Washing machine in the bathroom – 110 photos of placement and design
So, if you are not a billionaire, and you simply do not trust your personal belongings to outside organizations, and even if you do, then in some urgent situations you may always need a washing machine at home. A washing machine is one of the main elements of household appliances in many residential premises.
Those who are changing their living space for the first time, and those who have purchased or are simply renovating a room with a unique design, are interested in the question of where is the best place to place a washing machine so that it does not disturb the residents with its noise or occupy Lots of space and not conspicuous.
Brief contents of the article:
Practical placement
This issue needs to be approached thoughtfully and from several angles. Of course, the best option for placement in the bathroom, because it will be in a domestic space, and not in a place where you spend your time, will not often catch your eye.
The washing machine can be completely hidden from view, for example, by building it into a bedside table with a door. This option for placing the washing machine will not only make the appearance of your bathroom more elegant and aesthetically pleasing, but will also protect the device from unnecessary splashes and possible contact with large amounts of water.
In this option, the washing machine will be built-in. Often it is necessary to make this furniture to order, taking into account all the dimensions of the bathroom, walls, ceiling, sink (if available in the given place), floor, and observing all the unevenness. But this option is one of the most reliable and convenient.
Installation considerations and options for small and large spaces
In large rooms, the washing machine can be placed in a special linen closet or in a closet with bathroom accessories. It all depends on the accessibility of an outlet, sewerage and pipeline connections nearby; the closer to them, the better.
It is much more difficult to install a washing machine in small rooms, but there are different options, the most popular is to place it under a special sink. Do not overload it by putting a bunch of things on top, this can lead to damage as a result of use.
If you have a box or partition in the bathroom, you can also conveniently place a machine behind it; you can install several shelves for the bathroom on top, this will expand the storage space, and it will also be convenient for you to get various powders and laundry detergents from them.
In general, we can say that the most important factors when installing a washing machine are:
- A technically correct location, closer to the sewerage system, outlet and pipeline distribution.
- Protect the device from excess water, if necessary.
- Decorating the device.
The machine must be located on a level floor; an uneven floor will lead to additional vibration and, as a result, faster breakdown of parts.
Before installation, carefully check that the floor and walls in the intended installation location are dry and even. If the floor and walls have irreparable unevenness, then you can do one more interesting thing, namely, install the washing machine inside the wall, as if in a box, it will not disturb anyone, it can be closed with a door, the entire structure can be built up to a cabinet, there are plenty on the Internet photos, or make a second washing machine or laundry stand on top.
You can also consider interesting options with the location of the washing machine above the toilet, but many may think that the idea is too stupid; you will constantly have to listen to the hum of the machine above your head while in the toilet. This is an even more unfortunate option if you live not alone, but with a whole bunch of people.
By the way, the sinks under which it is recommended to install washing machines are called “Water lilies”. They are optimally suited for this, since they are secured not with a pole coming from the floor, but directly with the help of the wall, due to which the load on the washing machine drops.
This will have a positive effect on the service life of the washing machine. Such a sink is often extended into a similar table, on which you can put some bathroom accessories and powders.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is worth saying that everyone must decide for themselves, first of all, which washing machine will be comfortable for them to live with, and then think about how to place it, taking into account the design of your bathroom and the entire apartment as a whole.
Since in our time we have to use this unit often, I do not recommend placing it in places close to places for rest and sleep, as well as in aisles.
Installing a washing machine in the toilet: instructions
How to place and install a washing machine in the wall of a Khrushchev building? Before installation, the following nuances are taken into account:
Installation
Choose a location for the washing machine. Measure the back wall of the toilet. The width and height must be at least 66x85 cm. The depth of the niche is selected in accordance with the depth of the washing machine body.
The base is ready. Now you need to install the machine on the shelf.
Attach a wide bar to the base as insurance. If the washing machine begins to move due to vibration, the bar will prevent it from falling.
To hide the car, you can cover the shelf with plasterboard or other material. It is advisable not to completely block access to communications, so it is recommended to install curtains and blinds. If necessary, they can be raised up. This approach will not affect the overall interior design.
All that remains is to lift the car onto the prepared base. It is advisable to do this together. Before placing the SMA, cover the base with a rubber or foam sheet. After which you can start connecting.
Connection
Correct installation is the basis of your safety. Therefore, use only moisture-resistant sockets. how to connect a washing machine to the network .
