Create!

Try making knitted beauty yourself. We will tell you how to crochet both regular and unique rugs with diagrams and descriptions. Before starting work, you need to decide on the color scheme and choose a model that is organically suitable for your home or country interior.

For inspiration, look through photos of similar items on the Internet. Many of them are simply amazingly beautiful. We will show you what knitted rugs can be like and teach you how to knit models that are popular today, simple and beautiful.

It is not always necessary to have extensive experience and craftsmanship to create a knitted masterpiece. There are patterns that even a beginner can do, but the grace and beauty of the knitted product will be undeniable.

Knitting techniques

Home carpets knitted from yarn can be in the form of a continuous fabric of any shape with different knitting algorithms. For example, rectangular ones are knitted in straight rows, like on knitting needles. And the round ones start from the central loop, then knit in the round.

Knitted rugs made using the fillet technique are based on a base mesh, to which a pile of yarn, such as grass, is added. And uniform in style, separately knitted fragments in the form of any shapes are combined into a magnificent canvas of “motifs”.

We will show beginners step by step how to create a rug of different shapes from yarn with your own hands.

Features of material and product care

Advantages of cord products:

  • They do not attract dust and do not harbor mites or other insects;
  • When washed in water at temperatures up to 30 degrees, the product does not deform and does not “shrink”;
  • Polyester cord is a hypoallergenic material;
  • Such carpets do not fade and retain their original color for a long time;
  • Very resistant to external influences.

If you have even minor knitting skills, you can knit a simple rug, and with more advanced knowledge, you can knit embossed rugs.

Knitted carpets not only look elegant, but also, thanks to their textured surface, serve as a good massager.

The disadvantages of these products include the high cost of materials and the specificity of the production process. Therefore, beginner knitters should not take on such a large-scale project.

On the Internet you will find many options for making such rugs using various techniques and patterns.

No special products are required to care for the rugs; they can be easily washed with ordinary powder.

Important! Dry rugs made of polyester cord only in a straightened form.

The choice of a specific knitting option will depend on your idea.

If you are planning to create a large rug with your own hands, remember that it will not lie motionless on linoleum or a painted floor. Therefore, it is worth sewing a special anti-slip backing on the back side.

A cord carpet can be made either without a pattern or with a specific pattern according to patterns - these will be embossed oval carpets.

Round rug

Most versatile for home use.
Looks great in any interior. Made from yarn of different textures and thicknesses. It can be elegant, openwork knitted or solid, tightly knitted. Openwork and “airy” - for covering the dressing table. Voluminous, with a continuous large knit and knitted “cones” - for a nursery or living room, it holds heat well. To create a round fabric from yarn, you need to make the first three air loops, connect the first loop to the last. Then knit a row of six single crochets. In each next row, add new loops evenly, increasing the length of the circular row.

Multicolored grandma's heritage in round shape

As a child, most of you probably had so-called “grandmother’s rugs” in your room. These are multi-colored round floor mats crocheted from strips of fabric.

In order to knit a “grandmother’s” rug from scraps, you will need a No. 10 hook and scraps of fabric. The flaps need to be cut into strips and sewn (or tied) together, rolled into a ball.

We knit in a circle with single crochets. To do this, you need to know the “rule of the circle” developed by knitters: cast on 3 ch. and connect them into a ring. Next, into a ring of 3 vp. knit 6 tbsp. b/n. Now divide the circle into 6 wedges and evenly add 6 tbsp in each row. b/n. on a circular row. In other words, it should look like this: 1 row – 6 tbsp. b/n., 2nd row – 12 tbsp. b/n., 3rd row – 24 tbsp. b/n. etc.

The crochet pattern for a round rug looks like this:

If you knit the product according to this pattern, but only knit single crochets behind the back wall of the loop, then the rug will turn out to be more embossed. The photo below shows how to knit st. b/n. behind the back wall of the loop.

This accessory can be laid on the floor and covered with it on a chair or armchair.

For more details on the work process, watch the video tutorial.

Oval rug

Harmonious for geometrically elongated rooms. Before knitting it, divide the width of the future product in half and subtract it from the length, find the length of the initial chain. For example, if we plan to make a rug measuring 40 cm by 100 cm, then the desired length is 80 cm.

Remember that the cast-on chain will stretch by about 30-40% when knitting.

Next, knit in the round according to the pattern, with gradual addition of loops on the semicircular sides.

A beautiful oval rug can be made from store-bought knitted yarn or from yarn made from discarded knitted clothing.

The first and last loops must be discreetly secured with a thin thread, and to increase strength they must be glued or sewn to a dense base.

