Design and characteristics of accordion doors
The system will allow you to divide the space, organize interior separation without losing the meter distance for opening.
After all, the door just needs to be folded and pushed against the wall. When assembled, the structure does not look bulky, but when unfolded it fulfills the main function of the door - closing the opening.
Accordion doors can be selected according to the following parameters: color, presence of glass, individual sizes.
Modern accordion doors will fit into any interior
The system will allow you to divide the space, organize interior separation without losing the meter distance for opening. After all, the door just needs to be folded and pushed against the wall. When assembled, the structure does not look bulky, but when unfolded it becomes a real decoration of the interior. A variety of textures, colors and glazing will enhance the visualization of the design solution and emphasize the individuality of the owner of the room.
Materials
The following materials are used for the manufacture of structures:
- tree;
- plastic;
- glass;
- metal.
Tree
Models made of wood look stylish and expensive. Wood can be used in various configurations. The most reliable products in use are those made from a single piece of strong wood (oak, ash, beech). Many economical models are made from fiberboard, MDF, and sawdust layers. Interesting are the designs, the frame of which is wooden, and the rest of the canvas is made of other materials (secondary products of the woodworking industry).
The main advantage of these models, in addition to their strength, is their naturalness. Environmentally friendly materials, which include wood, are usually more expensive, but they cause absolutely no harm to human health. Therefore, when setting priorities, it is important to understand what determines the high price of products made from them.
Plastic
PVC doors are very popular. Their price is affordable, and their technical performance properties are excellent. The interior door to the bathroom or toilet can be plastic, since moisture does not harm the material. PVC material is very easy to care for. Cleaning consists of regularly wiping the surface with a damp cloth. Plastic doors are made in different designs. The entire door or just the leaf can be made from PVC. Plastic is also used for decorative framing of structures.
Glass
Glass doors look unusual. But due to the characteristics of the material from which they are made, they may require a little more space to function than models made of plastic, wood, or metal. The glass must be securely fixed in the frame. Therefore, the frame and guides are thicker, longer, and less mobile. Types of accordion glass doors:
- frame;
- frameless.
The primary purpose of a glass partition is to decorate the room. Designers use the following materials to make the design more interesting:
- multi-colored inserts;
- transparent glasses;
- stained glass and mosaics;
- frosted glass;
- forged frames;
- lathing.
Since these models, especially with transparent glass, are capable of transmitting light, the size of the room is visually increased. Using the play of light and its refraction, you can create a unique room design. Glass “accordions” are very heavy and relatively fragile, although now manufacturers are increasingly using strong materials for their manufacture that are difficult to damage.
Metal
Metal accordions are not suitable for every room, as they are quite bulky and have a specific look. Although, for example, for production workshops or warehouses they will be just right in appearance and in terms of the convenience of the opening mechanism. In the vast majority of cases, not the entire structure is made of metal, but only the frame part. The door leaf is made from other materials: glass, wood, fabric, leather, and so on.
Help: Accordion folding doors made of fabric and leather with a metal frame are a zoning structure that acts as a screen rather than a full-fledged interior door. Such elements in the interior look non-standard. Suitable for premises such as beauty salons, photo studios, massage rooms.
Structure and design features of the accordion door
To understand the benefits of using a sliding door system, you need to familiarize yourself with the design of the door.
The design of a PVC sliding door uses several vertical panels (lamellas), which are fastened together in one of two ways.
- Accordion doors with a rigid hinge . A more reliable option that ensures long-lasting performance. This type includes the Style (without glass) and Favorite (with glass inserts) models. In addition, only with this type of connection we produce accordion doors of non-standard sizes.
- Accordion doors with soft connection . The lamellas are connected to each other with an elastic band using co-extrusion (co-extrusion is when a rigid panel is blown out together with an elastic band). This technology is cheaper, but at the same time less reliable. Accordions of non-standard sizes with connection type data are not made.
In the upper part, the accordion door is fixed on a guide along which sliding occurs. A plastic guide is included as standard, but can be replaced with a metal one if desired (paid separately).
Soft connection in the accordion door
On the sides the door is attached to the wall on side guides. They are vertically attached to the wall, after which the door itself (hinged guide) is “clicked” into one of them, and the second serves as a receiving part when closing.
The lower part is not attached to anything and moves freely. The distance from the floor to the door leaf is 1-1.5 cm.