When connecting the hose to the sewer, keep in mind that it should not fall below 50 cm, otherwise the water will constantly drain. The hose can be connected to a direct outlet in the sewer or to a tee. It is also possible to connect via a siphon.
Important! The connection between the hose and the sewer must be tight. You can use sealing rubber or polyethylene.
To connect the inlet hose, choose an inlet tap with a convenient locking system. Quickly shutting off the water will help protect the room from an emergency.
Installing a sterile machine above the toilet; installation option in a small bathroom or toilet
The task of saving space in a small bathroom required a non-standard solution. The choice was made to install the washing machine above the toilet. Yes, the store has ready-made ideas for washing installations, but they have small loads and are not enough for a family.
After much thought and searching for interesting ideas, I had to solve this problem myself. Understanding that the machine is heavy, weighing 50 kg itself, plus vibration, led to the search for a non-standard solution to this problem.
I’ll share my work on how you can install a washing machine above the toilet and at the same time free up more space in a small bathroom.
Choosing the right toilet
Calculating the height, understanding that the machine should be located as low as possible for ease of use. The standard height of a regular toilet is 80 cm and plus you need a place to press the button, this is not very convenient and aesthetically pleasing. The answer was found in the use of insolation of a wall-hung toilet, but here there is also a standard, usually 120–130 cm, but this is a bit high. More details about the installations.
In fact, there is very little information about the types and sizes of different manufacturers, but whoever searches will always find it! I settled on a reliable GROHE system, it is well serviced and there are spare parts.
In this line there are systems from 90 cm in height, but you need to take 1 meter due to the fact that the toilet lid may block the button when open.
Now, after choosing the appropriate plumbing fixtures and equipment, we proceed to installing the washing machine above the toilet.
I’ve decided on the system, and now the built-in hygienic shower is also on fire; these are usually installed in every hotel in Turkey. The manufacturer's name is the famous Turkish Vitra, although not often, it can be found in online stores.
The advantages of this toilet are as follows:
- compact pot with bidette;
- hygienic system with built-in bidette;
- well-thought-out drainage system;
- lid microlift.
My biggest concern was whether the mounting bolts would fit in different systems, but everything fits perfectly.
The washing machine is ordinary, depth 40 cm and load 5 kilograms. Preference was given to a model where the handle was located as low as possible for ease of loading.
Installation of the installation system
Naturally, I preliminarily carried out wiring, sewerage and water supply for all main points of consumption, taking into account slopes and connections, but this is a separate topic. I ran a separate socket through an ouzo machine to protect against current.
I calculated the size of the shelf above the washing machine in advance and began installing the legs of the installation system on anchors. Since I have one wall already enclosed by a niche made of plywood for the refrigerator, which is already in the bathroom to save space in a small kitchen.
Additionally, a row of bricks was laid so that the entire main load would fall on it.
Formwork for concreting a shelf for a washing machine
An additional row of bricks was laid to strengthen the structure.
First you need to accurately determine the installation height of the toilet, taking into account the height of the screed and tiles. I secured the corners level on anchors for future formwork. After that, I cut a piece of waterproof plywood to size. Using a hammer drill, I drilled 14 mm holes around the perimeter in the wall for reinforcement and tied it together with ties. I raised the side for pouring by 15 cm and concreted the podium for the sterile machine.
Formwork installed and installation of the washing machine above the toilet
Once the concrete had hardened, I finally began connecting the system to the water supply and sewer system. After checking the system for leaks, making sure that everything worked and fit, I erected a frame for drywall. Next, I cut out the holes for the pipes and screwed the sheet on. All other processes are standard, priming and tiling. The result was a pedestal above the washing machine.
As a result, it was possible to compactly install the washing machine above the installation
Thanks to this placement, it was possible to install both shelves and a niche for a backup water heater. On the reverse side there is a refrigerator, which is located in the bathroom.
Nuances when installing the machine above the toilet
After completing the work, it's time to connect and lift the machine up.
An important point, be sure to secure the machine to the wall, since under heavy load it can jump a lot.
The mount for the legs of the washing machine is cut out of plexiglass. Additional fixation of the legs is installed. I use a vibrating plate under the washing machine
Ideally, you need to make a vibrating plate for a washing machine. To do this, we take and cut out a sheet measuring 60x45 cm from plywood, plexiglass, or plastic. Use a 45 mm milling cutter to make recesses for the legs.