The popular model “Miracle of May” is an oval rug made on the basis of three magnificent Patricia Kristoffersen napkins. Stylish and elegant, it fascinates with its beauty and grandeur, good in any color and interior. A video master class on napkins from Patricia Kristoffersen is easy to find on the Internet.

Star with a simple knitting pattern and description

This pentagonal knitted accessory looks original and interesting in the interior of your home. Job description below.

You can knit such a star-shaped rug from any desired material: yarn, bags, scraps.

Knitting starts from the center. You need to dial 5 ch. and close them in a ring.

1 row. 3 v.p. lifting, 2 tbsp. s/n. above the 1st ch. previous row, 2 ch, * 3 tbsp. s/n., 2 v.p. Knit from * to * 5 times to form a pentagon.

2nd row. 3 v.p. lifting, 2 tbsp. s/n. above the 1st ch. previous row, 2 v.p., 3 treble s/n., 1 v.p. and then continue knitting according to the pattern shown in the photo below.

The pentagon is knitted in circular rows to the size you need, and then each “ray” is knitted separately.

If you knit this accessory from soft thick yarn, then it can be used as a bedspread or blanket.

Rectangular crochet rug

It is laconic, its placement at home or in the country will add uniqueness to the home. Convenient as a floor runner in a country-style room or in a nursery. It is extremely easy to knit; even a beginner in needlework can handle it. The basic model is done in single crochets.

We make a chain of air loops the length of the width of the future product. Then we knit a row. Turn it over. We knit the next row in the same way as the previous one. Turn it over again. Repeat until the desired length is achieved.

For decoration, after completing the main fabric, we make tassels from the same yarn. A rectangular carpet made from square motifs is also quite accessible for beginning craftswomen.

How to crochet a rug

To crochet a rug with your own hands, you don’t have to be a top-level craftswoman or know various patterns. A prerequisite is simply the ability to hold the hook in your hands and use a couple of techniques in the process.

There are plenty of options on the Internet for how to knit carpet padding, but for novice needlewomen it is better to stick to working with simple air loops for now. Make a starting loop and thread the hook through it. Using a hook, we pass a thread through it, then one and another - now we have a set of air loops.

The simplest option is to knit a track in the form of a circle. To do this, you need to cast on 2-3 air loops - if it is a thin thread. If you have a thicker thread, then you need a couple more connecting loops.

Round rug

After them comes one connecting loop, with the help of which we get a small circle - the base of the rug. Now we knit one air loop into each warp loop, evenly adding one additional loop where necessary. This way the mat will expand. We knit the rug in the round to the desired size. At the end of the work, iron it on the reverse side so that it does not puff up. To speed up the process, you can use double crochets rather than chain stitches.

Using the same air loops or a double crochet, you can knit a square bedding. To do this, you need to cast a starting row of as many loops as the width you would like the product to be. Now you can knit the required number of straight rows back and forth. A more complex pattern is obtained when knitting such a product from a corner using an arch.

Initial ring

The resulting ring is knitted in the next row. All subsequent rows are knitted as the previous ones.

To knit a square, you can use a ring, but to convert it into a square, you need to perform single crochets on the starting ring - these are the sides of the square, the corner of the square forms 3 air loops. As the rpm increases, multiple air loops must be used at the corners.

Knitting pattern for a square rug

These items will help you create bedding in a matter of hours. Sometimes even the simplest things add zest to the interior of any room. Create with your own hands using a crochet hook! You can decorate your bathroom quite quickly and easily!

Square rug

So seemingly simple, but in the hands of a creative craftswoman it turns into a designer model. The square will fit harmoniously into a bathroom, glassed-in loggia or hallway. This is done in one of two ways:

  1. The first is similar to knitting a rectangular rug, but in compliance with the new proportions characteristic of a square: the length is equal to the width.
  2. The second method is using the granny square technique. We cast on eight chain stitches of the initial chain. We connect it with a half-column into a ring. We knit a row, knitting three double crochets in each corner loop. And so on in every row.

Bright fluffy crocheted bathroom rug

Thanks to the colorful colors, such a rug will always bring positive notes into your life, and the soft texture will give special comfort and pleasure to your feet. The mat consists of polyethylene or nylon threads, which makes it moisture resistant.

So, for knitting you need to prepare polyethylene or nylon threads with hook No. 4.

The size of the finished product will be 40 cm by 65 cm.

Knitting will take place on a fillet mesh, which serves as the basis of the rug, so we’ll do it first. We select the strongest threads and knit them, as shown in diagram 1. Then, when the mesh is ready, we move on to knitting the rug itself. Figure 2 will show you how to do this. You should start from the middle and work towards the edges in circular rows, changing the color of the thread in each row. Each side of the square should be tied with 1 to 3 double crochets. The number of columns depends on the mesh, as well as the thickness of the thread.

