Options for beautiful interior design of an apartment with an aquarium

Aquarium in the kitchen

This decor option is considered an excellent decoration for a living space. The accent looks mysterious and contrasting, enlivening the most boring interior solutions. An aquarium adds dynamics to the setting, because the creatures living in it are always in motion. In addition, an aquarium can create an atmosphere of calm and tranquility. Watching its inhabitants, people forget about their own problems, calm down, and again find harmony with the world around them.

Aquarium without fish ↑

Placing an aquarium without fish in the kitchen seems simple: no fish, no problem. There may be no problems, but there are some rules. An aquarium is an ecosystem (size does not matter). The plants in it depend on fish. The main difference between a planted aquarium and a species aquarium is the substrate. As such, they use mineral wool (exclusively special! ordinary construction material is hydrophobic and impregnated with all sorts of nasty things) or soil with high CEC (cation exchange capacity). The substrate absorbs nutrients and releases them as needed. To do this, you need good water circulation - a pump is placed at the bottom of the aquarium (an excellent option is HYDOR Ekip with a thermostat and aerator. Fertilizers are added directly to the water - the substrate, due to its high CEC, itself attracts the elements.

The conditions in an aquarium with plants are similar to the conditions in a species aquarium, but the dose of the nitrogen-phosphorus solution should be higher: with sufficient light and carbon dioxide, the plants begin to grow quickly, but there are no fish and there is no one to supply the substances; growth slows down, under stress, plants begin to release nitrogen and phosphorus, which algae immediately takes advantage of, growing excessively and taking over the entire space. To avoid such a fiasco, phosphates and nitrates are regularly added. Excess substances (if any are formed when consumption is reduced) are removed during the water change process.

The ratio of substances is Buddy's proportion. If this is followed, the possibility of algae appearing is minimal. If the ratio drops below 15, blue-green algae have a feast; if it goes above 30, filament algae attacks.

Change the water at the same frequency as in a species aquarium - from 30 to 50% once a week. Microelements are added to the hard one daily, and to the soft one three times a week. Plants are trimmed regularly. It is better to keep them in separate pots - it is easier to move and care for them. Place a shelf with holes under the pots.

Illumination depends on the volume of the container and plants - when purchasing residents for an aquarium, get advice from the seller. The most light-loving plant must be provided - the number of lamps is calculated based on it. Sufficient light and CO2 supply are determined simply: turn on the lamps, start the equipment and wait a couple of hours - air bubbles should appear on the leaves. The duration of daylight hours depends on the type of lamps used: fluorescent - 10 hours, MH-HQI - 6–8 hours.

This is basic information. There are many subtleties - you will have to find out if you reject the option with artificial filling. We gave about 1/25th of it.

Decor

Arranging and decorating a corner container is a relatively simple procedure. And if you follow certain principles, then even an inexperienced aquarist can cope with the process.

  1. The substrate, algae and vegetation are selected taking into account what phenotypes and mollusks will be settled in the tank.
  2. Determination and maintenance of aquarium water parameters. In order for fish and shellfish to feel comfortable, develop and reproduce, the condition of the water must be carefully monitored. Using special equipment, acidity, density and hardness are periodically measured.
  3. Installation of a mechanical (internal or external) filter, aerator. The frequency of replacing (cleaning) the mechanical filter is set individually.
  4. Heating equipment. It is necessary to maintain the specified temperature.
  5. Lighting equipment. Fluorescent lamps are suitable for corner aquariums. When determining the power level, the characteristics of fish and vegetation are taken into account. Some phenotypes require long periods of daylight.

When designing a corner tank, the characteristic features of the phenotypes and the need for shelter or free space are taken into account. Some types of fish need oxygen. Therefore, there is a need to install additional equipment.

If you choose the right corner aquarium, you can make the interior more interesting and attractive. Among the variety of designs, every aquarist will be able to choose the option that suits all parameters. Only by correctly selecting, installing and designing a corner aquarium can you get rid of the problems associated with breeding fish and shellfish.

How to choose a corner aquarium?

The design of the corner aquarium is different. Two main models are presented:

  • Containers with convex glass. They are suitable for installation in a dark place. After all, panoramic glass distorts the size of vegetation, shellfish and fish. When rays of light hit, glare occurs.
  • Tanks with straight glass. When selecting such an aquarium, one takes into account how wide the edges are. To get maximum visibility, edges should have a minimum width.

Cabinet

When choosing a corner aquarium with a cabinet, you determine not only the tank that has suitable characteristics. A stand with the required parameters is also selected for the container.

A corner-shaped stand will fit perfectly into the interior. Its use helps to save space and ease of use. A custom-made cabinet is also suitable for corner containers. In this case, drawings are prepared and measurements are taken.

