Stove maker Evgeny Krasovsky Articles 01/10/2019
Winter is not the season for a stove maker. But I have a job and there are clients who want to have a brick heating stove with a fireplace door with glass and a “white-style” bread chamber in their home. I am grateful to them for the opportunity to work with an interesting project.
Below is a 3D sketch of the future furnace. Door – Vesuvius 224. For the bread chamber – Vesuvius 270. Blower, cleaning doors and rotary valve – also from Vesuvius.
Brick heating oven with bread chamber sketch
Vitebsk brick. As usual, it’s a struggle with the “twist” for even seams. The oven will have shelves: a large lower one - like a wooden shelf and a small upper one - decorative.
Vitebsk brickwork
In the bread chamber it will be possible to cook various dishes close to a Russian oven. There is a bread chamber of the same design in the oven at my mother’s house. My mother is very pleased with her. In about a week the project will be completed and delivered, and I will share photos of the finished stove.

The work on laying the fireplace stove has been completed. Below is a photo.

A wooden shelf will be installed on the bottom brick shelf. For an aesthetic connection to the brickwork, a 5 cm wide groove is left.

How to pay for the project
The master may not need the project, but the client definitely needs it in order to imagine in advance what kind of stove the result of the work will be. Now there are no more people left who are ready to trust the stove-maker’s improvisation and get a “pig in a poke.” Many are directly involved in the design, making necessary changes in the process both to the external design of the stove and to the design features of the fireplace. And this is correct, because I am building a stove not for myself, but for a person who will live with it for many years and many moments that I may miss will be important for him in the future. That’s why I always ask the client: I’m waiting for comments and suggestions on the project so that I can quickly make adjustments.

The process of laying a fireplace stove
This fireplace stove is built on an existing foundation and connected to an existing chimney. For laying ceramic bricks, we used our own clay-sand mortar in a ratio of 1/3. For laying fireclay bricks, a mixture of MSh 28 with a small addition of liquid glass was used, as well as heat-resistant glue. The work on laying the fireplace stove took a total of 10 days. The first row of the stove is decorated with a hand-carved plinth from brick. Such work cannot be done without assistants.

During the first firing, insufficient draft in the furnace was detected. The existing chimney was inspected and a narrowing of the horizontal part of the “lounger” was discovered, after eliminating which the stove started working as it should.

Application of the bell method
Kuznetsov fireplace stoves are assembled using a specific method, which has the following features:
- All gases and flows begin to be evenly distributed outside the combustion chamber;
- Depending on the number of hoods installed inside the structure, warm air is retained to a greater or lesser extent in the internal part of the unit, thereby providing fast, efficient and uniform heating;
- When installing the hood in close proximity to the combustion chamber, during melting, hot air vapors instantly enter inside and the installation, as well as the room, warms up several times faster;
- Due to the presence of caps, a minimal amount of soot and other deposits are formed, which greatly simplifies maintenance and cleaning;
- The heat exchanger must be installed exclusively outside the combustion chamber, which allows the efficiency to remain at the highest level and not decrease.
Kuznetsov's fireplace stove is designed in such a way that, as a result, exclusively cold air is released through a special hole located in the lower part of the installation, while hot vapors accumulate in special hoods.
