thanks to this, even a multilayer structure does not look too bulky and heavy; on the contrary, the room is filled with lightness. Also, roller blinds or bamboo blinds are often used for living rooms.
Curtains in the living room can be decorated with lambrequins to complete the interior.
Kitchen
This is a multifunctional space, so it is not surprising that they prefer to use Greco-Roman curtains here, sometimes resorting to roller blinds. The priority is a light palette: pastel, beige, sand shades. The kitchen is perhaps the only room that can “put up with” the lack of geometry in Greek curtains; floral patterns are also allowed.
You can hang roller blinds in sandy shades in the kitchen.
If desired, lambrequins and cords or tiebacks can also be used on kitchen curtains. In some cases, classic Greek curtains also look appropriate. Especially in a situation where the dining group is located near the window.
Classic curtains with floral patterns are also allowed in the kitchen.
Bedroom
The main task of curtains in the bedroom is to provide complete rest, reliably protecting from excess sunlight and other lighting, as well as from prying eyes. On the other hand, there should be good air circulation in the rest room. Dense natural fabrics (for example, linen or cotton) are relevant. A lightweight design, without unnecessary decoration and multi-layering, is more suitable here.
Thick curtains without excessive decor are suitable for the bedroom.
It's better to be away from the lambrequin. But classic curtains that slide to the sides will come in handy. A worthy option for the bedroom would be double-sided curtains in contrasting colors. For example, one color is black, the second is gold, and when choosing a design, take a closer look at the Greco-Roman curtains. The main advantage of double-sided curtains is 100% protection from light.
Children's
Since safety is the main thing that attention is paid to when decorating a children's room, Greek curtains are considered an ideal option, as they are made from natural materials. Most often, preference is given to roll designs with floral patterns. Such models reliably protect from light, and also look impressive and harmoniously complement the overall design of the room.
Other premises
Greek curtains are used to decorate not only residential buildings. They are in demand in restaurants, cafes, shops and hotels (especially seaside ones).
Kitchen
Roman or roller blinds are suitable here, although the assembly of the beautiful folds is slightly modified. Roman curtains are assembled with the cords up, and Greek curtains for the kitchen - on the side.
The rectangular canvas is fixed to the frame, as well as to the cornice. The strong cord makes it easy to untwist. Caring for the fabric is easy.
Curtains with ornaments are considered classics, pastel, sand or cream colors. Geometric patterns or floral motifs should not irritate the eyes. Lambrequins and other decor will fit perfectly into the Greek style.
DIY Greek curtains
As already mentioned, making Greek curtains with your own hands is not at all as difficult as it might seem at first glance. Here is an example of making roller blinds.
- We start with measurements. Roller blinds should be 3-4 cm wider than the window opening, and 9-10 cm longer than it. Don't forget to add seams.
- Using the measurements obtained, we cut out two canvases.
- We sew both parts on three sides, leaving one side for turning the curtain inside out. After this, we sew the entire fabric and leave a small pocket in the upper part on the wrong side - this will be needed for fastening.
- We screw the rings of screws into the upper pocket.
- For roller blinds we make (purchase) cords: one is 3 times longer in length, the second is 3.5 times longer.
- The cords are attached to screwed rings. The one that is longer is passed to the first ring. Next, the cords are drawn along the wrong side of the fabric. To fix the structure, another ring is screwed in at the bottom.
To create roller blinds, you need to cut out and sew two fabrics together.
If you cannot sew curtains yourself, and ready-made options in stores do not suit you, contact a tailor.
Although curtains with Greek patterns are considered an integral part of the Mediterranean style, this does not mean that they cannot be used to decorate rooms in other regions. Ease of operation, long service life, spectacular appearance and functionality - these are just a few arguments in favor of purchasing or ordering Greek curtains for different rooms.
Hall (living room)
The material for the rest room is wool, thick cloth, etc. The Greek style dictates simple, clear lines. Deep, uniform folds are welcome. You can insert plastic clips to add depth and volume. Let's figure out how to make a Greek curtain.

To emphasize chic, you can alternate swags and frills. The capes are beautiful, decorated with ruffles at the edges. It is better to make such a lambrequin from a translucent material for greater effectiveness. It is better to secure it to the cornice with hairpins.
Another design method is bamboo blinds or matting.

The combination of black and white stripes will create an association with an antique colonnade and will visually add height to the room.
Fabric selection: shades and materials
Mediterranean style is warm and pleasing to the eye. The harmony of the interior is emphasized by the stylishness of the curtains and their color unity with the design of the room. Curtains in the Greek style should not be colorful. The optimal choice would be two-color or plain fabric.
Among the prevailing colors, shades characteristic of the Mediterranean coast can be noted:
- pastel delicate shades;
- blue in all shades;
- ocher;
- clay color;
- olive;
- black;
- white.
There cannot be multi-colored curtains in the Greek style. When combining shades, it is advisable to emphasize contrast. In addition to a certain color scheme, the Greek style has a peculiarity in the ornaments used.
The most common ones include:
- Cretan wave - smooth lines with a repeating rhythm;
- palmettes – stylized drawings of palm branches;
- plant patterns;
- images of the gods of Olympus;
- drawings of antique columns;
- images of Greek vases;
- meander is a characteristic broken line with right angles, which is used to design a vertical or horizontal edge.
For your information! For each room, curtains are selected separately, taking into account the overall color scheme.