The resulting product is immediately ready for use.

Flower

Attractive and airy, the knitted flower is quite complex to make. Only experienced needlewomen can cope with it, since each loop must be made strictly according to the pattern. Skipping at least one of them will ruin the entire drawing.

However, there is an option to make a “flower” in a simple way. We knit five identical circles with double crochets. Then we connect them as follows: we bend each circle on both sides so that a flower with five petals is formed. We sew the “petals” into a “flower”. We decorate the middle with a button or a knitted small circle.

Description of work

You need to start crocheting cord rugs from the center. But for this there is no need to create air loops: we suggest you use another technique. Wrap the edge of the lace around your index and middle fingers twice, then remove them and knit the required number of stitches inside (for rugs like the one in the photo below - about 20 double crochets in the first row).

What to do next:

  • three air loops (VP) for lifting, after which four air loops and a double crochet (DC) are made to the end of the row;
  • three air loops and 50 double crochets;
  • three VP and repeat to the end from three VP, five double crochets with a common top, three VP and one double crochet;
  • three VP and 90 SSN;
  • repeat of five VPs and a single crochet;
  • once again a similar series;
  • air loop and repeat of 4 double crochets, three chain loops, four dc and one single crochet.

Since the pattern has a scalloped outer row, your rug will look like a flower.

Patterns of knitted cord carpets

Any other patterns are knitted similarly, and you can even use patterns to create napkins by changing their parameters.

If you want to knit a semicircular rug according to such patterns, perform the following manipulations:

  • knit the first row with only half the required number of double crochets;
  • unfold the fabric, make three air loops with lifting - and start knitting the second row;
  • do a similar procedure for the remaining rows;
  • the last two rows are made without three air loops.

Thus, the knitting procedure will not proceed in a circle, but by creating straight and return rows with loops.

"Gorgeous" pattern

Let's move on to patterns for knitting cord carpets. To create a patterned raised rug, you can use the Gorgeous pattern pattern.

Thanks to its texture, it will even act as a foot massager, therefore providing a relaxing effect.

Using this pattern, you can knit a carpet with a diameter of 1 meter. For convenience, you can use video instructions, of which there are many on the Internet. Here is one example of such a video of crocheted cord carpets:

Carpet "Grand"

Another popular knitting option is the “Grand” pattern. Such a rug will have a diameter of about 2.3 meters. For knitting you will need about 2200 m of cord. Weight will be from 9 kg.

Carpets in the Grand style can be laid in any living room: they will not only make the interior more comfortable, but will also add new bright colors and expressive patterns to it. Like the previous knitting model, Grand allows you to feel the massage effect on your legs.

Attention! Unlike ready-made rugs woven on looms, hand-woven rugs of this type can be easily folded and hidden in a suitable place.

By the way, schemes of this type can be replaced with any others. You can even choose patterns for crocheting napkins and create new, unique patterns.

We suggest you start with the following options for crocheted cord rug patterns:

Knitted rug in the interior

Will add comfort and grace. For the bedroom - soft, calm colors. In the living room - bright, catchy. Pleasant to the touch textured carpets will find their application in the hallway. Rectangular ones will decorate the interior in an industrial style.

In light colors and round shape - for a room in the Provence style. Soft, colorful, with a fairytale motif, but at the same time environmentally friendly, safe and easy to clean - a rug for the nursery. It can be in the shape of a pencil, an animal, a favorite character, or your child's hobby item, such as a guitar or palette.

It is very easy to create a knitted rug in the shape of an animal: just knit simple figures in the form of elementary geometric shapes and assemble everything into a single composition.

For example, a “bear” rug looks like this: the muzzle is a simple gray circle, the ears are two white-gray semicircles, the nose is a white circle and a black triangle, the cheeks are two pink circles.

How to choose a hook

Each craftswoman has her own priority type of hook; she chooses it at her own discretion: aluminum, plastic, steel (metal), wood, bone or a combination.
However, the thickness of this tool is selected in accordance with the thickness of the yarn used for knitting and the desired knitting density. When choosing, pay attention to how the hook feels in your hand, whether it will create tension in your fingers during prolonged use. Aluminum ones are most in demand by knitters because of their lightness, strength and availability.

Pros and cons of a homemade accessory

The main advantage of a hand-knitted carpet is its low price. If you use a simple pattern, it won't take much time to make. The cost price is equal to the cost of yarn.