We drill holes in the sheet for anchors for fastening. When installing the slab, we make a backing underneath it made of soft rubber or penofol. The result is a reliable vibration plate that will prevent the machine from jumping. I can say that the machine installed in this way vibrates and makes less noise.
I hope my tips for installing a washing machine above the toilet helped you solve the problem of where and how to install the washing machine.

Washing machine above the toilet: advantages and installation features
The issue of saving space in small-sized city apartments is quite acute, especially when it comes to standard buildings of the second half of the last century. Now in new buildings the priority is a combined bathroom, spacious kitchens, and small-sized housing on the real estate market is represented by studio apartments with the possibility of individual planning of living space. But what if you inherited a “Khrushchevka” or a “small family”? How to properly organize your living space without cluttering up already modest square meters with oversized furniture and other household items?
Pros and cons
The idea of installing a washing machine in the toilet is rather a necessary measure. It’s hard to call such an installation a design decision or an interior quirk, but owners of small apartments resort to this option quite often. In addition to the connection features, it is also important to pay great attention to the aesthetic issue - such a combination of household items should not look ridiculous.
When deciding to resort to this method of installing household appliances, read reviews on the Internet, examples of bathroom design, and weigh the pros and cons of such an installation.
There are not many advantages of installing attachments.
Speaking about the disadvantages of installing a washing machine in a toilet, we can highlight the following points.
Installation Features
The easiest way is to plan the installation of a washing machine immediately after moving to a new living space, or if you have started a major renovation of the entire apartment. In this way, you can achieve maximum convenience and comfort when installing this piece of household appliances and subsequent interior design.
When deciding to install a washing machine in a toilet, the first thing you should do is carefully study the features of the plumbing structures. The opening width of the entire structure must be at least 65 cm, and the height must be at least 85 cm. The gap is necessary to facilitate the installation of the machine and its removal if necessary.
Taking into account the limited space of the room, it is recommended to use narrow models of washing machines, which will look more harmonious and compact, without hanging over the tank.
When all the measurements have been completed and the machine itself has been purchased, you can begin constructing the structure for installation. This can be a special niche or a durable hanging shelf. Installers recommend using large metal corners. Wooden beams will not be suitable in this case: their fastening to the wall will not be reliable enough due to the weight of household appliances and vibration during their operation. After the corners are securely fastened to the wall, forming a frame, let's start with the electrical wiring.
The washing machine must be connected to the most reliable power source. Extension cords and cheap sockets are strictly prohibited! Often, bathrooms are not equipped with additional sockets, so craftsmen have to pull a copper wire from the electrical panel, carefully insulating it. After installing a moisture-resistant outlet, you must check its functionality. Having made sure that the installation of the power supply is reliable and safe, we proceed to connecting the water supply.
Washing machine: 4 installation options for your choice
The washing machine allows you to wash everything quickly and without hassle. However, at the same time, the washing machine is also a source of problems. And the main one is where to put this treasure necessary for life.
In today's article we will not even mention luxury apartments, which sometimes even have separate laundry rooms. We set ourselves another task: to tell you where you can put a washing machine in a Khrushchev building or in any small apartment.
So, let's go!
Washing machine and kitchen: are they compatible?
A washing machine in the kitchen is a fairly common option. As a rule, they place it somewhere near the sink, since this is where access to water pipes and sewerage is easiest.
If you are also a supporter of installing a washing machine in the kitchen, make sure that it does not take up a separate space. This can be achieved by placing the unit under the countertop. Since the design of the machine is unlikely to match the design of the kitchen, it is better to cover it with a door or even install it in a cabinet.
If, when installing a washing machine in the kitchen, you need to remodel this room, be sure to read this article!
Of course, when deciding where to put the washing machine, having a Khrushchev-era apartment or a very small apartment, you can break your head. But, it seems to us, placing it in the kitchen is far from the best option: after all, the kitchen is not at all the place where you can regularly bring washing household chemicals and dirty laundry.
It's an apples-to-apples, but often bathrooms are so small that installing a washing machine in there seems like an impossible dream. True, as with pagan rituals, various sacrifices can bring benefits. For example, you can sacrifice the dimensions of the machine itself, giving preference to a miniature model. Or you can install the machine under the sink, which we already talked about earlier.
Of course, you can come up with other options for a small bathroom. How do you like a washing machine mounted on a pedestal, the space under which you can always use?
