Types of modern, simple and beautiful gates for a private home

When choosing the type of fencing for the private sector, gates occupy a key place. The final cost and installation time of the entire fence depend on the complexity, opening method, and material.

A gate for a house is a mandatory element of a yard where there is a car. With a modern assortment, each owner will be able to choose those that are suitable specifically for his site. If you have experience in construction, then you can buy the necessary set of materials, fittings and assemble the gate yourself.

Classification by opening method

There are two types. Let's look at each of them in more detail.

Automatic

Due to ease of use, an automatic control system is often chosen by owners of country houses. To regulate the work, the owner does not even have to leave the house or car. Opening and closing occurs by pressing a key on the remote control. When there is a power outage, the gate can be opened using a regular key.

Automation can be installed on sliding and swing versions. The gate is mounted nearby.

Modified models have built-in sensors that respond to the machine's signal, and no pressing is required.

Most manufacturers guarantee trouble-free operation of the product for 25,000 cycles.

Automation allows you to use the gate regardless of weather conditions. All models have a stylish and interesting design, which each owner chooses to suit his taste.

Disadvantages: high prices and likelihood of counterfeiting.

Mechanical drive

Such designs involve manual opening with a key or by turning a special lock. Often used for swing gates. The constipation is purchased together with the main design or made to order.

There are two popular types of mechanical constipation:

  1. Vertical. The sliding mechanism provides reliable fixation. A lock with a handle is placed between several metal rods.
  2. Horizontal or latch. More popular type. Suitable for any gate. A retractable lock is placed between the metal bars in a horizontal position.

There are different types of mechanical locks on sale that are suitable for gates:

  • screw;
  • crossbars;
  • grooved

Such locks are equipped with an overhead mechanism, which is mounted to the frame and enters the base at the bottom.

If the design consists of two doors, then one lock will be required for each of them.

Video description

The video shows how roller garage doors work:

About the benefits:

  • easy- to-use design;
  • light weight ;
  • variety of decoration;
  • does not take up space either inside or outside the garage;
  • can be automated .

About the disadvantages:

  • quite high price ;
  • low heat and sound insulation characteristics ;

It should be noted that roller gates can be installed on the internal wall of the room, on the external wall or directly into the opening. In the latter case, the height of the opening is reduced by the size of the shaft with lamellas screwed onto it. This must be taken into account when installing garage doors.

Materials for production

The choice depends on the raw materials of the main part of the fence, the design idea and the financial capabilities of the owners.

Tree

Wooden gates with a wicket are a harmonious addition to a large house made of fresh logs. Combined with elements of carving and forging.

The wood must first be thoroughly treated from moisture, insects (antiseptics, impregnations), fire (fire retardants). Such protection will significantly extend the service life of the structure without loss of appearance.

To highlight the beauty of the natural texture, as well as protect the wood from environmental influences, we recommend that you read the following articles:

  • Rating of wood antiseptics
  • Variety of wood impregnations
  • Protective wood coating for exterior use

The materials for wooden gates are often:

  • fence;
  • edged board;
  • timber

Among the advantages of wood:

  1. Natural and environmentally friendly raw materials.
  2. Assembling the elements is simple and quick.
  3. A beautiful type of material, which is complemented by figured carved elements.
  4. Repair individual parts without harm.
  5. No expensive tools or equipment are needed for installation.

Disadvantages of wood - limited service life due to exposure to moisture and other external factors. Repeated treatment with protective solutions will be required after 3-5 years.

Corrugated sheet

With skillful fastening, gates made of corrugated sheets will become beautiful and durable. These are profiled steel sheets with a galvanized protective layer. Sold in different colors.

Advantages of corrugated sheets:

  • a light weight;
  • ease of installation;
  • low price;
  • choice of color coating;
  • long service life;
  • resistance to external factors;
  • does not require maintenance.

No significant shortcomings were found, but some owners believe that the profiled sheet does not look beautiful.

There are not many such people, so corrugated sheeting is becoming increasingly popular among residents of the private sector.

