Modern living rooms with brick walls

A modern living room with a brick accent wall is currently a hot trend that seems to be here to stay. If you are lucky enough to live in an apartment or private house where the brick walls are neatly covered with layers of finishing materials, it's time to dig deeper to expose the brickwork. The overall attractiveness of the room will largely depend on the color and quality of the brick laying.

In the event that what you see during the “excavation” does not make you very happy, the safest and most reasonable solution would be to paint the brick white: this will allow you to maintain a neutral background and at the same time add texture. Those looking for a more dynamic alternative can try other neutral colors for the background - gray or even black. A classic red brick wall also looks appropriate in modern living rooms, as long as the rest of the interior is kept neutral and as simple as possible.

If you are unlucky and your apartment is located in a boring “box” of glass and concrete, then in this case you still have a chance to radically change the interior of your home. Use decorative bricks to transform the walls in the living room. Of course, it cannot be compared with real brickwork, but in the given circumstances it can be considered a good alternative.

Brick “ribbon” between windows

If you have several windows in a room, you can decorate the space between them with brickwork. This will give the interior a special mood and a modern look. The Slavdom store has good options for implementing this idea.

Stylistics of designer and original living room decoration

Classic and modern style, loft or modern, Provence and romantic style allow the use of brickwork as an original and unusual decoration of the room, provided that it harmoniously matches the composition.

The use of such a non-standard idea helps to transform the room, give it character and individuality, and use this design technique to create a unique and inimitable interior solution.

DIY brick wall

Creating an imitation brick wall with your own hands is absolutely not difficult. To do this, you first need to plan the scale of use of the finish:

  • on the entire wall;
  • as a decorative element or accent;
  • fragmentarily, to highlight a specific area: fireplace, above the bed or near the TV.

Then you need to decide on the material used, so you can buy:

  • wallpaper;
  • ceramic tiles;
  • plastic or MDF panels.

You can create bricks of the desired size, shape and color yourself using a gypsum composition. To prepare it you need:

  1. Purchase a special mixture, plastic mold and materials for painting.
  2. Dilute the plaster according to the instructions.
  3. Pour the finished material into the molds and wait until it dries completely.
  4. Remove the finished blocks from the mold and lay them on the wall using regular tile adhesive.
  5. After laying, the surface must be allowed to dry completely.
  6. When the brick reaches a natural moisture level, it can be painted in the desired color and covered with decorative varnish.

Textured wallpaper

One brick wall in the living room interior decorated with wallpaper on different bases remains one of the most common imitation techniques, so when choosing decor it is important to take into account the impracticality of such finishing.

It is better to replace wallpaper with decorative, facing brick; it is not inferior to natural in texture and attractive appearance, but does not allow you to create an interior overloaded with individual elements, striking in its lightness and exquisite accents, for which small furniture forms and accessories are used.

White brick wall as a trend

Decorating living rooms with natural materials is a good tradition in interior design. The long-loved stone, forged metal, and wood were joined (since the mid-20th century) by brick. Having become a successful mainstream in the living space furnishing segment, this material gives rooms an individual aesthetic. The apparent deliberate roughness of the brickwork in the interior emphasizes the originality of the room, its figurative contrast and immediately attracts attention - the desire to touch it with your hand involuntarily arises.

A white brick wall favorably sets off the decorative elements of the room: furniture, textiles, decor. Against its background, color accents sound in a new way and texture nuances in the interior of each room are revealed. Moreover, this is not only an affordable way of original finishing, but also the possibility of creative use of various functional designs:

White brick wall in a bedroom interior

White brickwork or its imitation in combination with textiles can help create a calm, romantic atmosphere in the bedroom. Quite often it is used to decorate the wall at the head of the bed, complementing it with paintings, as shown in the photo, original lamps and other decorative elements. A white brick wall in a bedroom interior will look quite impressive if you choose the right bright textiles and contrasting furniture.

In most cases, white brick wallpaper would be appropriate in the bedroom interior (see photo in the article) or the use of decorative brick. Tiles are used much less frequently, since their reflective surface will become inappropriate in a room where you want to relax and unwind.

Along with decorative stone, white brick in the interior is increasingly gaining popularity and is turning into a mandatory element symbolizing an elite home. It serves, in a way, as an indicator of longevity and safety, while at the same time giving the room a special coziness, cleanliness and warmth.