In order to select furniture for a container with fish, the optimal size is determined:

  • Small-sized products. They are designed to accommodate tanks whose volume does not exceed 100 liters.
  • Medium-sized products. Containers with a volume of 120–130 liters are installed on such a stand. The length of such furniture reaches 80 cm.
  • Large items. They are used if the volume of the aquarium reaches 240–300 liters. Before installing the tank, the stand is checked. If the strength level is low, then over time the cabinet will collapse.

A variety of materials and elements are used to prepare the stand. When selecting raw materials, it is worth considering not only the design of the corner aquarium, but also the degree of moisture resistance. The main materials used for these purposes:

  • Wood. The cost of products made from such raw materials is quite high. Therefore, aquarists buy them infrequently. In addition, wooden stands are periodically treated with protective compounds in order to reduce the harmful effects of moisture.
  • MDF or chipboard. Models made from this material are distinguished by their optimal cost. They are complemented by shelves, doors, and other elements. Such stands should not be used for panoramic tanks.
  • Metal. The metal structure is considered reliable and durable. Aquariums with a volume exceeding 300 liters are placed on a metal stand.

The stands differ not only in size, material, but also in configuration. Some manufacturers provide the opportunity to select the optimal number of shelves, decorative elements, and accessories. When choosing a cabinet, it is important to take into account the design of the corner aquarium.

Aquarium in the kitchen: beautifully blending the decor into the overall interior

As a rule, the living room is reserved for placing the aquarium. Occasionally he is met in another room. Many will be surprised to find a container in the bathroom or behind the head of the bed. It turns out that its presence is possible even in the kitchen! An excellent alternative solution to TV that does not spoil your appetite with unpleasant news and boring melodramas. The special thing is that you don’t get tired of looking at the aquarium; this piece of another world really captivates you.

An aquarium here, naturally, is considered an unexpected item, but if you like this decor option, you will always make it a reality.

There are various ways to use the container in the overall decoration. The most convenient option is a headset built into the wall or integrated into the structure. The island, the basis of which is a large aquarium, looks great. If there is a bar, this decorative element is built into the base of the counter or installed in such a way as to create a background.

Placement and design of a corner aquarium

Plants and fish are selected by the owner at his own discretion. Limitations in the choice of fish arise only due to the volume of the tank. It is necessary to accurately calculate the possible number of fish by volume. This is easy to do - just leave 2-4 liters of water for each fish.

The design of the corner aquarium is selected according to the style of the room. A background film is attached to the back wall, which depicts the water world, plants, and stones. It is better to take a neutral background that will not stand out from the overall design of the room. Aquarists recommend making a dark general background; it will make a small body of water visually deeper.

The side walls are covered with film or left untouched, then tall plants are planted on the sides or decor is installed. Equipment in a corner tank is placed in the far corner.

For a corner pond you will need a heater, an aerator, a filter, lighting fixtures, and a thermometer. It is better to attach the thermometer closer so that you can always easily monitor the water temperature.

It is recommended to lay out the soil in a corner container in a heap. In the frontal zone, the thickness of the soil should be minimal, and in the farthest corner a high slide should be built. By arranging the soil with a slide, you can visually level the depth of the aquarium.

Plants are planted in the tank according to the same rule: large, tall plants are planted in the far corner, and short ones are brought to the foreground. Tall plants in the background will hide all the equipment.

Before choosing a corner to install the aquarium, you should make sure that there is an outlet nearby. All equipment in the aquarium is powered by electricity. You should not place the aquarium next to equipment that creates noise, a microwave oven, or heating elements. Keep the aquarium out of direct sunlight and drafts.

Original: drink coffee and look at fish

The modern interior is dynamic and interesting. A coffee table with a built-in aquarium is something new and original. It can be of any size - for small and spacious rooms. The table will become the highlight of the interior, certainly attracting attention, especially since, thanks to the imagination of designers, it can take on various shapes: square, rectangular, oval.

The tabletop of the aquarium table should be made of glass

Beautiful table in the form of a round aquarium

Tempered glass is usually chosen as the material for the tabletop; it is durable and can be easily removed for maintenance. A technological hole is provided for feeding the fish. Additional equipment is placed in the table frame and bottom relief. It's nice to sit and have a friendly conversation, put a cup of coffee on the glass and watch the colorful living inhabitants of the aquarium, the play of light and shadow in the water. Decorative elements: boats, pebbles, grottoes make the underwater landscape especially attractive; the design of a room with an aquarium is always advantageous. For the coffee table choose unpretentious guppies, neons, cockerels and goldfish. They will not fulfill your wish, but they will definitely become an adornment of a small water kingdom.