Users often search for:

  • Brand of corrugated fence
  • How to screw a corrugated sheet to a fence

One type of profiled sheet is Euro picket fence. These are metal profile strips with a protective decorative layer, a successful imitation of a wooden fence. Euro picket fence is a good basis for a modern fence that will look beautiful and reliably protect the site.

Forging

Forged elements are an addition to the finished structure. The use of transparent gratings with forged patterns is rare, since not every owner wants his yard to be visible. To prevent the yard from being visible from the street, the fence is often lined with polycarbonate sheets.

Forging patterns is difficult. This requires skills and equipment. It’s easier to buy ready-made elements or order from specialists.

Artistic forging is considered the most expensive and elite decoration, since all stages of the work are performed by hand by a craftsman.

Among the advantages:

  • strength;
  • resistance to moisture, temperature changes;
  • combination with other materials;
  • long service life;
  • forging according to individual sketches.

The main disadvantage is the high cost.

Wrought iron will have to be periodically treated with anti-corrosion agents.

Standardization of sizes

There are no clear restrictions on the choice of opening dimensions, but it is recommended to follow generally accepted provisions:

  1. The dimensions of the gate should take into account the width and height of the car, taking into account the side mirrors, and it is better to be 1 m more than this figure.
  2. When determining the width, it should be remembered that the width of passenger cars is somewhere around 1.5-1.7 m, SUVs - 1.7-2 m. The minimum opening for entry is 2.5 m.
  3. The dimensions of the gate are selected depending on the number of pillars and the dimensions of the frame.
  4. If the area of the site allows, then leave a width of 4 m for the entrance; for a gate, 1-1.2 m is enough.
  5. The doors are not placed close to the ground, otherwise in winter it will be difficult to open when frozen. An indentation of 15–30 cm from the bottom is made.

You should not install a gate that is too large, since the hinges simply will not withstand such a load. The recommended height is 2 m. If you need a higher sash, you will need to secure a crossbar between the posts - this will increase rigidity and protect it from deformation.

General tips for making and installing gates with your own hands

  1. The initial stage is planning. Involves the development of an accurate design diagram. You will need to draw both a whole fence and a gate with a gate separately, calculate the amount of materials, the location of parts, and draw up an estimate. If you do not have the skills to develop documentation, then it is better to order a project along with a construction permit from specialists.
  2. A solid foundation will have to be poured under a heavy, massive fence. This is especially true when the pillars are brick or stone.
  3. To build a frame for the gate, it is recommended to take metal pipes with a cross-section of 60*40, with a wall thickness of 3 mm or more.

  4. Metal cutting is done with a grinder at an angle of 45 degrees.
  5. A budget alternative to metal is a frame made of wooden beams. This is done when the gate is sheathed with lightweight materials.
  6. Frame parts are reinforced with metal corners and spacers.
  7. Welding areas and all seams are thoroughly cleaned, degreased and treated with an anti-corrosion primer.
  8. Heavy gate leaves are equipped with three hinges on each side; for light ones made of corrugated sheets, two hinges are enough.
  9. The location of the hinges determines which direction the gate or wicket will open.
  10. When sheathing the sashes with corrugated sheets, the sheets are laid overlapping across the wave, secured with roofing screws. The color is matched to the tone of the material.
  11. To avoid injury, the material must be taken with rolled edges.
  12. If the roof of the house is made of corrugated board, then a fence made of the same raw materials will look very harmonious.
  13. It is better to take a little extra material for cladding, in case of unforeseen mistakes or damage.

The size of the frame must correspond to the parameters of the sashes. If the frame turns out to be a little larger, then you can correct the mistake by welding small patches. But if the frame is made smaller than required, it will have to be cut with a grinder and re-digested.

What simple and beautiful gates you can make with your own hands

The simplest DIY option for a gate with a wicket for a private home is a swing gate. It consists of two pillars, and the wicket and gate leaves are installed on hinges that are welded to the support pillars.

You can make sliding gates, but their installation is quite more complicated than swing gates. On the sides of such a device, bulky brick pillars are installed. If the owner of a country cottage is satisfied with the limited height, you can make a lifting structure with your own hands, which very simply opens and closes by lightly lifting and then moving the entire canvas upward to an even horizontal position.

Gate design and styling

Depends on the taste and capabilities of the owners.