Having decided to put a washing machine in your small bathroom, you can free up space in this room by replacing the bathtub with a shower. This way you can not only get space to install a washing machine, but also squeeze in a laundry basket and some cabinets. That is, we are again talking about the ritual of sacrifice.
Washing machine in a mini-toilet – the impossible is possible!
Someone will say that installing a washing machine in a microscopic toilet is a purely fantastic plot - and they will be wrong. Some valiant craftsmen were able to perform this fantastic trick, using suspended models of units and securing them above the toilet.
If the space of the toilet allows, then the washing machine can be placed next to the toilet, but this is too trivial to detail such an option in our article.
Truly exotic solutions are also found in the toilet placement of washing machines. For example, you have hardly heard of a washing machine model that can take on the function of a drain tank to save space. Moreover, the water in this “tank” is the one that has accumulated after washing. However, when installing such a washing machine, additional special fastening is required.
In cramped conditions, but don’t be offended: washing machine in the toilet and bathroom
Crowding is one of the main problems of city apartments. In particular, the need to install an automatic washing machine, occupying a minimum of usable space, sometimes requires non-trivial solutions. In this article I will talk about how to place it in a combined bathroom, bathroom and even a compact toilet, and I will give a number of recommendations for connecting the machine to the sewerage system, water supply and electricity.
Washing machine in the bathroom of my house.
Location
Combined bathroom
For owners of private houses, the problem of placing a washing machine is not too acute: as a rule, the size and layout of the premises are initially adjusted to fit plumbing fixtures and household appliances.
What to do in the bathroom of a small apartment? Here are some solutions:
The washing machine replaced the sink.
The bath has been replaced with a shower. The washing machine is installed in the vacant space.
A shower cabin allows you to save not only space, but also water. To take a comfortable shower, 30 - 60 liters of warm water is enough. The bathtub holds 200 liters or more.
Bath
In addition to the solutions described above, in a compact bathroom it is common practice to install the machine under the washbasin. There are several subtleties here:
Several washbasin options.
The compact machine is located under the washbasin.
Toilet
How to place a washing machine in a toilet with an area of about 1.5 square meters?
The only option for its location is above the toilet and cistern .
Another interesting solution is to use a wall-hung toilet with a cistern hidden in the wall. There is still room above the machine for a boiler.
Of course, there are several nuances here:
The device is installed on a prefabricated rack made from a corner.
Reduced depth machines are available in the model ranges of all major manufacturers.
In general, it is better to lay all communications in the apartment openly. A couple of pipes on the wall will cause minimal harm to the aesthetics of the room, but their availability will save you a lot of nerves, time and money during your first plumbing repair.
All communications remain accessible. When the machine is not in use, it is covered with vertical blinds.
What is the advantage of a washing machine installed above the toilet?
About the advantages - firstly, we saved the already compressed space of square meters in Khrushchev-era apartment buildings, secondly, we were closer to the ventilation duct, thirdly, we saved on accessories for filling with cold water and draining squeezing water, fourthly, it is possible to hide this washing machine behind a false door, in fifthly, if there are small children, then their access will be limited, sixthly, if there is a break in the water supply network of the washing machine, only the bathroom will have time to flood, because the floor there is lower than the main floor, seventhly, you can place a closet for dirty linen.
Lots of advantages compared to no advantages!

Sorry if my opinion does not coincide with yours)). But I would install a washing machine above the toilet or above anything else closely involved in family life as a last resort. If there is absolutely no space either in the bathroom or in the kitchen. A washing machine, even with three kilograms of laundry, has a lot of weight on its own, plus the water in it, plus the wet laundry. In this case, the supports for a washing machine installed at a height must be made very strong so that the machine does not fall from its own weight and vibration onto the head and back of the person sitting on the toilet.
I agree that many people are haunted by the free space in the toilet (bathroom) above the toilet. And they want to keep him busy with something. But not a washing machine! Apart from the only advantage - saving space - I don’t see any others. I'm not so extreme as to conduct such experiments)).

A good idea, where there is a small room for living, a wonderful option. And if you come up with a neat design, you can do it in an ordinary apartment. For some reason, when I saw your photo, I immediately entered the option of placing the washing machine in my place. But I remembered that I have a vertical loading one. Why did I choose this one, so as not to struggle with loading and unloading laundry. Here the designer came up with another idea.
What is the advantage:
Firstly, front-loading washing machines are much cheaper than vertical ones.
Secondly, if there is constant hot water, then the standard place for a water heater can be taken by a washing machine like this.