Advantages and disadvantages

Tanks at an angle are made of durable glass with aluminum frames. Modern technologies enable manufacturers to produce corner tanks of unusual shapes. They can be in the shape of a hemisphere or trapezoid. The hemispherical tank looks stylish and unusual. The curved shape creates the illusion of large volume; the fish in such a tank appear larger. It is recommended to place hemispherical tanks in darkened corners of the room, as they glare from light.

The weakest point of a corner tank is the far seam, which is not visible in a filled reservoir. Due to high pressure, the seam may leak, which cannot be immediately determined. Before installation, it is recommended to carefully check the seams for leaks.

Advantages:

  • fits well into any room interior;
  • does not take up free space in the room;
  • gives the room coziness;
  • fits in a small apartment.

Corner aquariums are placed on a special cabinet, strong shelf or table in the corner.

Types of aquariums

They are divided into two groups:

  • a separate aquarium. It is portable and easy to maintain; it can be placed on the floor or on a stand. It has different shapes, the curvature of the glass walls follows the curves of the wall surface or furniture;

  • built-in aquarium. It often becomes part of a partition structure, mounted in a niche or in furniture. Its depth does not exceed thirty-five centimeters, the length can be different, up to three meters. Sometimes the fish are not stocked, and the container is decorated with pebbles, shells, etc. The aquarium does not require special care, but it looks good.

Aquarium in the kitchen: giving yourself a lot of positive emotions!

Aquarium in the kitchen interior? Why not? Let's cultivate the monotonous design, which has set the teeth on edge with standard forms: a refrigerator, a stove (oh! - how tired of it), a sink... and all the time we are cooking, frying, steaming something...

And when the eye clings to the beautiful sea perfection, like a ray of sunlight, Mr. Positive modestly makes its way into the heart! Place an aquarium in the kitchen and see for yourself, and our furniture website vdizayne.ru tried to select for you beautiful ideas for photo aquariums so that you have plenty to choose from.

On the one hand, an aquarium brings a certain dynamics to the room, because the creatures in it are in constant motion, and on the other hand, aquariums have a calming effect and are able to calm the nervous system. Watching the serene movement of the fish, you forget about all your problems and just relax.

We are accustomed to the fact that such interior decorations are usually placed in living rooms; less often they can be seen in bedrooms or other rooms. But it turns out that the aquarium fits perfectly into the interior design of the kitchen/dining room; its bright, dynamic and at the same time calming charisma will be an excellent alternative to the TV in the kitchen, with its annoying (and sometimes terrifying) news.

How pleasant it is to dine in the company of marine life and watch the dynamics of the smooth movement of fish, and not listen to what terrible things have happened in the world once again, but the aquarium will never get boring, every day it will evoke more and more positive emotions.

Adding a twist to your kitchen design by placing an aquarium there is a bold, creative solution, “not like everyone else,” and you can install it in different ways—all you need is some imagination!

It can be built into the wall or an entire part of the kitchen wall can be “given” for it; this trick is especially fashionable in Europe. If your kitchen has a bar counter, then an elegant seascape will fit perfectly into its base, and small models will perfectly decorate the so-called kitchen apron (the area equipped above the work table).

There are several types of aquariums that you can choose for the kitchen - free-standing and built-in.

  1. Free-standing models are quite convenient both to use and to maintain; they can be placed either directly on the floor or on special bedside tables - stands. The shapes of such aquariums can be very diverse - from ordinary round or square to the most unusual shapes. In addition, for the kitchen you can choose an original aquarium in the form of a painting, you can choose any size.
  2. Built-in aquariums can be part of a partition or built into furniture. To create a cozy atmosphere in the kitchen, it is not necessary to populate the aquarium with fish; it is enough to simply imitate the seabed. It is much easier to care for such an aquarium. But if you want to keep fish in it, you can easily do it.

How to decorate an aquarium

Decorating an aquarium with plants, driftwood and rocks helps create an atmosphere that highlights the beauty of tropical fish. Now we will tell you how to use decorative elements tastefully to decorate your aquarium with your own hands. Try it!

You will need: stones, shells, gravel, driftwood, glassware. Decorating an aquarium for the kitchen is a complex task that requires imagination, creative thinking and professionalism, because you need to know how certain plants get along in the aquarium environment.

The ideal decor would be one that recreates the natural habitat of the fish, as a result of which the decorations look harmonious and beautiful.

To achieve this, you need to know where your fish come from to determine what type of plants to use in your design, and whether you need rocks or driftwood.