Manufacturing materials
Folding accordion doors are made from different materials. There are 4 main ones:
- Plastic. Externally, it is the simplest and cheapest material. Used in solid structures. It comes with inserts. Doesn't look very attractive. This design is appropriate in dressing rooms, on balconies, and in bathrooms.
- Metal. Reliable design, but heavy. Installed where increased resistance to loads and high maneuverability are required. Made mainly from aluminum.
- Wooden. Outwardly attractive, they look expensive and noble. Reliable during installation and operation. The best option in terms of design and quality. More expensive than plastic models.
- Glass. They have two types of designs - framed and frameless. Thick, tempered glass is used. More attractive than plastic and metal. They compete only with wooden structures.
Characteristics of accordion doors that we sell
We sell sliding doors made in Russia, according to patterns from an Italian factory (previously, doors made in Italy were sold in Russia). New European equipment is installed in the production, modern materials and components are used that are environmentally friendly, and there are certificates.
Standard door sizes: 84x202 cm (for an opening up to 203 cm high and 84 cm wide).
Non-standard sizes : up to 10 meters in width (options to make it wider are possible), up to 3 meters in height (from 203 cm in height, the price for the product is more expensive).
A detailed table of prices and sizes is below.
With a standard height of 205 cm, color variations in 11 tones (see table below). When the door height is more than 205 cm, the number of colors to choose from is slightly smaller.
Plastic products are highly resistant to moisture. The accordion door does not require special care, and after a long period of use it will not become cracked or dry out.

Features and functionality of the design
A movable wooden “accordion” is used as an interior door, a wardrobe door, or a partition to divide space.
Functions:
- zoning of space;
- moisture- and light-proof barrier;
- saving space;
In offices, an accordion is needed to separate the negotiation area. In bathrooms - as a partition protecting from water, in studio apartments - to separate the kitchen from the main space.
The difference between this mechanism is the ability to abandon the box and threshold. The main guide of the accordion rail is mounted into the floor. In the open position, the accordion door narrows the opening and passage, but saves space significantly.
The distinctive features of a wooden structure are due to the characteristics of the wood. A wooden accordion door is not suitable for installation in any premises. The material “wood” is capricious and requires compliance with thermal conditions and humidity levels. In the production of doors, solid oak, maple and cherry are most often used. The wooden folding system is heavy in weight. An alternative construction material is MDF or fiberboard, which are styled like natural wood with veneer coating, impregnation or PVC film.
An important feature of a wooden accordion door is its strength and long service life. The wooden structure is durable with proper surface treatment and does not deform like plastic. Externally, a wooden accordion door looks expensive.

Advantages of an accordion door:
- compactness (for small room sizes, this is a good option to save space; when folded, it takes up very little space);
- no fluctuations from drafts;
- A high-quality and correctly installed structure moves and folds silently.
- light weight;
- multifunctionality (for example, can be used in a dressing room instead of cabinet doors).
Minuses:
- many small details;
- the door has to be repaired often due to the peculiarities of its design;
- does not provide sound insulation;
- does not keep warm;
- reduces passage;
- low strength.
Types of accordion sliding doors (FS portal)
Depending on the material used, FS-portal door structures can be made of wood or plastic. In the first case, predominantly pine, larch or oak wood is used, in the second, the most popular profiles are Rehau (Germany). A glass unit is installed as a translucent filling. And in order for the product to function properly for as long as possible, high-quality fittings from popular brands ROTO, Siegenia-Aubi and GU are used, which are resistant to corrosion and can withstand heavy loads and multiple opening-closing cycles.