Well, and thirdly, it’s convenient - I put the basin with dirty laundry on the toilet seat, without bending over, loaded it into the washing machine and put it to work.
Thank you! I never thought about this option.
Here you are sitting on the toilet. The washing machine hums peacefully above you. The pumping of water from the machine begins. and then - bam! — but the hose was already at its limit, and at that moment it took it and broke through.
This time. Second, scientists say that bunk beds are not healthy. The low ceiling puts pressure on the psyche. There is also a “low ceiling” here.
Three. The vibration on the wall of the Khrushchev building is “oh-guard.”
These are the disadvantages. Here are the advantages.
- It is smaller than standard bulky washing machines. And it can be placed in many places where a regular car would not fit.
- A smaller amount of laundry is loaded into it, that is, there is no need to accumulate dirty laundry for a long time
- Less water and electricity are needed to heat it.

Why did you decide? that you need to store laundry in large washing machines? Here I am designed for 7 kg. If I have 1 kg of laundry, then I turn on a mode where the permissible capacity in this mode is up to 1 kg. There is a mode for 3 kg, for 3.5. on 5 and 7. Do you even have a washing machine? - more than a year ago
The option in itself is not bad, but the old apartments themselves are very small, and most have washing machines in the kitchen, because there are boilers in the toilet, and boilers, in principle, are more important than a washing machine, so this option is not for everyone, but nevertheless, it’s a good option; saving space is more important than ever in our apartments. True, you also need to worry about securing the machine so that everything is secure and the machine does not fall during the procedure for six months)))

Do not be afraid. Feel free to install. Supports, if the house is old with crumbling plaster, can be made along the side walls or rested on the floor. In general, it won't fall. And we did it above the bathroom, it’s also convenient. A friend of mine has an aesthetic water tank above the toilet (drain from a machine) connected to a flush tank, so they save water (flushing the toilet).
Connection
How to connect the machine to all communications with your own hands?
Electricity
All modern washing machines use cold water for washing, heating it to the required temperature with heating elements. The exception is some rare Daewoo models imported to Russia in the early 90s. On the practical side, the presence of a heating element means that when heating water and rotating the drum, the power consumed by the device can reach 2.5 - 3 kW.
This has two practical consequences:
The permissible current is usually indicated on the front surface of the socket, between the holes for the plug pins.
The outlet is designed for a current of 16 amperes at voltages up to 250 volts.
Grounding to the water supply. This is not entirely correct, but it is practiced.
Sewerage
The drain hose must be raised to a height of at least 50 cm from the floor . The instruction is related to the absence of a shut-off valve on the drain of a typical washing machine: if you lower the hose lower, the water will begin to flow out of the tank by gravity.
How and to what can I connect the drain hose?
The machine is connected to the sewer through an oblique tee installed under the washbasin.
The bend and straight tee are usually equipped with a vertical pipe 40-50 cm high. Its upper edge is rigidly attached to the wall. The goal is to prevent the hose from falling below the notorious 50 cm above the floor.
The hose is connected to the siphon.
An important point: the connection between the sewer pipe and the hose must be sealed , otherwise the room will be saturated with unforgettable aromas of wastewater. For sealing, you can use rubber sealing couplings sold specifically for this purpose, or any available material, even tape.
To seal the connection, I used polyethylene foam left over from insulating pipes in the basement.
I strongly advise against drilling a hole in the riser and inserting a hose into it. The tip of the hose sticking out inside the riser will collect any large-sized debris traveling through the sewer - paper, rags dropped into the toilet and other unappetizing things. Sooner or later this will lead to a blockage, and both the neighbors above and you will suffer: the slab floors are not airtight.
This connection to the sewer is not a good idea.
Water pipes
The standard hose for connecting the washing machine to the water supply ends with a union nut with a pipe thread size DN20 (3/4 inch).
Inlet hose for connecting the washing machine to the water supply.
The modern market offers many taps of this size.
A couple of recommendations for choosing a faucet:
The photo shows a good, serviceable straight-through valve.
Instead of a specialized tap, you can install a regular ball valve with an adapter DN15 - DN20 on the outlet for connecting the machine.
Where can I install a tap to connect the machine with minimal modifications to the water supply connections?
Connection to the water supply with a pass-through tap.
Insertion in front of the mixer. Connection takes no more than half an hour.
Instead of a coupling, a tee is installed.
Brass saddle for inserting into a pipe.