The relief path will massage your feet every day, and this will directly affect your performance and give you a boost of energy for the whole day. In addition, it retains heat: it is more pleasant to stand on than on a tiled floor.

Flaws:

  • fragility;
  • large production time costs when choosing a complex pattern;
  • water deformation;
  • long drying.

All types of threads are sensitive to moisture. Knitted items take 1-2 days to dry, may lose their shape, and as a result of constant abrasion in the bathroom, they lose their appearance. To mitigate these shortcomings, you can take knitted thread or garbage bags: such materials are more resistant to external influences.

Mat material

Classic material - thick yarn from camel, sheep, any other wool, ribbon yarn. In accordance with its thickness, hooks are selected to work with numbers from five to eight. For durability and preservation of appearance, the best material is synthetic yarn, acrylic. Lovers of eco-friendly materials will prefer yarn made from natural cotton. It is pleasant to the touch, but does not hold heat well.

Knitting materials

Before you start knitting, you need to decide on the material. It can be:

  • rags cut into strips that were once ordinary clothing;
  • yarn;
  • leg-split;
  • plastic bags.

The material is selected in accordance with the purpose of the track. So, it is better to make a bath mat from soft yarn, a bed path from rags, and at the entrance to the house from bags or twine (it should be easy to clean).

From rags

Any old and unnecessary clothing, including denim, is suitable for implementing a creative idea. The most successful rugs are made from old T-shirts and jeans. The clothes are cut into strips up to 2 cm wide. The length depends on the specific product, but the longer the strip, the more comfortable it will be to knit. One rug with a diameter of 0.5 meters will take at least 4-5 T-shirts. It is better to immediately roll the resulting strips into a ball. We will need:

  • three balls of rags of different colors;
  • the largest hook you can buy in a store (6.5 mm or more);
  • strong threads for fastening individual strips that have strayed from the overall pattern.

Round rugs are knitted in the same way as regular napkins, from threads or yarn; read more about this below. The knitting pattern for rectangular runners is somewhat different. To make the product smoother and more even, individual strips can be sewn in advance.

You can use old nylon tights as an auxiliary material. The resulting rugs are even higher quality and more original.

From yarn

The easiest way to knit a rug is from yarn. To do this, just decide on the color and size of the product, and then buy yarn of the desired shade. Unfortunately, yarn runners are not durable, so they can only be used for beauty - to decorate chairs, to lay in a guest room.

You can also use old yarn from an unraveled sweater. This will not only save you a lot of money, but will also relieve you of regrets about the upcoming throwing away of the old item in the trash.

From twine

Twine is not the most comfortable material for knitting, but it is durable. A product made from twine will be strong and will last for decades. To make the rug more attractive, the prepared twine is wrapped with colored ribbons. You can buy them at any store that sells fabrics. The tape is attached to the twine using glue or simply wrapped around the rope in several layers.

Polyethylene

Not the best, but not the worst material for knitting either. The necessary ropes are cut out of plastic bags, for which they are cut along the gluing line, if any. The resulting strips are twisted into a rope, from which, in fact, the track is knitted.

A polyethylene mat is suitable for laying on the floor in a bath, toilet, or kitchen. It is easy to clean, and those who frequent supermarkets always have plenty of material.

Knitting carpets from cord

Cord carpets are very textured. They add charm to the interior. Two types of cord are used in this work: cotton and polyester. Carpets made from all-natural cotton cord are more environmentally friendly. They turn out to be heavy, due to this they lie stably on the floor.

Rugs made of polyester cord are popular due to the practicality of their material and its hypoallergenicity. They are easy to clean and do not lose their shape and color even with prolonged use. It is better to choose a simpler scheme for them.

Crocheted cord rugs

My name is Lyuba Polevaya, I live in Vologda, I am married, I have two small children. I am currently on maternity leave with my second child.

I love to crochet. Previously, I knitted various things for my daughter, pillows, vases and other items for the home from Ribbon, Spaghetti, Noodles yarn.

Some time ago I discovered such a knitting material as polyester cord with a core. Cord knitting is a very exciting activity that brings pleasure from the work. It’s nice to do something with your own hands for your loved ones, as well as for lovers of beautiful, practical things who value handmade work.

Polyester thread is a synthetic fiber, 100% polyester, with a springy fiber structure, which ensures the ability of products to return to their original state when stretched or compressed.

Despite the fact that it is synthetic, products made from cord look as if they were made from natural raw materials, they are environmentally friendly, durable, moisture-resistant, durable and high-quality, have a beautiful shape, while being soft and pleasant to the touch.

Carpets, rugs, runners, bags, jewelry, baskets and other things can be knitted from polyester cord.