Sand is an excellent material for an aquarium bottom, especially if it is real. Often living plants do not want to stay in the sand and float to the surface:

  • tie a small weight to the root using fishing line and hide it in the gravel, making sure that the weight you use does not change the pH of the water.

There are decorative aquarium plants floating on the surface: bright green riccia moss, duckweed or limnobium - we don’t do anything with them, we let them float freely.

But you can attach a weight to the root system of Vallisneria (spiral or giant), Elodea (don’t forget that you need to plant male and female specimens in the aquarium) or Cryptocoryne so that the plants do not float up.

Plants with long stems are used at the back of the aquarium so that they do not obscure the decorations, while plants with medium length can be placed in the middle and on the sides or in the corners, and finally those with short stems can be planted anywhere.

Objects made of glass or ceramics can also be used in the work. You can purchase them by visiting the aquarium online store. Treasure chests, remains of sunken ships and similar decorative elements of an aquarium for the kitchen will look great, however - not only for the kitchen, you can easily install this sea beauty in the living room, bedroom or children's room.

The meeting of two elements: fire and water

The imagination of designers knows no bounds. It would seem that there is enough space in the house to install an aquarium. But they suggested a fireplace. Why? It turns out that the combination of imitation fire on logs and the beautiful water world becomes extremely effective. Those who decide to combine an aquarium with a fireplace will have a lot of work ahead of them.

Chic aquarium around the fireplace in the living room

It will be easier to combine an aquarium with a fireplace if the latter is an imitation and not a real hearth

The process will turn out to be quite labor-intensive; you need to correlate the electrics of the fireplace and the aquarium so that they do not intersect, and try to ensure that in the event of a leak, a short circuit does not occur. But when all the issues are resolved and the two elements - fire and water - are on the same plane, the impression will be amazing. Now you can not only admire the dance of the flame, but also watch the movement of beautiful fish and vibrant flora.

Corner aquarium with cabinet

A corner aquarium with a cabinet is a complete element that does not require additions. Inside the cabinet they hide all the accessories for caring for the tank. The aquarium itself stands securely on a sturdy stand. Ordinary furniture is not suitable, since interaction with water will damage the furniture. The cabinet is treated with moisture-repellent impregnations, which prevent its damage.

The cabinet is immediately designed to support the weight of a water tank. It has special holes for hoses, installation of equipment, and space for mounting an outlet. There will be no ugly protruding hoses left outside; they will be hidden from prying eyes by the cabinet doors.

Tanks at an angle complete with a cabinet are sold in specialized stores. To ensure that it fits perfectly into the interior, the cabinet is selected to match the style of the room. The color of the cabinet should match the main color scheme in the room, and the design of the corner aquarium should match the overall style of the furniture.

The cabinet is looked after and ensured that it maintains a neat appearance and does not spoil the overall impression of the pond. All surfaces are regularly wiped with a dust cloth, water drops and smudges are removed. It is recommended to lay a small moisture-resistant mat under the tank itself.

It is better to place the cabinet at an angle on a flat surface. Before adding water and starting the fish, you need to check all the walls and seams for integrity. If the cabinet needs to be moved or placed in another place, first remove the pond and then move the furniture.

Where is the best place to put it in an apartment?

A popular solution is to place it along one of the walls of the room. The container should preferably be placed at eye level. A non-standard structure that has an unusual shape should be installed so that it can be viewed from all angles.

It is not recommended to place an aquarium in an apartment near windows, since direct sunlight and temperature changes contribute to the appearance of algae and negatively affect the aquarium inhabitants.

The ideal place to place the container would be the quietest place in the apartment. The product should be located away from the TV and other equipment that creates noise. It is better to place the structure next to sockets to connect equipment. It is necessary to leave free space near the aquarium for convenient maintenance and feeding of the fish.

The photo shows an aquarium located near the sofa in the interior of the living room.

For a small apartment, mini-aquariums would be appropriate, which can be placed on a small console table in the hallway, on a bedside table or shelf in the living room. A flat model built into the wall will not take up useful space. In this case, large aquariums can be used. A transparent wall container in the shape of a hemisphere or a corner design will help save square meters.

Corner aquariums in the interior

To create an original composition in the room, you can use a corner interior aquarium. Their forms may differ from each other. An L-shaped aquarium successfully serves to divide the space of a room. The triangular fish house has an excellent view of the interior. And panoramic corner containers will perfectly fill a corner in a small room.

A compact corner aquarium in the shape of a trapezoid looks great in a small room. Such a container with properly selected decorations will create the impression of depth in a relatively small area.

Today, corner aquariums with concave or convex glass are becoming increasingly popular. Its interesting shape visually increases the volume of the container.