An important condition when choosing decor is compatibility with the façade of the house and the roof. When choosing colors it is also worth considering this factor. Contrasting tones are allowed.

Sometimes the poles are supplemented with street lamps, adding brightness to the estate at night. The doors are decorated with small carved figures, forged patterns, and interesting designs. Lovers of minimalism limit themselves to selecting exquisite material for the gate, without using unnecessary decorations.

Below are different design styles in which you can design fence structures.

Loft

A strict direction that many associate with unfinished renovations.

The main features of a loft:

  • rough, unpolished wood;
  • brick pillars;
  • concrete slabs without finishing;
  • metal without painting.

The color scheme is predominantly dark tones of gray, black, brown. Playing in contrast is allowed - red with black, white with brown. The lines are simple, without patterns.

Gates in the loft style are rough doors made of wood and iron, reminiscent of the doors of production workshops.

Modern

Vivid examples of fence structures in this style:

  • made of aluminum horizontal profiles;
  • forged openwork, ornate elements;
  • metal multi-colored doors.

The main requirement is wavy, winding lines, angles, plant motifs.

In the Art Nouveau style, forged sliding gates are most often created, which are distinguished by their modern design and long service life.

So that what is happening on the site is not visible, the background of the forging is made of polycarbonate sheets, wood, and corrugated sheets.

Provence

The fence is decorated in an antique style. This is an example of a harmonious combination of stone and wood.

It is recommended to lay out the pillars from sandstones and limestones in warm colors.

Granite won't work. The stones should be reminiscent of the origin of the style - the southern French coast.

The doors are covered with wood and painted in the following colors:

  • lilac;
  • turquoise;
  • lilac;
  • beige;
  • light green.

The fence should give the impression of an old structure. Scuff marks are deliberately left on the surface. It is allowed to use forging - simple elements without patterns. Garden plants in pots are hung on sections or climbing roses are planted around the perimeter.

An example of Provence is a gate made of wooden picket fence, painted white on stone pillars.

High tech

A direction that is designed to show a successful combination of minimalist details and expressive design.

Suitable materials for creating sashes:

  • pipes;
  • polycarbonate;
  • Rabitz;
  • gabions;
  • steel sheets;
  • terrace board;
  • aluminum parts, profiles;
  • wood with emphasized structure.

The pillars are erected from metal, concrete, and well-polished stone.

For cladding, it is better to place pipes, boards or profiles in a horizontal position, emphasizing the originality of the solution. For high-tech, it is appropriate to purchase ready-made paneled structures.

Self-production of swing gates

In order to make the above mechanism yourself, you must first make a detailed breakdown of the pillars. Next you need to do the following:

  1. Align the reinforcement with a diameter of 10-12 mm in such a way as to create 4 corners of a rectangle, inside of which the future gate posts will be located, check the diagonals.
  2. After breaking the pillars, dig holes for the pillars and foundation. The pits for each pillar should be equal to or slightly larger than the pillars themselves. The depth of the pit must be below the standard freezing depth.
  3. Install metal pole supports. These can be round pipes, channels, fittings. The underground part should be less than the depth of the pillar foundation. The top part is lower than the height of the brickwork of the pillar.
  4. Install all metal supports to be concreted, such as pillar pipes and strip foundation frames, into the pits.
  5. Concreting, smoothing the surface of the concrete, immediately covering it.
  6. Install at least 3 embedded parts for metal strips on each post. Install the lower part after the first three rows of masonry pillar, the upper part - 5 centimeters below the top of the sash.
  7. After installing the mortgages, you can attach the metal plates by welding them at the points of contact between the parts.
  8. Next, we attach the hinges to the metal plates and to the gate leaves.
  9. We create the frame of the sash from a T-profile; it is necessary to join the profile at 90 degrees: cut it to the required size and weld the right post to the lower pipe of the frame, then perform the same manipulations with the left post.
  10. Attach the crossbar.
  11. Make a horizontal jumper, then attach a vertical one from the same pipe.
  12. After completing the welding work, grind the seams with an angle grinder, degrease and apply primer.
  13. Attach the corrugated sheet to the frame.