I love crocheting cord rugs. I want to say that such carpets do not deform, do not cause allergies, are not susceptible to mold, and even dust does not collect on them!

They are easy to machine wash at 30 degrees. It needs to be dried flat.

I present to you my works - crocheted cord carpets.

Crocheted cord rug “Magnificent”

The carpet has a relief pattern, which even provides a massage effect for the feet. The diameter of the carpet is 1m.

On my own behalf, I will add that on the Internet you can find video courses and descriptions of knitting this carpet, which is quite popular.

Carpets made from knitted yarn

With a skillful approach, they turn out to be original, with their own individuality. You can buy knitting yarn at the store or make it yourself. To do this, you need to cut old knitted items into strips and knit them into a single thread. Knit according to any pattern you like, suitable for thick yarn.

Rugs that can be crocheted

To decorate a toilet or shower room, it is better to do everything with your own hands, or rather with crochet. Using a fairly simple technique, you can knit the bedding with your own hands:

  • whole - usually these are products that are knitted in the round;
  • using individual multi-colored motifs in the form of diamonds, squares or circles;
  • the use of fillet mesh as the basis of carpet underlay;
  • using a clothesline and a large hook;
  • use old blankets as yarn;
  • from multi-colored plastic and garbage bags.

The simplest type of solid carpet, which is a single piece of fabric, is round or square in shape. However, needlewomen do not sit still and invent semicircular or wavy shapes of rugs that allow you to decorate the shower room in an unusual way.

Knitted products that are made from individual elements, which then need to be sewn, are unusually bright and patterned. The easiest way to work can be to use a square or circle, but some sorceresses work wonders with triangular, hexagonal or wonderful petal motifs. At the end, the product is tied with an openwork edging.

You can also knit an excellent rug on fillet mesh, which you can purchase in a store if you wish or knit again with your own hands. A clothesline bedding is considered quite durable - natural, high quality and practical. If you have a lot of old blankets, don’t rush to throw them away. Use them as carpet yarn. In this case, you are guaranteed a useful and interesting activity.

An unusual option today is to use garbage bags. This material differs from wool products in its waterproof properties. In addition, this material firmly adheres to the tiled floor, which indicates the absence of a sliding effect. It does not deform as a result of exposure to water, does not bend at the edges, and is easy to clean and wash.

Carpet made from old things

The material can be leftover homemade yarn, synthetic tights, old bed linen, rope, strips of polyethylene from garbage bags. When crocheting circles on the floor from rags, you often get quite interesting and original products. They serve perfectly in the country or in a summer house. When knitting, try not to be too colorful to make the rug look stylish.

Exotic crochet Japanese rugs

Although Japanese rugs with their unique pattern look complex, the technique for making them is simple: hollow rings are knitted, which are then connected to each other. The lightest model consists of four rings filled with a fabric of double crochets. Another version of the Japanese rug: we make a knitted ring, a chain of hollow rings connected by a standard weave is sewn to it. A Japanese rug will add ethnic motifs to the interior. The carpet configuration can be changed.

It is difficult to imagine all the variety of knitted rugs. Give free rein to your creative imagination - crochet a rug yourself exactly the way you want it, best suited to the design of your home. An exclusive decorative interior element will bring comfort, coziness and warmth to your home. Don't be afraid that what you knit will look old-fashioned.

We recommend choosing the exact color of the yarn, this will add modernity to knitted interior items. The color of the materials used, in contrast with the interior color scheme, will enliven the room and add a bright personality to it.

However, try to avoid excessive variegation and the melange effect, and maintain clear boundaries between the colors of the yarn used. Apply a smooth transition from one color to another. This will give a good effect. Get inspired and start implementing your “knitted masterpiece”.

The best crochet rug for beginners

Even the most inexperienced knitters will be able to easily cope with making a rug thanks to a master class for beginners. It is recommended to start with a square rug on the floor. In the photo you see an example of such a product.

To knit this pattern you will need thick cotton yarn, which knitters call “spaghetti”.
Choose yarn colors to suit your taste. Step-by-step master class with description:

  1. Cast on a chain of v.p. the length you need.
  2. 1 row. Knit all stitches st. s/n. Turn the knitting to the wrong side.
  3. 2nd row. Knit all stitches st. b/n. under the front wall of the loop. Turn the knitting over to the right side.
  4. 3rd row. Knit st. b/n. under both walls of the loop.
  5. 4 row. Knit the same as 2nd.
  6. 5 row. Columns s/n. knit under the back wall of the loop.
  7. Row 6 and all subsequent rows are knitted in a pattern repeated from the 2nd to the 5th row.