A small corner aquarium can be placed on a bedside table or small table. This tabletop house is perfect for keeping small schooling fish. A medium-sized tank with a capacity of up to 500 liters is designed for larger fish and requires a special powerful stand. At the same time, such a cabinet should be in harmony with the rest of the furnishings in the room. Corner aquariums with a volume of up to 700 liters should be installed only in spacious rooms where they will be clearly visible.

Setting up an aquarium in a closet: pitfalls

A cabinet with a built-in aquarium is a fashionable interior solution, unsurpassed in beauty and usefulness. But its arrangement is a very labor-intensive process and far from being as simple as it might seem at first glance. First of all, due to the considerable weight of the finished container. Only a specialist can calculate it correctly. In addition, the quality of the material from which the furniture set is made and the design features of its elements are also important.

Regardless of whether you plan to order new furniture or whether the containers will be built into a ready-made cabinet, an experienced specialist, after conducting a comprehensive analysis of the structures, will determine the need to install auxiliary elements. Thus, the large weight of the aquarium sometimes forces the installation of additional stiffening ribs, and the arrangement of lamps requires covering the internal surfaces with heat-insulating materials.

Commonly used aquarium shapes in design

Before mentally enjoying your idea of creating a unique and sophisticated interior using an aquarium, you first need to decide on the future design and shape of the aquarium.

There are several types of aquariums based on their basic placement in the room:

Floor type. Undoubtedly, such an aquarium will become the center of attention of your guest room, while a free-standing aquarium requires its own space in the room.

The majesty of an aquarium depends on its size, and sometimes it is this parameter that prevents you from installing such an aquarium in a small living room.

Wall type. For small rooms for meeting guests, it is recommended to use small aquariums in the form of paintings, which are placed on the wall in the form of a dynamic picture.

Built-in type. Another acceptable type for small living rooms is a built-in aquarium, which is built into furniture or into a niche in the wall.

Designers often use an aquarium as an element of room zoning.

For example, you want to organize a personal office, which is necessary for every business person, then in this case an aquarium will perfectly cope with the task assigned to it to divide the living room space.
  • How to choose a good shower for your bathroom
  • Hallway hanger - choosing a unique and practical accessory
  • How and when to refill a propane tank?

But when choosing any type of aquarium, you should know where the aquarium can be installed and where it is not recommended.

The aquarium cannot be installed in a place where it may be exposed to direct sunlight - this is due to the fact that sunlight will promote the development of algae in the aquarium, which will subsequently lead to the loss of the presentable appearance of your decorative wonder.

Therefore, if you cannot find another place to install a fish tank, then at least gently take measures to shade the aquarium.

It is worth noting the fact that you can easily make an aquarium with your own hands, but to do this you need to look at the instructions on this website https://clubsamodelok.ru/akvarium-svoimi-rukami

Aquarium over the bed

An aquarium can replace the headboard of your bed. You will fall asleep and wake up with the fish. The dimensions of the aquarium vary according to your preferences. If a large aquarium is too much for you, then you can put a smaller aquarium.

A very creative option is an aquarium of a non-standard shape. It can be located not only above the headboard, but also above the head. You will literally be immersed in the sea element.

Interior partition

Sometimes an aquarium is installed for the purpose of zoning space. Instead of a boring ordinary partition, an amazing, ever-changing underwater landscape with mysterious lighting appears. This idea is especially good for open-plan rooms. Transparent glass does not darken the room, adds light and air to it, but at the same time allows you to isolate yourself and get the necessary privacy.

You can enjoy the beauty of this aquarium from both rooms that it separates.

An aquarium can divide a room in an original way, becoming an interesting design solution, but you need to remember a few rules:

  1. Too much bright sun can stress aquatic life and lead to their death.
  2. The stand for the container should be strong and easily support the weight of the aquarium.
  3. The container is placed so that it can be viewed from all sides.
  4. For easy cleaning, the space around the aquarium is left free.

A large aquarium can be built into a wooden cabinet

Or place it in an open arch

It is good to use a glass container to differentiate between the living and dining areas, the kitchen dining area and the work area. The filling of the aquarium should be harmoniously combined with the decoration of the room. To use the space most ergonomically, things are stored under the aquarium.

pros

  • Saving space and visually increasing space A corner aquarium not only saves space by occupying and decorating a useless corner in the house, but also visually increases space. The design of the container allows it to be placed in any, even the smallest, room. After all, in almost every house there is an unnecessary corner, so you don’t even have to think about where to put the aquarium in the apartment. But square or rectangular vessels are not allowed to be in any room, because not everyone has a safe place.
  • Additional storage area and the ability to be built into a cabinet. A cabinet with an integrated aquarium is not just a practical stand, but also a place to store handy attributes, replaceable decorative elements, food, etc.
  • Safety An undoubted advantage of a corner aquarium for families with children is its safety. It cannot be dropped, knocked over or brushed aside with your hand, like a small round aquarium.
  • Overview Panoramic glass, which adds depth to the view, cannot be installed on any other vessel.

Recommended fish breeds

Having chosen the appropriate speed mode for the aquarium inhabitants, we begin to look for the most unpretentious creatures, because the air temperature in the kitchen is constantly changing.

Express

Guppies are considered small torpedoes due to their small size, bright colors and high activity. Calm contemplation is not about them, but you will get incredible sensations and be charged with positivity. If there is no free time to solve housing issues for fish, purchase only males.

Another fast-moving breed is the zebrafish. Gray-blue striped whales that love to get into fussy fights. In addition, such fish love and know how to jump, so there should always be a lid on the aquarium. These fish became the first GMOs. A modified bioluminescence gene has been introduced into them, thanks to which the fish glow in red or green shades in the dark.

Calm

Particularly popular are the brightly colored platies, which are distinguished by their gentle disposition. The fish are very prolific; every four to six weeks, one female brings up to two hundred or more fry.

A philosophical version of the fish is the marble-colored gourami, which prefers to move only at a slow pace. Such fish breathe air, so a lack of oxygen is not dangerous for them.

Fish for an aquarium in the kitchen ↑

Having decided on the speed of living organisms, we begin to choose among the most unpretentious creatures - remember that food is prepared in the kitchen, and temperature conditions matter.

  • Fast fish:
  1. Guppy. These are small torpedoes - they rush around like crazy, bright, small. A real children's kaleidoscope. With guppies there is no question of any kind of calm contemplation, but they are incredibly life-affirming - they charge you with positivity like a capacious battery. If you don’t want to soon worry about the housing problem of fish, buy only males (the demography of aquatic inhabitants is completely fine - they reproduce at an infernal rate).
  2. Danio rerio. Gray-blue minke whales that not only move quickly, but also start fights. They love jumping, so the aquarium must be kept closed. Danio rerio is the first GMO among pets. The fish were introduced with modified bioluminescence genes, and now they glow in the dark - red or green.
  • Calm fish:
  1. Pecilia. Popular among aquarists are brightly colored fish. They have a calm disposition. Extremely prolific. If you are visited by romantic thoughts about the restlessness of lonely fish, immediately remember that it costs nothing for a viviparous (despite this!) female platy to bring 240 fry. And she does this every 4-6 weeks.
  2. Gourami. For philosophers, Pisces are calm, marble-colored creatures that move extremely slowly. Caring for them is easy. These fish can breathe air, so they are not afraid of the lack of oxygen in the water.

Briefly about the main thing

Until recently, aquariums were purchased only for keeping fish. The main emphasis was on the process of caring for them. Today, such products are becoming elements of fashionable modern design. With their help, space is zoned, lighting is organized, and unusual, exclusive decoration is created. An aquarium with or without fish can decorate any functional room. To fill it, a rich assortment of decor can be used, allowing you to create an amazingly beautiful underwater kingdom. Watching his life calms the psyche and charges him with positive energy.

Options for placing an aquarium in the kitchen ↑

Aquarium in the wall between the kitchen and dining/living room ↑

The wall between the kitchen and the dining room once caused trouble, since it was necessarily load-bearing, and therefore prohibited from demolition. We had to look for compromises (arched openings, columns). Combining the kitchen and dining room was turning into a nightmare.

Today there are simply no walls, and rightly so - the opportunity opens up to arrange the room according to your own wishes. Some people prefer a common space, while others frankly need not only actual zoning (kitchen furniture here, sofa here), but also visual ones. You can build a partition, but why? An aquarium is a simple (except for caring for its inhabitants) and original solution. Moreover, this solution will never become hackneyed - it is flexible. With the help of lighting alone, you can change the look of the kitchen-dining room at least every hour.

A huge aquarium needs to be placed on something - tables with drawers are optimal: it’s convenient, and there are additional places to store all sorts of things. The cabinets are hung on top - the structure is ready. It is not solid, there is no wall as such, but the impression is there. However, you can ignore the utilitarian function if space allows.

The aquarium does not have to be huge - it will play its role as a wall separating the kitchen from the dining room in any case.

We do not recommend keeping fish or plants in such an aquarium - caring for them will be incredibly burdensome. For each feeding, you will have to jump on a stepladder and perform ballet steps in order to feed the pets through the upper cabinets (of course, there is nothing in them). Now let’s try to imagine the water change...

An aquarium without fish looks no worse.

Aquarium without fish

There are fish in the photographs, but in this case the aquariums are put on permanent maintenance, that is, a special person comes and maneuvers through the cabinets for as long as necessary. If it is possible to pay employees, then you can let the beauties swim.

Aquarium in symbiosis with kitchen furniture ↑

And this is real. Of course, for a small kitchen, where there are some utensils on every centimeter of the wall, this is an unaffordable luxury, but in rooms with enough square footage for a kitchen island you can already create.

Aquarium in the table

And the creations can even be classified as eco-chic style. Robert Kolenik (we consider his work as an example) specializes in this area. The master uses only natural, harmless materials. Chic is chic, but Robert does not forget about functionality. The tabletop installed above the aquarium rises with “one click”: you just press a button and access to the aquarium is open. It is clear that such masterpieces are made exclusively to order.

And we immediately move on - an aquarium in symbiosis with a bar counter.

Aquarium in symbiosis with a bar counter

When arranging it, you need to take care of the light, so the tabletop is not mounted directly above the aquarium. It is first covered with a special lid with lamps. But this is when there are live fish and plants in the aquarium. If none are observed, calmly ignore the lighting requirements.

Aquarium in the kitchen

However, the lighting itself should not be ignored. Lamps will still be needed so that the aquarium does not overtake the gopher by stealth.

Aquarium table

An excellent option for the dining room is an aquarium table.

Little things in kitchen life ↑

Manufacturers of skins love to exploit the marine theme - it is very harmonious with glass. Let's go the opposite way - we threw off the aquarium instead.

Constantly changing temperatures near the working surface are not the best conditions for fish, but you can do just fine without them - set up an aquarium with artificial contents (since plants will not enjoy the pandemonium around the burners either). Fortunately, they are now making algae and other coral leaves that are indistinguishable from real ones.

How about an aquarium shell? I would like to immediately give the designer a medal. Even two pieces.

And don’t forget about the basics - dot inclusions are always good. There is definitely a place in the kitchen for a small aquarium.

There are often theses about the exotic nature of kitchen aquariums, but, in our opinion, there is nothing exotic about them. Water is a related medium to all living things. Foremother. Nurse. We prepare food (and we can’t live without it) in the kitchen.

You can look at the water endlessly. But it is worth considering the movement. You need to understand what you really want - minutes of quiet contemplation or watching the flickering of colorful fish.

We skip the manual for building an aquarium with our own hands (it will still turn out to be a freak, and it’s difficult), we take for granted the need to purchase the required container and move on to filling it.

Aquariums without inhabitants

This type of kitchen decor is a simple matter: there are no fish in it, the number of problems is reduced. But you still have to follow certain rules. Any aquarium, regardless of its size, is an ecosystem, and the development of the plants in it depends on the fish.

But if your aquarium is a species aquarium, then it requires a special substrate, which is used as mineralized wool (special, not construction, impregnated with various substances), or soil with a high CEC index. The substrate is saturated with useful components and releases them as needed. Constant circulation will also be required, for which a pump with an aerator and a temperature relay is installed at the bottom. Fertilizers are added to the water; the substrate, thanks to its own SEC, attracts useful elements on its own.

The conditions in both aquariums (species and with plants) are similar, but a larger amount of nitrogen-phosphorus solution is added to the second container. If there is still enough light and carbon, plants develop quickly, but in the absence of fish, the process slows down, the plants release nitrogen and phosphorus, and they are immediately used by growing algae.

The water is changed periodically to remove excess substances.

Corner aquarium design

If you have a small room and you want to fit an aquarium in there, then a corner one will suit you; it can be placed in almost any room where there is a free corner. The angular shape will give you an excellent overview of the entire underwater world, and if you also take a convex lens, you will create the effect of a 3D picture. Such an aquarium will definitely not go unnoticed. This type requires a special base in the form of a cabinet that can withstand heavy weights. This entire set needs to be selected carefully, as the aquarium will be installed for a long time.

Also, if you live in your own home, you can try installing an aquarium along the entire length of the corner of the wall. It looks extremely impressive. This option needs to be approached even more consciously and every detail needs to be taken into account.

  • It is very important to think through the inner world and inhabitants that are correctly combined with the main interior, then the aquarium will definitely bring a special “zest” and colorfulness to your home.
  • Small schooling fish are perfect for this type of aquarium, but if you still decide to make it large, then you can safely put large specimens there too.
  • Exclusive shapes and models will add unusualness. It can be anything from a full-height column to a coffee table that will decorate your living room.
  • Designers will help you correctly implement all your ideas or show their own ideas of where such beauty can be placed and how to decorate it.

You need to consider whether you really want to install an aquarium; although these are small pets, they also require minimal care, feeding and attention. If you still want an aquarium, then make it a highlight, because modern technologies allow us to experiment in all sorts of different ways and bring into reality what we really want.

The comfort of the water world in the bedroom

Lovers of peace, comfort and a magical underwater landscape install an aquarium in the bedroom. It is usually not overloaded with decor and furniture, so a transparent container with exotic colorful plants and stones will be a bright detail.

In the bedroom, an aquarium is great for decorating the wall above the head of the bed. It can be small and elegant

Or huge, occupying most of the wall

Pros of placing an aquarium in the bedroom:

  1. Blue and greenish tones have a beneficial effect on the nervous system, help you relax and relieve tension.
  2. The open surface of the water will have a moisturizing effect, which is especially important in houses with central heating.
  3. Modern silent equipment will not disturb a restful sleep.
  4. LED lighting will serve as an original night light.
  5. A cabinet or console table is enough for an aquarium.

If the flickering of fish is annoying, you can choose the wabi-kusa style option, in which plants grow under and above water. Since there are no fish, frequent cleaning will not be required, and there will be no characteristic odor.

Design

Designing a corner aquarium is not an easy task. Before you organize a cozy home for your pets, you need to look around and decide on a color scheme that matches the design of the apartment.

You can decorate the container in the following ways:

  1. Using special inserts with images on the rear walls;
  2. According to the “from smallest to largest” principle, placing plants as they grow towards the back wall, creating an impromptu slide;
  3. Complementing the interior with decorative figurines or vases;
  4. By decorating half of the aquarium in the style of a river or seabed.

An aquarium in an apartment (or house) is not only entertainment, but also an opportunity to make the interior original. Aquariums with fish, despite the fact that they are constantly on the move, have a calming, calming effect on a person.

Most often, aquariums are placed in living rooms, less often in bedrooms, but these are not the only possible options. Aquariums built into the wall look very advantageous. It is also possible to place an aquarium in the kitchen, and this option has a number of justified reasons:

  1. The aquarium is inextricably linked with water. You will have to wash it regularly and partially change the water. The kitchen is a convenient location for performing all “water” procedures.
  2. It allows you to divide the kitchen into cooking and eating areas.
  3. Can replace a TV in the kitchen.
  4. The lighting used in the aquarium will become additional lighting in the kitchen.
  5. Original kitchen decoration.
  6. Has a calming effect. This will greatly help the housewife who is tired during the day, but she still has to do a number of jobs in the kitchen.
  7. It can hide some imperfections in the room.

An aquarium is a living decoration. In big cities it’s like an outlet, a piece of wildlife in the apartment. Especially when we are talking about a beautifully designed tank with living plants, and not soulless artificial ones.

You can place an aquarium anywhere in the kitchen. The main thing is that it is removed from heating devices (oven, stove). You can build it into the wall, you can place it under or on the bar counter, small tanks can be placed on the table. There are plenty of options. You have to rely on your own preferences.

If the purpose of the aquarium is to hide something (for example, an unsuccessful layout or unevenness), then it should be placed where it will hide a specific problem. The reservoir can be of different shapes, which will allow you to achieve the desired effect. It can be square, rectangular, vertically elongated, round, rounded, glass-shaped, and so on.

When choosing the shape and size of an aquarium, you need to focus on the size of the kitchen. In a small kitchen, a large tank will look inorganic. There are two main types of aquariums:

  1. Freestanding. They can be placed on cabinets, tables, shelves, or on the floor. They can be of different shapes and can be rearranged if necessary.
  2. Built-in. Can be built into furniture or a wall. This is an excellent option for zoning space. For example, for studio apartments. But if the owners don’t like this option, then later the niche will have to be filled with something else.

You need to decide in advance for what purpose you are setting up the aquarium. If you don’t want to care for fish, or you often go on business trips, you can grow only aquatic plants in the aquarium, without fish. If properly designed, it will look very advantageous. But it is much easier to care for - the water will not become contaminated so often, the plants will grow almost on their own.

Aquadesign can become a continuation of the kitchen interior. You can decorate it according to your kitchen style. For example, put mugs and saucers on the bottom instead of locks and amphorae. On the contrary, you can use a marine theme in your kitchen design - an apron with fish or green plants.

The lighting in the aquarium must be organized so that it can act as a backlight if necessary. For example, make several levels of light. In the evening, when the lights are off everywhere, aquarium lighting will create a romantic atmosphere. Drinking a glass of wine with your loved one (or alone) will be very pleasant.

An aquarium in the kitchen is an unusual solution. It will make the interior original and unforgettable. You can be sure that everyone who visits such a kitchen will remember it for a long time.
